I wonder how easy it will be to stay in a larger ship's blind spot with a fighter come final build of SC. It's my favorite part of playing ED with a FAS and taking on Python and up.
Angel Rodriguez
when can i convert a retaliator into a comfy house ship to run cargo with
Ryan Turner
Oh shit realistic combat maneuvering without completely arbitrary thruster placement limitations forcing us into an aircraft style flight model, anything but that!
E:D is a "space" game restricted to planetary atmo physics because VISION. Next youre gonna say cap ships should only be able to turn and vary forward thrust along the galactic plane.
John Barnes
When we can actually buy ships with UEC in SC do we know if we will be able to upgrade an existing hull (with its insurance) to a new ship?
Noah Martinez
"Realistic combat maneuvering" would be shooting someone from 100,000km away with a computer targeting system and hoping you saw them first.
Bentley Fisher
Literally never m8, I just traded mine in for Caterpillar, the old layout allowed for it be a space RV. The flyable layout just does not, its too cramped and too full of corridors, and it can be either comfy or cargo, but not both. and no matter what you're not getting the cozy concept art apartment.
Isaiah Scott
is that an Idris?
James Hall
These idiotic points need to stop. ED's flight model is shallow as fuck.
Julian Thompson
No that would be realistic space combat, which is not what we are doing. We are playing a starfighter game in a 6DOF environment. E:D is playing a Starfighter game in a 3DOF environment for no goddamn reason other than the people making the game want it to feel like a flight sim rather than a space sim.
Tyler Moore
Still more fun that SC's. Look, if you're going to pretend that space fighters are viable at all and completely ignore reality, you might as well toy with physics a bit.
John Gomez
We're getting mechs, right?
Zachary Brown
>ED >fun You what. Keep your speed in the blue area and joust, very fun indeed.
Ayden Scott
I think not, because "muh (selective) realism"
Eli Allen
ED is boring as shit, but the combat mechanics aren't why.
Angel Turner
for something like a polaris with zero ass defense, that'd be the achiles heel
the cap ship game could come down more to who has more small ships doing obnoxious shit like that than who has more big ships
Oliver Gray
I had a lot more fun with SC's flight and combat than I did with ED's.
Grayson Mitchell
mechs are not realistic in any world dude, theyre a rule of cool creation but at they end of the day they always present a tall visible profile which is easier to hit than a squat flat tank and additionally introduce as many stability issues as they solve in terms of mobility/terrain tolerance. We will probably see some mech type things in SC, but they will probably be more spidertank-esque then biped.
We will be getting superheavy infantry armor in the vein of planetside's MAX suits, and with the number of comic book nerds on staff I would be amazed if we didn't evenetually see some sort of Ironman suit.
Carter Ramirez
Polaris has two a Dual S4 turrets on its ass a manned top ass turret and a remote bottom assturret. It also has a pair of 360 fire arc missile pods.
Where it actually has the least coverage is directly below.
Xavier Miller
>Not realistic in any world
Subnautica's use of mechs is realistic. Zero gravity construction/work where a ship won't fit but a human isn't big enough.
Eli Brown
>The Freelancer will recieve another pass to bring it up to the current standards, and the variants will be made flight ready as part of this process.
My DUR thanks you.
Melted my Andromeda and grabbed the Cutlass Black and DUR. They smell of much better profit margins.
Alexander Collins
>wait on best ship for three years >special snowflake the entire time because nobody can see it's merits finally on the cusp of having my fat unique autism boat >all these Aegis chads jumping off the failtaliator ship are going to make mine the new bazinga when it comes out REEEEEE NORMIES GET OUT DRAKE IS NOT FOR YOU
Jace Hall
Any evocati members here?
Did they ever get around to testing weapon balance or are they still only doing flight testing?
Isaac Barnes
in the stream weapons were clearly different, they've been slowed down to match the new fighting speeds I assume and have new animations
no idea if they actually touched damage though
Robert Morris
this. blame edgy "i'm in a 10,000 man piracy org" streamers and youtubers promoting drake as the ultimate zero flaws ship company
especially the herald, officially normie tier and being promoted by almost all of those dicks as the ultimate "if i had one ship-" ship
they'll sway away from the caterpillar when they realize it'll need to be played as a small cap ship to survive, and hopefully from the herald when they think it's a combat ship and start missing their sabres and SHs
Bentley Collins
there was a 2.6 ac / flight model stream???
Ethan Torres
>mechs are not realistic in any world Neither are space fighters.
Jacob Ross
Yes? Two in fact. The pre-day stream test and the actual match in the anniversary livestream.
Liam Allen
almost everything relevant to electronic access modes for 2.6 was showcased on the stream as-played by some hip young streamers and a bunch of old faggots from CIG (so not very well, and not showing many of the actual SM features aside from running and gunning)
nothing on netcode improvements, pirate swarm, electronic access UI and QOL improvements, marine armors/customization, or anything PU-related was shown
Xavier Powell
I grabbed it spefically because I think it could be what I wanted the retaliator to be, which is a livable, surivable turretboat with decent cargo capacity. I specifically wanted a little bitty cap ship. I hoped the tally would be that but it just isnt.
They shat all over the tallys cargo and turrets, made it too cramped to be livable.
>Herald as an all rounder. Wut even is this? It's Sam Fishers NSA mobile, things gonna be made of paper and literally unable to do anything but run away if challenged. It's a flying listening post and sometime Black Ops runabout, literally one of the most specialized ships in the game to the point of not actually being good at being a spaceship. I had one for a while but ditched it when they made it symmetrical, generic and tubby.
Jaxson Ramirez
Space are unrealistic in a logistics and biology sense, people are squishy, have low G tolerance and are generally a weak link.
Mechs are tactically unrealistic, they violate the first rule of combat which is don't be visible because visible things die. In the modern world and certainly in a future environment as well If it can be seen it can be killed and the only really good defense is being hard to target.
>not including the official internal rough schedule for 2.6 and beyond in the OP
Andrew Sullivan
Space fighters are unrealistic because they're within hundreds of km of each other, not hundreds of millions of km as would result from actual space combat.
Jaxon Hill
Avenger confirmed for best ship
Michael Lee
>hundreds of millions of km That would be at least twice the distance between Earth and Mars and light would take 5 minutes to get there not really viable
John Flores
honest question, what do you plan to do with any of the avengers? it's a nifty starter ship but i'm not seeing too many people lining up to hire even the best of the best avenger pilots for any role
Gavin Hill
4, Four, ::, IV Cargo units.
Ship is ruined.
Nicholas Morgan
IT IS THE LAW
Gabriel Brooks
>4, Four, ::, IV I still don't understand. Could you parse this out in Morse please?
James Wright
I will uphold the law
Liam Gonzalez
. . . . -
. . - . - - . - . . - . - .
Leo Anderson
Yes. Real-life space combat would be really, really boring, yet suspenseful and terrifying at the same time. That's why "rule of cool" is king in scifi.
Blake Foster
they did a weapon balance pass a few weeks ago. -Increased RoF on non repeaters/gatlings. (which also increased how fast they heat up) -Gatlings all have a crazy spin up time again(listed as a bug) -Reduced range on everything, but neutrons. -Neutrons now feel a bit like they're the energy version of mass drivers. -Fucked around with ammo velocities between sizes so that it's nearly impossible to get a single pip without monoboating. -Said they tweaked missiles but it's hard to tell what is because of changes and what's because ships are flying at half speed.
Hopefully the next push (the big 2.6 update) will have more weapons changes, but they're already jamming so much into it; the 3rd pass of flight changes, Star Marine, Herald, 85X, VG Hoplite, possibly the Caterpillar, it'll take forever to test it all.
Hunter Perez
why cant I upgrade the 85x into a cutlass? I just want muh LTI damn it
Julian Reed
>see enemy spacecraft >fire projectile at superliminal or near-superliminal speeds at where your computer expects enemy spacecraft to be in X time calculated by distance by computer >projectile travels too fast to be detected by any known means Behold, realistic space combat.
Mason Gonzalez
the ccu is bugged. Work around I heard was; change it into a herald first then change herald into ship you want.
Leo Cook
oh sweet, thanks
Owen Barnes
If a projectile travels at near light speed, wouldn't the light it emits travel almost alongside it?
David Robinson
>emphasizing monoboating even more
fug
Thomas Ramirez
>target's navigation computer does constant random slight course deviations so the projectile misses by 100000km
Landon Rodriguez
Pretty much. You want to be close enough to your enemy for them to not have enough time to react, so the closer your projectile is to the speed of light, the farther away you can be. Other than that, it's a game of "fly as unpredictably as possible and hope they miss."
Jack Davis
>computer >random No computer can truly pick numbers randomly. The attacker's computer would then have to try to computer how the defending computer is coming up with numbers.
Matthew Torres
CIG really, really wants people to split up their load outs instead of consolidating fire, but they have no clue how to encourage it this late in development.
Josiah Morgan
I still don't see how it won't be a natural reality in PU when things in PU matter.
Of course you will want all ballistics all the time, but if you are running escort or whatever, you are going to have to carry some sort of infinite ammo weapon, or risk burning out and becoming a flying damage sponge with no shooting capability.
Noah Powell
>Plasma Accelerator's ignore Engineer resistance boosts on top of all those damage buffs If anyone remembers I was the one who was bitching for the PA buff the other day when we were discussing unkillable Corvette and Cutter FUNgineer builds. I am now FULLY erect.
Adam Ward
Aside from that thought I don't really understand the change to Torps. They've kept things straight with any of the really high burst damage hardpoints having a counter so I don't get why they're taking away the primary counter for Torps. If they wanted ECM to not deal with it so consistently then up the cooldown on it.
Jose Howard
>No computer can truly pick numbers randomly. To our knowledge, certain quantum effects are truly random, so numbers based on that would be truly random too. If in the far future it turns out they're not, and as long as pseudo random algorithms aren't instantly decoded, it would be possible to make an algorithm that needs long enough to hack to allow you to traverse a star system or whatever. And even then, a human pilot could introduce more randomness by bumping the joystick sometimes, messing up the decoding process even more.
So basically, there's a reason why battles aren't just light minutes long instakill sniping, and a reason for human pilots. Neat.
Anthony Rivera
when you arent dying constantly from bugs or have the luxury of 15 cry astro stations like in stanton, one of the most developed UEE systems, ammo is going to matter alot more to the point where you may not have the choice but to hybrid or even pure energy build for any kind of serious long term escorts or expeditions
i'm gonna assume that the shitty backwater unclaimed systems dont have those luxuries, while being much more dangerous
Jordan Rivera
I wish Elite was a better game then it is.
Tyler Peterson
Are Sakura Sun Multi-Particle Wave Cannons ammoed or power plant based? I want some NIPPON STRONK weapons in my Super Hornet without having to worry about rearming.
Grayson Robinson
Space combat is basically cruising through space with as many sensors as possible, if you pick up a sizeable threat... you just start moving all over.
If you dont pick it up, youll randomly hear a large explosion and the entire ship just instantly decompresses without warning.
Stealth in which ever way its implemented would be huge.
Jason Butler
what did anime do to you man? shhh, it's ok man it's all over now, the nips can't get to you in here.
Parker James
Guys I thought the retaliator was flyable and buyable? What happened? When will i be allowed to buy it AND fly it? I remember messing about with one in my hangar and in solo PVE
it's flyable and will be buyable again either tomorrow or some time this week when it's aegis' 24 hour sale period
Camden Howard
When the fuck is 2.6 coming out? I just tried running missions today, but the game crashed 3 missions in a row without being able to finish.
Nathaniel Jackson
December 8th... maybe.
Landon Campbell
evocati *might* get it friday or monday. Then likely ptr two weeks after that.
Noah Sanchez
>Powerplay is being updated to let participants to vote for slowing or stopping expansion for systems that aren't in the top 9 slots, from what I gathered if it stops or slows it depends on the ratio of Logistic Consolidation vs. Continued Expansion >This'll allow players to make Powerplay less of a grind race every week to not be in the red, if the CC income/overhead ratio is bad you can just vote for slowing down expansion >Aggressive NPCs of opposing powers will only attack if you're wanted or carrying Powerplay commodities >If you commit an illegal act of assault against a pilot (be it NPC or player) of an opposing power that controls the system, the security rating for you is halved so you don't have a small army of Defence ships sent after you for trying to participant in the parts of Powerplay that require you to break the law >Lots of Engineer Blueprint rebalancing, useless ones being slightly buffed and mandatory ones nerfed >Fixed Weapons buffed, Gimballed nerfed >Hull Reinforcement style items but instead for Module health, called Module Defence Packs >Cannons heavily buffed in every way, both Fixed and Gimballed >Plasma Accelerator's SUPER buffed in every way >Burst Lasers now have the highest DPE but have the highest power requirement The only changes I don't like are Torps only temporarily losing lock and Reboot/Repair restoring half of your shields (Fully kitted Player Cutters are going to be even more ridiculous but at least the PA buff will help). Everything else is pretty damn good.
Zachary Green
They were suppose to already have it.
Jacob Reed
2 weeks.
90 days, tops
Daniel Nguyen
i understand the whole 85x LTI token upgrade loophole, but can i upgrade the 85x into another sale ship, then into another ship that can't be directly upgraded from the 85x while keeping the LTI?
Benjamin Barnes
>Introduce something you can use to buff your module health >Heavily buff the current Module sniper (Cannon) >Turn a previously garbage weapon into the Module sniper to end all Module snipers Aren't they eating their own tail here?
Ayden Gray
Anybody know if there is a website where you can do custom loadout on the ships you have to see what kinda loadout you want?
Adam Morgan
So long as the relevant upgrades exist, yes.
Get ship A with insurance X Get upgrade from A to B, apply. Get upgrade from B to C, apply. Result: Ship C with insurance X.
ok, got it to work by upgrading 85x into a herald (upgrade only works for sale ships apparently) and then that herald upgraded into anything non-sale.
Nolan Bailey
Not really m8. Its ensuring theres a hard counter to protecting your modules.
Elijah Collins
>suppose to That's the key word there, they've been saying "it's almost ready" for over a week now,
Blake Price
so planet landings on dec 15th??
Landon Martinez
Got my Cutelass Ebony now I just need a game package, when are they going on sale?
Jayden Nguyen
No word on 3.0 yet but it will not be December 15th. Unless you mean December 15th, 2017. Then maybe.
Dylan Sullivan
i'm still pretty confident we'll see it by march, almost none of the people working on 3.0 have been working on 2.6, and half of 3.0's features will be ready by the time 2.6 comes out anyway
Jordan Peterson
SC sorry.
Eli Hill
March would put them way behind schedule. I"m thinking January at least PTU.
Christopher Gray
This weekend.
Gabriel Wilson
With the delays we have seen with 2.6 so far even with separate teams I think the delay will be longer the January. March is probably closer to reality but maybe still a bit too optimistic.
Jack Moore
Dec 15th 2018.
Jason Ortiz
They'll hit January even if they have to crunch. Most of the team isn't even working on 2.6
Levi Martin
Aw come on you guys. Most of you have been here long enough to realize that we're not going to see 3.0 till June/July next year.
And that's being optimistic.
Easton Martinez
honestly i think they're going to take advantage of 2.6 being delayed to try and cram as much as possible into the 3 main planets and continue development past the intended 3.0 release criteria that will probably be done by january
I just want something to play off and on for a couple months that isnt the abomination that is 2.5, if 2.6 is pretty alright then I can deal with +1/2 months of refining done to what would have been the original 3.0 dec/jan release
Adam Murphy
March still is a possibility user. As stated they are separate teams working on each patch so I don't think Match is too far fetched. But yeah June is towards the pessimistic side of realism.
Joseph Wilson
We can hope. Did they switch working on the fucked netcode to 3.0 or will that be ironed out by 2.6?
Luke Robinson
Its gonna come down to integration time. Cargo mechanics etc that were previewed for 3.0 looked pretty developed, we know planets are pretty developed. Integrating that into main trunk + testing with new netcode etc.. who knows.
New netcode alone might break everything and set 3.0 back by months.
Leo Ross
I thought netcode was always 3.0.
Ethan Adams
I've been of the understanding that it's always been 2.6 for network. And that's been the most monumental issue that's been pushing everything back.
