Why are people nowadays so much fixated on lap times?

idk, why does the performance of a performance car matter?

because benchracing

not that any neet faggot on Veeky Forums could get within half a minute of the times they shitpost about

because a Tesla will cuck all their favorite cars in 0-60 and the 1/4 mile

>muh vette
>muh $/laptime
>muh faster than a porsche around track X

Why are people nowadays so much fixated on moving goalposts?

>obsessing about another man's track time on a track you'll never drive on

Lel. See ya on the streets, cuck.

the feeling of justification

Because they *seem* like they would give a decent indication of how a vehicle performs all-around including in cornering ability.

The flaws with this include: different drivers (and heck, even the same drivers can vary in ability by the minute) different tires, different temperatures, different weather, and the fact that some tracks are better suited for different types of vehicles (e.g. the nurBurgerRing is great for cars with high top-speeds that can handle well enough and Tsukuba flatters FWD cars so well that Honda has shown off and tested their sporty models there for decades).

If you're going to compare cars at a trak they should be done with the same tires, by the same driver, within an hour or two of each other accompanied by a write-up of how the cars characteristics change as they reach grip limits.

I drove the six-speed Skat Pack version of this last night. Still handles like shit, but man, being able to do burnouts every intersection and go sideways in the corners made up for it. Plenty quick for the streets too.

Nigger mobile

>nowadays

I got into cars around ~2000 and even then people were fixated with laptimes and ETs. It's nothing new.

It's the manufacturers that brought this trend.

Also blame it on the Nurburgeringing.

Lap times do not consider:
- Some cars are trickier than others to control at speed (e.g. Viper). If you (an amateur driver) drove both cars on the same track, you may be able to come closer to the pro driver's time in one car than the other, so the fastest car for you might be different than the fastest car for a pro driver.
- Some cars can only do one lap and they need to cool down (insert Corvette meme here). Other cars can run multiple laps without issues, which make them better choices if you really intend to go to track days.
- Some cars can be enjoyed at normal/semi-legal speeds on public roads, while some cars that are great on a track feel lifeless at slower speeds (e.g. modern Lamborghinis).

>not rwd
>overheats after 3 minutes of spirited driving
>interior of a mitsubishi from the 80s
>overpriced as fuck
>designed like an autistic egg

ah yes, tesla faggots, the same demographic as apple faggots, but they shill cars instead.

Like 1/4 mi times and HP rating, for most people (on Veeky Forums anyways) it's just a form of dick waving...

>being this butthurt

tesla haters are really bad at hiding their insecurity about their cars being much slower and much less impressive to normies than a cuckmobile

Because in reality there's very little that distinguishes different brands of cars from each other, since almost all sports-cars handle great with few flaws, as opposed to the 90's where almost all still had some character to them.

I thought challengers were all automatics?
Or is that chargers?

Insecure faggots who act as 8f they actually own the cars.

Nowadays cars are so close one to another when it comes to lap times so the potential buyer should follow his personal preference.

If car a is faster than b when it comes to their best lap times it doesn't mean that everyone will be able to be faster in car a. Example is Carrera gt which was basically road legal race car with hard to reach performance.

They aren't. It's just bus cucks on Veeky Forums. With exception to that one VW, most manufacturers just make a vehicle and do the run afterwards.

>"Oh, it was faster than X."

Because 78% of Veeky Forums is blatantly retarded and thinks that one guy doing one lap on one day has any relevance at all.

Chargers (4 door) are auto only. Challengers get a 6 speed manual or the 8 speed zf auto.
