Don't go online with it yet.
Check if its 11.0 firmware. If it is, proceed.
Manually configure the internet connection settings with 107.211.140.065 for both DNS settings.
Then try to use browserhax to get menuhax.
If that works then you're set for slowhax when that arrives. If it doesn't work then still don't update, you can use a game card exploit instead.

I have came across the following instructions while in the process of install al9h: "Clear Home Menu’s extdata by navigating to the following folder on your SD card: /Nintendo 3DS/(32 Character ID)/(32 Character ID)/extdata/00000000/"
I've noticed that there are 3 folders that meet this criteria
The first folder I see only has extdata in it.
The second one has backup, dbs, extdata, and title in it.
The third one has dbs, extdata, title, and the 00000000 folder in it is empty.
Which one is the homemenu extdata?

For your .3ds games, use the Gateway menu to mount the game of your choice then use JKSV to export the save. For your .cia games, launch JKSV then use the .cia list to export the save.
To get them onto your other 3ds, find the .cia in JKSV's list and choose the import option instead.
