Best NA 4 cylinder?

Any 4 cylinder, NA only. Boxer, Inline, V, ect.

>pic related
>Toyota 4A-GE, reliable and highly tuneable

S14B25

first post best post.

The 4afe is a better engine
This is trash

i do not disagree

...

Of all time? The Offy. Dominated American open wheel racing for over three decades. Won the Indy 27 times between 1935 and 1970, of which 1950 to 1960 was a clean streak including the other two podium positions.

>one of the most iconic engines ever
>trash
Found the weeb

Also output of 2 to 3 hp/cube. More than half a century ago.

H22A

>NA

This thing had a magnificent engine, too. Love frenchboxes.

...

OP asked for N/A engines you inbred fuckwit, this one is turbocharged as you can see in the picture

>weeb faggot thinks his hachi-roku engine is better than one of the most iconic 4 cylinder motorsport engines of all time

Ford 1600 cosworth

Do anodized fittings make your car faster?

enjoy your poor handling, high-maintenance large engine furfag

I have 4 cars and a truck and all of them are 4 cylinders

I wouldn't mind an S14 powered lawn mower desu fampai

Any of them make over 200hp without the use of forced induction?

It would never run tho...

No, very few production engines do that.
Can you name me some stock non-fi 4 cylinders that make over 200hp?
I know we got the S2000, what else?
Stock, not modified by the consumer or a tuner.

The K20A, H22A, S14, whatever is in the Porsche 968

The 4a-he is overhyped weeb trash.
Kys op.

Best 4cyl?
For NA my money's on the K24, for FI probably the 4g63

The problem with the 4AFE is despite being one of the most reliable engines ever made, it's tuning capabilities are very very limited.

I had that engine in my 1992 Celica STX.

Would choose the 4AGE any day. I respect the 4AFE, the engineering skills needed to make an engine that reliable are just amazing.

My brother bought the slightly more powerful 5sfe Widebody Celica GTS. That's a great 4 cyl engine too.

BTFO by

With enough changes it could. Sure it'd have to be larger, but throw in a worm gear and you've got the 90 degree turn required to make the blade spin. Sure it'd be inefficient, but it would work.

Qr25de in the 2010 sentra se r spec v makes 200hp and 180lb ft of torque stock. Not sure if that's bhp or whp

BTFO how?
Like I said, very few production engines.

Its a nissan... it would never run

Very few production engines are exceptionally good, you are right.
I don't see why you are calling those engines lawn mower engines, if you yourself have 4 cars with 4 bangers and they are all worse than the ones you are insulting.

>I don't see why you are calling those engines lawn mower engines,

Asserting their perceived superiority on this anonymous image board. Do you not know how this works?

>I don't see why you are calling those engines lawn mower engines, if you yourself have 4 cars with 4 bangers and they are all worse than the ones you are insulting.
Because I recognize that they are shit, just because I own them doesn't mean I prefer them, they are just very practical and economical, that's all they have going fur them.
I'm not one to fall fur cognitive dissonance and think that just because I own something it's better than another thing.

Except you bought 4 despite the only reason being they're practical.

There is nothing practical about four cars. Get your head out of your ass

Why buy 5 cars that you dislike? Do you hate yourself?

only because no headgaskets to blow
its pretty lightweight too
but most were NOT n/a

S14 is a BMW engine

>BMW engine
It would never run

it will but not for free.
for a 2.5 liter s14 done right you're looking at 10-15k.

I love the miata, it handles great and is RWD, good styling etc
I buy a vehicle for a purpose, my toyota pickup is a 22r and a great truck, my friend gave it to me, it's extremely reliable and durable, gets decent enough fuel milage, like I said, 4 cylinders are extremely practical engines.

My volvo is a 4 cyl which I'm tossing in the trash soon, that car has no business with an 80hp 4cyl being 3000lbs, it's silly slow.

The festiva is also getting the engine removed once the volvo is done, I'm thinking VR6 or K20/24 to replace the mazda B3

>buys weaboo rice burner thrash that he hates himself
>tries to justify it

hes a furfag you cant expect rational thought

>Think power is more important than reliability
Wew

I bought this volvo recently to get away from the jap shit, desu the toyota was given to me fur free so why would I turn it down?
I'm probably buying a vw mk2 as my next project.

You bough an 80hp Volvo to get away from jap shit?
Well it isn't Japanese, you got that right, but did you really have to buy a shitbox that accelerates to 60mph in 20 seconds because of that?

I bought the car because I have a 5.3 chevy motor sitting in my garage that I wanted to put in something, the car was 400 dollars and RWD with a huge engine bay, it's only makes sense.

1zz-fe is better.

I think that temptations are destroying you. Well at least put the 5.3 in the Volvo now that you have it. It should turn out sick.

Black top beams.

I originally bought the 5.3 fur my toyota truck but it would have cost me too much to get new axles and wheels fur the truck so I just said fuck it and bought this car to put it in instead.
2wd swaps are much easier and cheaper than 4wd swaps, the whole thing was only supposed to cost 2-3k, which will still be within budget even after buying an entire new car to put it in.

what car is this in? such a big engine bay

That's an average sized engine bay...

Not sure My guess is a AE86 or Celica or corolla

no way most cars have all sorts of shit like braces and stuff in the way. thats like a LTD sized engine bay

read the filename

No.

lolno

its in a Carina which is basically a Celica with more doors

sorry i don't have a toyota fetish. but i thought those were solid rear axle? i dont see the potential

well this moved into meme b8 territory so I should be done here but whatever

1. you can plainly see it has rear camber that car isnt solid axle
2. some models had IRS from the factory
3. theres nothing wrong with solid axle anyway

>Bmw reliability meme
Try harder

>SOHC

>low center of gravity

>revs easily

m42b18

haha just kidding

Took u fags long

The Iron Duke will outlive all of these engines

You've shown that you're completely incapable of objective thought by saying that. It's common knowledge to anyone who is into cars that engines from the pre-90s era of BMW are almost without exception impressively durable and long lasting.

M42 a shit

t. owner of a dead turbo M42 which was replaced by superior M20.

Are you retarded? Like honestly?

>m43tüb19
>bearings ate themselves right before 200k km
>timing chain had to be replaced
>blown headgasket
>warped head

the m42/m43 was literally the worst engines BMW ever produced.

Not N/A but idgaf. This 1.5L 4 cyl made 1500 hp in the 80's. The fucking 80's. I forgot the name of it but it was used in F1.
inb4
>muh hp per liter

>could barely finish a couple laps
>even detuned it rarely finished a race
Bmw a shit

t. buzzkill killington

Damn you

>not the red top 2L
Go away

2L, 220hp, 8400rpm, chain driven, extremely reliable. Can make nearly 300hp na with a k24 block and a hondadata k-pro

>only makes power from 8000 to 8400 rpm

Between 5800 and 9000 you mean

>rev to 8401 and the engine explodes

Honda engines usually make power about 100 rpm over redline.

>they don't really make power

>Timing belt
>Reliable
No

Never heard of it.

>non interference
>unreliable
No

Ford's DOHC is a fucking amazing engine.
It's tough as fucking hell, it can take power like a motherfucker and it revs to 7.5k from factory
it's also simple enough that it's tunable and is cheap as fuck out of old fords

you mean the YB? its turbo....
does not count mate

...

One of the best sounding, at least.

the DOHC was a whole new block made by Ford when the YB was a DOHC conversion of the Pinto by cosworth
learn your basics

Dumb Americans. K20A2 a shit. Red top K20A1 a best

>i offended a ford boy now he is mad

>offended
where the fuck do you get that from
just because I called you fag doesnt mean I'm offended

KA24 :3c

K20 or K24? From my understanding, a K20 makes for a better honda but a K24 makes for a better car. (I'm deciding on a 8th or 9th SI right now)

K20A makes like 220hp and the K20A2 makes a flat 200.

K24A2 only makes 200 and revs to 7k instead of the 8k limit the K20 has.

Can confirm, M43 is really shit. Is there a single worse 1.6 engine than that pile of steaming horseshit?

>wide angle valves
>poor flowing head
>weak block

Was an okay cheap engine for its time. Also sounds good. Okay for nostalgia fun cars but modern engines totally rekt it.

-4ag owner

of the engines posted so far i would say the top 3 are
2ZZ
the porsche 944/968 with the good 16v head
not all of these were made equally
and the S14B25

Negative. The M40 is far inferior to the M42/3
