What can you tell me about the history of Anime?

What can you tell me about the history of Anime?

...

From Lain (1998) To NHK (2006) was best era of anime.

>the best era of anime was when I was a teenager
Gee what a coincidence.

Colors looked dull when they changed to using computers instead of manually painting cells around 2002. Now it looks fine.

>not Angel Cop through Pokemon

>Now it looks fine
I watched half of Evangelion 3.0 a few months back and the fucking CG3D ruined everything I enjoyed about the aesthetics of Evangelion. You're full of shit.

It's Japanese propaganda.

>they changed the aesthetics, now it's shit
Cry more.

I still enjoy Evangelion, it's just that you're wrong--it doesn't look 'fine' nowadays, it still looks like shit in 6/10 cases at least.

It was a mistake.

WAKE ME UP INSIDE

Eva's pinnacle was EoE and you cannot change my mind about this.
Rebuilds were just Anno realizing he could suck every last drop of money out of stupid fans and were literally unnecessary to the story.

Dunno but pic related is Veeky Forums the show

One day the guy who did Astroboy was like, man Disney cartoons are pretty baller, I wanna do that.
And then he got rich and drew degenerate furry porn in private.

How so? What is it promoting?

I love these.

Anime is animated form of Manga.

Modern Manga in itself is influenced by western comics.

Before that, Manga stemmed from the Chinese art of "Manhua." in the 1700s. Hence the goddamned name. "Manhua" entails the drawing of non-serious, whimsical shit, that pokes fun at life which artists often use plainly for shallow comedy but at times, also social commentary.

Pic related, a 19th Century example of a Manhua mocking Christianity ("Jesus" sounds like "roast pig" in Cantonese) and the fact that missionaries are just horny white & black men for all their prattle about decency and virtue.

Here's a Japanese example.

>1940
All anime and manga are propaganda, much like their western equivalents at the time
>1950
Japan is dirt poor. Most manga is published in shitty little badly printed comic strips. Some of it is shocking with its content, but it is all lost to time because they were basically published on rags in low numbers with a shitton of competition. The industry is absolutely cut throat and careers are made and destroyed in the blink of an eye. Its in this environment that the old masters learned how to draw. At this point most mangaka were total amatuers that didnt know how to draw and had to learn by copying each other.
>1960s
The age of Tezuka, and other greats like Leji & Ishinomori that would go on to change anime forever in the 70s. Manga artists start to learn a great deal from Disney. Japanese art and the stories contained within goes from "kinda shit" to "surprisingly good" virtually overnight
>1970s
Go Nagai singlehandedly changes anime and manga forever by introducing extreme violence and sexuality. He creates many genres like ecchi, mecha, magical girl, etc while revolutionizing the horror genre. Hes basically the main reason why asian cartoons and western cartoon are different. Mecha shows dominate the decade because now the Japanese have figured out how to fund anime - sweet. Sweet merchandise
>1980s
The golden age. Many new genres are explored and Japans economy is at its greatest height. Syd Mead artbooks and Star Wars concept art books are published in japan. Everyone and their mother learns how to draw mechanical things from these best sellers. Therefore, sci fi dominates the decade. Gundam brings in more mature stories, which is eagerly seized upon to move anime away from 'enemy of the week' nonplots. (Manga had never had this issue, ever since Tezuka). The OVA format is used to dodge censorship and pour ridiculous amounts of money into anime budgets. 4chans favorite generation of artists comes from this environment, towards the end of the decade(cont.)

japanese rape squads return from the war with a host of new fetishes

In the 80s, the shonen genre is revolutionized by Fist of the North Star. The adult Goku era of Dragonball known in the west as DBZ begins the very same year Fist of the North Star ends. Coincidence? Fuck no. Lots of manga and anime feature characters based on older 70s ones like Ryo Asuka and Captain Harlock. This the infancy of japans obsession with copying tropes and cliches.
>1990
Japan's economy crashes and burns, never to recover. Westerners stop seeing Japan as a rival for the future. Anime is now drawn with simpler lines, less shading, less movement to conserve budget. The End Times begins
>1995
Anno combines Ultraman, Gundam, & Devilman tropes to creat Neon Genesis Evangellion. The show 'saves' anime by introducing a new way to sell merchandise: Waifus. This is not what anno intended and ruins anime forever, eventually leading to /a/s shit taste and general ignorance of anything older than NGE that isnt DBZ or Akira. Dumbass fanboys dont Understand the ending, so against his will Anno creates a new ending at the behest of Gainax's suit and tie guys. Its literally a lazy copy of Ideon and Devilmans endings (right down to copying the final panel of Devilman, but with Akira and Ryo replaced by Shinji and Asuka) but it convinces otaku plebians like this guy who cant do basic research. Anno despises every second of working on EoE.
Japan becomes popular in the English speaking world (Spanish, Italian, and French speakers have been weebs since like 1970, (Mazinger Z is like Scooby Doo level classic in mexico). The Japanese cant cope with western pricing not being a massive rip off so they shoot this amazing opportunity in the foot, over and over and over

continued
>2000
The Dark Age. Good anime is still made but few and far in between. Everything is a rip off of a rip off of a rip off of a rip off of a copy. Progress slows. Eye Searing CG is used to save money. Towards the end of the decade moe based merchandise saves the industry from destruction, BUT AT WHAT COST??
>2010
Japan finally gives up on forcing westerners to pay Japanese prices. Gets smarter about licensing, no more horrible fuck ups like the Macross Harmony Gold Robotech fiasco. A ray of hope begins to shine as shows based on 80s properties like Jojo and Berserk soar In (western) popularity, beating out the latest trend shows like ReZero on Crunchyroll popularity on the reg, badly made shonen continues to dominate everything else however. Too many moe/ecchi/harem/loli shows are made for the sake of merch even still. But its died down a good deal.

Btw if anyone wants to know more ask /m/, some of the namefags there are actually pretty chill and really know their shit, like Dorkly and that Arab dude that made that star wars anime clip that went viral

>Not 1970 -1991
Literally anyone in japan is asked this question, this is their answer. Its a fact of life there. Only here are people obsessed with 90s shit. Also only here would people be dumb enough to cry 'nostalgiafag' over 70s & 80s shit thst just got English translated like a five years ago

Does Legend of the Galactic Heroes fall into that category?

>LOGH
>Started in the 80s
>Kept that same consistent 80s artstyle through the 90s
I dont see your point user. Berserk has all the hallmarks of edgy 80s manga even though 90℅ was published after the 80s.
Besides! Logh was an ova and therefore could keep that level of budget. While tv anime could not.

I mean dont get me wrong here user, there was tons of great 90s shit. Slayers, Shin Getter robo, Lain, etc all are favorites.
But it doesnt hold a candle to Cobra, Dirty Pair, or Yamato

So Veeky Forums, whats you're favorite pre-1991 anime?

VOTOMS. Its like every awesome Sci Fi movie, war movie, post apocalyptic movie, and Rambo movie thrown in a blender of PTSD and trope breaking goodness.
It was also the inspiration for the mecha designs in Heavy Gear RPG, which went on to influence most western mecha designs. You might as well say Titanfall is a Votoms game. The gameplay matches Chirico's fighting style almost exactly. Thats the thing, when dumb weebs Bitch about western mecha designs they dont realize theres a strong Japanese influence there as well. Murricans just like Votoms & Dougrams 'realism' over say, Gundam.

You posted it.
Love me some Macross.

YOU WA SHOCK

Lol 70s look so European, maybe that's why I've always like them more

Hokuto No ken, then Lady Oscar.

...

Yep you posted it.

I recognize one of those 80's ones. Anyone care to tell me which series the girl that's fifth from the left on the 80s line is from?

Ususei Yatsura

*Urusei
Im terrible at spelling Japanese stuff

Moe is not Veeky Forums

You can see Disney influences in 1920s-30s anime, Tezuka was merely the best imitator.

How do I get into anime? I have wanted to but I'm scared I'm going to become a weeb, develop a 2D waifu, and become a NEET. I'm doing okay in my life atm, I don't want to throw it all away in exchange for a waifu body pillow.

I don't want to catch autism.

To be fair they only say that because they're normies or manchildren who just want to relive their childhoods and lost the imagination and innocence to appreciate childish shit in this day and age. It's no different from the Frenchmen who miss Grendizer and now Saint Seiya.

Well that's easy, just watch anime featuring only guys and the occasional boring female lead that's only there for self-insertion.

Well if you lived in "Free" East Asia and Non-Commie Southeast Asia, there will be cunts who will be nostalgiafag over 80's Anime.

Shit was Afternoon Cartoons here.

In fact, here in the Philippines, we can tell if you're a rich kid if your "muh nostalgia" involved Disney Channel/Nickelodeon since you most likely had cable and did not watch local channels which aired Anime.

>how to become the opposite side of the obnoxious, retarded, tasteless coin.txt

Yeah man, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Shampoo, list goes on...

>Cowboy Bebop
What? No, Faye and Ed are everyone's waifus, they'll pull you in like succubi.

>Samurai Champloo
It's got Fuu, though you're much less at risk of buying her bodypillow.

But no, I was talking about stuff like Kaiji or Baki on one side and Touken Ranbu or Utapri on the other. Sports anime usually has terrible female characters too so it should be quite safe.

>Go Nagai singlehandedly changes anime and manga forever by introducing extreme violence and sexuality. He creates many genres like ecchi, mecha, magical girl, etc while revolutionizing the horror genre. Hes basically the main reason why asian cartoons and western cartoon are different.

It was bad the way it was before, but I never heard so much bullshit in one single sentence before. Unless you're trolling, which I doubt it.

Please, don't listen to this guy, he's full of shit.

What would you expect from someone who comes from a board dedicated to literally the worst fiction genre to ever exist in any medium?
