Maybe not Grisaia 2 or Rewrite but everything else yeah pretty much
Nathaniel Murphy
Nobody wanted anything on that list, anyway. They are all kusoge. Read a real kamige like Fata Morgana.

The only shit on that list are Ryuukishi's parts of Rewrite.

Also you have to read through and understand all the works of at least Kant, Schopenhauer, Nietsche, Wittgenstein, Einstein, Bohr, Nabokov, Asimov, Dostojevsky, Tolstoy and all the European National Epics.

J.Q.V could theoretically work in English if it had a good translator. Saihate no Ima is literally untranslatable.

We already know that R07 is the ultimate hack but who is the 2nd? Nasu? Urobuchi?
Samuel Long
>wanting to read Romeo
Austin Green
>takahiro Who? Nasu.
While Urobuchi's anime projects post-Madoka do leave a lot to be desired, especially when Urobuchi's involvement is left ambiguous, his visual novels are still very good.
Christopher Brooks
Urobuchi.
While Nasu's projects post-CCC do leave a lot to be desired, especially when his involvement is second to Sakurai, his visual novels are still very good.

Y-yeah, it was all Takahiro's fault. Our lord and savior Romeo Tanaka couldn't possibly write something that isn't good...
Cameron Ward
The writing was good, the setting and everything else was controlled by Takahiro to be bland (he actually told Romeo what kind of characters to write) which is why it was disappointing.
Matthew Davis
Is it true what they say? Romeo's prose is on par with Nabokov?
Andrew Scott
But that's consistent with most Romeo works. His prose is his only standout asset, setting/plot/characters are typically bland.
Carter Morgan
>setting/plot/characters are typically bland. Uh... no.
Cameron Gray
Uh... yes. Cross Channel is hugely repetitive with way too much text repeated for a linear visual novel, the comedy is obnoxious in that it's largely jokes about the main character sexually assaulting the harem cast, and the art is pretty shitty too.
Jack Flores
So this is surface level reading...
Ayden Nelson
Moege and Charage is the only reason to play VNs
Nicholas Edwards
Hey, I remember those words. I wrote that! Why are you quoting me but passing it off as your own observations?
I mean you're not wrong...
Nolan Roberts
Are there any opinions here which aren't second-hand?
Julian Foster
There are a couple good scenes but they're outnumbered by unfunny or boring scenes 3:1. The most egregious example is a really fucking great scene where the MC drops the comedic facade and goes full sadist against one of the female cast in a scene that's legitimately quite haunting without being particularly sexual or gruesome in nature, but then immediately after it they have a run of the mill H-scene where she falls in love with him (despite being the only female cast member with the common sense to dislike him before that point).
It's probably worth reading, but unless you're a Romeodrone, it's going to be a decent VN with some awful pacing and questionable humour.
Connor Allen
>thinking kiri fell in love with taichi So this is surface level reading...
Hunter Garcia
Diving however deep won't make the story or setting any better, the mechanics any less repetitive or the humor any funnier.

Someone should pay Tyrone to read out this:
>I read the entirety of Umineko as it came out and I feel like I'm being generous when I give it a 4/10. It's a convoluted mess that reads like it was written by a 12 year old. The Japanese fanbase refuses to so much as give Ryuukishi the time of the day nowadays for good reason. Honestly, I find the extent to which the western fanbase is obsessed with Umineko to this day to be frightening in a sense. I have no idea how you guys can drone on about it day after day nearly six years after the final episode was released; Ryuukishi is a hack who has no idea how to actually tell a story that does anything except continually bait the reader with red herrings and empty promises of greater themes. He's been like this since Higurashi and will never improve, either on a technical level or as a storyteller in general. Like I said, almost no Japanese fan cares about Ryuukishi nowadays, and it's more than people just being pissed off about episode 8 of Umineko (people were pissed off about Minagoroshi and Matsuribayashi long before then, anyway). It's because they've had enough exposure to him to see through his tricks and stop falling for his brand of spectacle and sophistry. And yes, his terrible, childish text is part of the problem too - there are parts of Higurashi that have such embarrassingly poor writing that they're used as copypasta on 2ch.
Isaac Lee
>not the Ikikoi pasta
Adam Myers
That reads like Moogy's elegant but poignant prose.
Sebastian Wilson
Nice try, but our guy Conjueror likes Umineko even better than some of Shakespeare's works.
>literally all non arguments Why do people take this guy seriously again?
Asher Jenkins
He does have a point though.
Josiah Hill
>that it's true. except it's objectively false. i'm guessing whoever made that statement (possibly you) doesn't actually know what Minimalism means in composition. it's easy to look at the word "Minimalism" and instantly think it means "economy of material" but it isn't the case.
Minimalism is all about subtle changes over time--usually a long period of time throughout one composition (20+ minutes at least is the typical trend). typically you start off a composition with a motif, and then you repeat it, over and over again, with subtle changes/variations throughout. you do this via dynamics, polyrythms, or phrasing. take this piece by Steve Reich for example:
the latter is more "sacred minimalism," which is basically defined as a more neo-baroque, neo-renaissance, hybrid modern polystylism. hard-line minimalism, though, uses basic tonal-blocks rarely stepping out of the basic diatonic system (ie no applied chords and very little chromaticism) and focuses primarily on dynamics and rhythm more than melody, harmony, orchestration or form.
a decent example of Minimalism in visual novels is perhaps Umemoto's work on Yu-no and Eve Burst Error:
though arguably the compositions are a bit too short and it's lacking in subtlety. some of Fata Morgana's tracks also go into brief glimpses of miniamlism, but then again that OST is also packed with inspirations from renaissance-era compositions (Franco-Flemish school), baroque, romanticism, and dodecaphony. Tsukihime's OST doesn't really have shades of minimalism. true, it's extremely repetitive, but it offers little changes/variations throughout its works. not too mention the comps are too short anyway.
i would probably argue that, overall, the VN format doesn't lend itself very well to minimalism.
Leo Morris
Wtf? Why is there no VN reading e-sports scene?
Bentley Robinson
Nah, he really doesn't. He only makes vague statements like "Ryukishi writes like a 12 year old" without saying specific examples. He only criticizes the western fanbase for obsessing about a series he can't see the appeal of. Then he just goes on a long rant about how the japanese hated it, so it must be bad, but that isn't an argument as well. Many great works were poorly received upon initial release. Authors like Melville and Kafka died completely unrecognized. It's one thing if Moogy didn't like Umineko, but I think his irrational hatred of umineko is because he is trying to be a hipster. He is mad that a lot of people like something he doesn't like, which I kind of understand, but I really think he needs to move on desu
Austin Watson
Why the FUCK did you respond seriously to my shitpost?
Lucas Powell
>just a prank bro even if it was just a prank, i got to talk about compositions so it's a win for me anyway.

それら全て捌くことを語るのは、傘を持たずに雨の中に飛び出し、全ての雨粒を手で払おうと言い出す無謀に等しい。 It could be said that to endure all those attacks was equal in recklessness to claiming that one could leap about in the rain with no umbrella and knock aside every last raindrop."
Face it, R07 is a hack.

William Gutierrez
In opposition to fights in Dies Irae that drag for hours (and I enjoy as hell), r07 style is to the point and won't waste time with the fights... because he doesn't need to. Take Rose Guns Days, he didn't even bother to prose the fights because they are a fucking minigame which was more effective. All that's left to the narration is keeping the flow of the action along the plot, not the action itself. It clearly tells about how many enemies you're fighting, the style and difficulty of the fight itself.
