Serious question: does anybody know where the name Scat Pack comes from? As I understand it, the ''-at Pack'' comes from a play on the word ''Rat Pack'', a group of actors including Humphrey Bogart and Frank Sinatra. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rat_Pack

Mopar parts guy here. In the 60s and 70s a car club called the scat pack sent out a postcard/catalog of the best mopar performance parts for your mopar muscle car. I think the name is just a play on rat pack.

Scat was just another synonym for scram or go away. i.e. "go on, scat!" So what better name for a bunch of car guys to play on the "rat pack" term than to add in a word that also meant "to haul ass away from"

Scat was a usable daily word before internet porn and cdrom porn in the 1980's onwards changed the word "scat" to be dominated by the fetishes of anal sex, touching poop, smearing poop around (alphonse masturbation technique). Scat as a verb was a command to go away fast similar to "shoo" which had less urgency.
There was also an american cartoon anthology series in the 70's mostly sponsored by cereal and toy companies. It would have short cartoon segments 3 to 5 minutes long based upon a specific protagonist. Sugar Bear. Quick Draw McGraw. Scat Cat. Etcetera.
That Scat Cat alleycat character was probably based upon the cat from the Disney movie The Aristocats. One of the jazz playing cats was voiced by Scatman Crothers. Thus, that cat character came to be colloquially known as Scat Cat by fans of the movie.
Some people in the american South still use the word Scat in its old lexicon. But other than them, scat seems to refer more to those people who have the anal and poop smearing and urine-drinking fetish. It's why some people DELIBERATELY have poopy underwear to indulge their fetish (and in exhibitionism force it upon others by sitting in chairs and benches).
