So...

So, I'm planning to make a a shitty Tumblr for the sole purpose of dumping my excess amount of porn and littering it with ads for money. How viable is this?

Tumblr doesn't have a demonetization functionality for copyrighted material such as the one that Youtube has?

i think tumblr doesnt let you monetize like that anymore.
nothing stops you from buying a domain, and a hosting plan that allows adult content.
it is viable and thousands of people are doing it. i will mention simply dumping pics on your server will not earn you any money. you need a marketing strategy to drive traffic to your domain.

would randomly spamming a site with those links work?

No one has ever thought of giving away free porn and making money off advertising.

couldn't the owners of the porn sue you?

that is copyright infringement since you would not be giving royalties to the creators of the pornographic material. unless it is just all completely amateur shit and no one ever pursues you to remove it.

Sauce on pic

Bump

Wouldn't that only result in the specific file getting removed?

Or they'd close the entire blog?

Its more of they could sue you for any profits made from having their content on your site + legal fees

What if I operate the whole thing with Tor and proxies/VPNs?
Would it even be possible?

The only way to catch me would be to trace the money from the ad network, then get PayPal (or whatever else I'd use) to tell them my name.
And even after all that, would they be able to sue me if I'm in a different continent?
How likely would that even be for one of a million shitty tumblr blogs that share some individual pictures (not even whole sets) and some gifs/webms?

I didnt say it was likely, just that it could happen.

Unless youre getting paid in bitcoin, youre traceable. And itd depend on which country vs which country.

Then I think the risk could be worth it, depending on the amount of money made o course.

Is it possible to get paid on an anonymous PayPal account, use that to buy bicoins, tumble them, and get them on a clean paypal/bank account?
I imagine it'd be limited to a relatively small amount of money (because of the anonymous PP account), but I can live with that until the unlikely event where I made more money than that.

If you're going full blackhat there are more profitable ventures for you

Such as? (serious question)

Also, I don't think this is such a BH thing to do. It's just some extra paranoia for a very light crime (since copyright infringment of small parts of commercial products is the only illegal thing here).

A black hat activity would include all this protection, plus an actual black hat crime.

But I'm seriously interested in what other lucrative black hat activities are possible in 2016.

Just design a porn search engine.

Yeah, there are a lot out there, but I've yet to encounter the best one because they always lack something.

you are over thinking this so much

1) set up your adult site
2) drive traffic
3) get money from your advertiser
it's that easy and thousands of people are following this simple formula.

you dont get sued. you get a dmca notice. the dmca comes in your email and has a link to the picture they want taken down. you take it down. that's it. no letters from lawyers, no phone calls, just 1 email. comply and nothing bad happens.

do not use tor. forget about bitcoins. nobody but .01% of people use those. you would be needlessly shooting yourself in the foot doing that stuff. people smart enough to use those are smart enough not to click your cpa ads. and forget about tumblr unless you're using it to send traffic to a domain registered to you.

I meant putting it on Tumblr (or whatever clearnet blog), and accessing it through Tor as a proxy.
Didn't mean to have a porn blog on a .onion domain obviously.

The primary way of monetizing Tumblr and Instagram are email lists, affiliate marketing and advertising.

Yes, it's viable, but you'd need a lot more regular content than just your excess porn, and like any site/blog/online venture the content is but a small part of the income.

Also for the people suggesting you can be sued; it mostly depends where you are but it's very unlikely unless you're making huge profit.

A far more likely outcome is that tumblr/any-non-hosted-third-party-platform will simply ban you

Using tumblr for porn has the benefit of instant accessibility and lower barrier to audience, but after a few weeks or several thousand subscribers you'd be far better off with your own site.
