The bud/bill crash was mainly caused by having more than 8 slots to trade in, coupled with the SCM prices making it more cost effective to buy earbuds with your real money than keys, and then sell the buds for keys. Once you could actually put 200 keys in a trade the only point to buds that remained was storing LAAARGE amounts of keys in pure form, and as soon as that started going off the rails all of the big traders abandoned them as a currency.
Unless something replaces the Mann Co Crate Key as primary currency the only thing its safe to hold your money in is Mann Co Crate Keys; even its designation as prime currency cannot make it survive the death of the game however. When TF3 comes out, I'm sorry, but I'm leaving the tf2 market behind, and when that happens I'll be keeping my unusual collection.
Wait a month for the unusualifer hype to die off.
