Now that I think of it, I don't actually like Chara. I like what Chara does. It's hard to like someone who has no defined characteristics outside of being a soulless demon/pretty shit child. But they're responsible for setting events in motion, so I kinda have to respect them. Also the genocide ending is fantastic

He's a true enigma, the only character who never fully opens up to you no matter what you do. He's always got a secret up his sleeve, and only when you push him to his very limits does he start to unleash his true potential. The most he ever does is hint at what he really knows - timelines, anomalies, maybe even a scant memory of the previous royal scientist, and it's all hidden behind layers of jokes and half-truths. All we know that is real is what we find in his secret lab, and even then the descriptions are vague at best. What is that machine? Who should he not forget? Who are the smiling people? Only Sans knows, and nobody else.

Toby's a fucking hack and probably left in a lot of shit to expand upon but he doesn't want to do anything with Undertale anymore so it's all half-finished bullshit

Nah, it's pretty dumb. I play a video game, I experience what the player does, if the player provides feedback that's fine, if they don't that's fine too.

Frisk is a blank slate. Literally as generic as possible to the point where it actually becomes unique. Chara has a bit more lore, not necessarily character, and their actions only really come to fruition in the genocide route where you start to get a glimpse into what they want.

Fair enough. Also, all you can get from Frisk (their name) is derived from True Pacifist, and Chara only gives hints of character in genocide, and even then it's minimal.
I think (personally) when a blank slate is used, you are supposed to project on them. It's easier for the developer (since Toby is a hack), and sometimes it's better for the player- hence the continuing fanbases and headcanons everyone creates for Frisk and Chara.

Of course, in doing this you get completely retarded shit, and some well-thought through fan-theories and stuff about others' interpretations and projections which mean nothing because ultimately, Frisk and Chara are nothing. Except what you make.
