What the community is able to do with the game with modding tools is sometimes overstated, you're really not going to see Skyrim's combat actually be truly overhauled, but attempts to improve on it are there. Wildcat's not going to magically not make it Skyrim combat, but it's going to make doing well feel more rewarding.

With me it's about going in there with a character build, using SkyTweak to customize the game to work with that playstyle, and setting personal restrictions to make it challenging and fun. I know that is guide abiding, but hell, it's kept me engaged for years.
