Didn't help much. Don't know how I'm constantly hitting under a gb of free space with a 2tb drive.

If you are using windows, on the Computer folder where all your drives are listed, right click and view the properties for that 2TB drive. Note the values of used space and free space. You can quickly add up the used space and the free space values. That total should be equal to the capacity of the drive. If not, then there are hidden trash and debris files that are either to be recovered or deleted.

Move that properties window to the side so you can look at it later.

Open up that folder icon for the 2TB drive. You are now in the root directory of that 2TB drive. Ctrl-A to select all folders and files. Now right click with the mouse cursor over one of those selected folders. All the folders should remain highlighted and you will now see a properties window. That property window sums up all the space used by those. It should match up with the claimed used space.

As for the trash files and debris files, you will have to deal with them. They waste space on the drive. The recycle bin has the trash files that have yet to be deleted. As for debris files, those have their hidden bits set so they remain invisible normally. They may have file suffixes such as .000, 001, 002, etcetera. Those debris files are created out of the remnants of lost files resulting from running SCANDISK or some other windows repair program. Such programs like scandisk "repair" the file structure by throwing away any imperfect or mixed up files. It's a shitty repair to throw away both the baby and the used bath water, but that's how it works so fast and simply. But those debris files build up over time and consume drive space.

You can delete them or try to recover them if you are able to read and demarcate sections of those files. I've done that with mine via hex editor to look for end of file markers or jfif tags (jpeg images)....
