Did you get lost on your way to the weenie hut?

You act like this is a new phenomenon.

>cut spending to NASA and education
>increase military spending
>?????
>PROFIT!!

What is the function of warships in the modern world?
Do these idiots not understand that the US Navy is the guarantor of maritime borders and territories?

4 billion really isn't that much more than a typical destroyer, and the unit pricing would have been lower if they had made more. It's a shame really.

What an ugly boat

Nah, it looks great. Just look at those stealthy flat surfaces. Sexy.

>spending 120b on warships which will never fully be used is how you spend taxpayers money
xD

>zumwalt's are for maritime defence
>not stealth missions and land attacks
xD

>inb4 they scrapped em
Not the point - they actually went ahead with plans to spend over 100billion on these ships, and retroactively scrapped them after a waste of around 30 billion in costs and research and development.

Why is this thread here and not on /k/?

Mods are asleep I guess.

Research and development isn't "wasted." It's not like the knowledge just disappears. They can order more in the future or apply the knowledge to future ship construction projects.

>They can order more in the future or apply the knowledge to future ship construction projects.
That's all well and good, but that knowledge only applies to the creation of more Zumwalt class destroyers. Unless you are implying their creation actually lead to some new technology (not impossible), all they did was play around with already known technologies to create the Zumwalt, like a very ucking expensive lego toy.

We are past the stage where research and development is "always a good thing".

>Unless you are implying their creation actually lead to some new technology

It most certainly did.

what are railgun battleships for 1000 trebek.

were they ever used?

The US is somewhat beyond conventional warships, in the sense that the US can project power without having actual battles at sea. (subs and aircraft carriers and large transport ships are still necessary to do that on a large scale of course). Those assets need escort and protection though.

BUT the big thing is now that Chiner is finally entering the 1930s in terms of naval power, destroyers and other navery are appropriate to check and deter them from doing that. This whole Spratly Islands bullshit is going to get heated. It's going to come-down to Australia (which a large navy in its region but a small navy by world standards) to push Chiner's buttons along the S. Chiner Sea shipping routes, and it's going to come-down to the USA to make sure there isn't a goddamn thing they can do about it.

As dually Aus/USA citizen the next few years are gonna be interesting. Also Vietnam is the only country that's deployed artillery on nearby islands within range to bombard them. Tthe US and 'Nam might actually get in the sack together on this one! Which is neat.

It was used during siege of sevastopol and fired 50~ rounds.

[citation needed]

Something that is not the Zum

Australia already ruled out patrols in te SCS.

Also, their navy is currently shit.

Finally, Vietnam isn't even allowed to but all American weaponry. We aren't fighting with them until they remove their commies.

>asking for citations regarding top secret technology

Advanced gun system, integrated power system, automated damage control systems, total ship computing environment infrastructure, common display system, peripheral vertical launch system, tumblehome wave piercing hull, etc plus other stuff that isn't publicly known.

The Z is the most innovative ship built in a long time.

Eh well, Straya is currently revisiting their whole policy actually, and as far as Vyetnam is concerned it doean't really matter, twas just an anecdote.

But yeah anyway, Straya is just now beefing up their navy (new subs and destroyers on order) and also becoming more publicly hoppin' mad about the Spratlys. I guess we'll just see.

That's a lot smaller than I expected. You cunts are rich, how come you don't have more? You even have a few good home-grown companies like Austal.

Literally the entire industrialized world save the US and Israel have tiny, anemic militaries because

>what do we need that for
>need more money for them programs

I wonder how history will remember American excess.
