>it's another "Oh, you wanna enjoy a quick match of Kerrigan? Here, let me give your enemies Tracer, Li-Ming, Valla, Zeratul and Artanis. Oh, and you get a silenced MasterSkin Nova." episode

FUCK YOU BLIZZARD, FUCKING PIECES OF SHIT FUCK YOUR GOD DAMN ATROCIOUS FUCKING FAGGOT MATCHMAKING.

It wasn't funny the first time

>posting it again

So after swearing that I'll never pick up another MOBA because I'm already too busy playing Dota 2 and Memewatch, my autism got the better of me and I spent the week grinding games in HotS for the Genji skin and also for the free heroes in HotS because why not.

The differences between the two games are staggering, I don't really see why people would bother to lump the two together at all. Also my jackass coworkers always kept talking shit about how HotS was the "best MOBA for intellectuals" all the fucking time and gave me shit refusing to play with them.

But back to the point, is there a good Dota 2 -> HotS transition resource you guys would recommend? Something that goes into the actual mechanics and numbers that isn't just some wiki crawl because that never really works to actually learn the game for me. All the reading in the world didn't really help me gain an intuition for Dota or its mechanics until after a few months of playing and I imagine it'd be the same for HotS but I'm hoping it'd be easier for me if there's a good resource I can read to fill in the gaps from what I've seen in-game so far.

Also is there a particular grinding pattern for exp/gold/heroes that you guys adhere to? I see screenshots like and where you guys just stop at lv 10. Is it because the rewards from 11-20 aren't worth the time or is it just autism? Should I prioritise the f2p rotation heroes first or just stick with what I like / own first?

Also what are good heroes to play for newbies? I own Jaina, Tracer, Zarya, the free heroes from the Nexus challenge, and Tyrande(?) from the tutorial but I'm not sure if they're actually good or not to learn with. Valve for example forces you to play harder / bad heroes in tutorial missions and have very outdated item build suggestions that basically poison a lot of newbies who actually care to do the tutorials and I don't want to be like that. Also getting sick of spamming Jaina a bit.

lmao hots is easy as fuck compared to other mobas

most people max out chars at 10 because it takes a fuckton of xp to level after that

i made it to 10 on lunara btw

Hi, shinwizzy.

Hi there.

>dota 2 to hots transition
There's a few, will see if I can find you one.

>grinding pattern for heroes/gold
500 gold for hero level 5, 750 for 9

There's a spikier "master" skin available for 10,000 gold if you're at least level 10 on the hero, which is why a lot of people stop there

tldr level everything you can to 5 for the relatively free gold

>good starter heroes

Raynor, Valla, Zagara for ranged damage-dealers
Malfurion and Li-Li for healer support
Johanna, ETC, Muradin and Diablo for beefy tank

some other user will probably expand more on the ideal starter heroes, but these are just the first to come to mind for me. will go poke around for the dota>hots transition thingy

>hots "best MOBA for intellectuals"

literally what lmao

bronze 5 here

ama

you fkn legend how

i wanna be like u

we do have the best looking icon. its true. I feel sorry for all those plebs who only have platinum or grand master. lol

>Dive enemy backline during teamfight for a good 15 seconds at least

>ponyfucker

They are in this thread RIGHT NOW!

depends on who you are and who they are and who your team is.

Fuck no, and he never will unless he gets significant changes. Absolutely everything he has to offer can be completely avoided and does not deter the enemy team from doing anything, despite Blizzard constantly calling him an area denial master.

>lmao hots is easy as fuck compared to other mobas
I didn't want to judge until I actually played it so that I'd know what I'm talking about instead of being as uninformed as a youtuber who'd parrot some memes after half a game and then never touch it again.

My coworkers are the SF/SV hipster engineer types. They think that LoL is the best game ever but blame the community for everything and only watch games, that Dota is worse than Hitler because of shit like turn rates and losing gold for dying (every single person I ask bitches about turn rates), and that HotS is the "best" game for "smart intelligent people" like themselves.

I try not to talk about video games with other people anymore. I just say I'm too busy with work to play and just respond with "Oh, that Blizzard Dota/League game you guys keep talking about." after pretending I didn't understand what they're talking about.

>There's a spikier "master" skin available for 10,000 gold if you're at least level 10 on the hero, which is why a lot of people stop there
>tldr level everything you can to 5 for the relatively free gold
Okay, was asking because if it's not worth going past 10, I'd like an excuse to stop at 10 instead of going to 20 on each from the start. Kind of disappointing to hear the skins are still 10k gold after that, especially since it doesn't seem like I'll barely get a couple thousand a month even if I played 24/7 because each game seems to only give 10 gold a win and most of the income comes from dailies and the weekly brawl so it's an extra 10k gold per hero after buying the hero.

>will go poke around for the dota>hots transition thingy
Thanks for the suggestions and for looking.

I've been liking Jaina because I usually play ganking roamers / supports in Dota and liked being active around the map and she seemed like a great pick for a roamer style of play. Bit sick of maining her though so I wanted to look at other heroes.

>literally what lmao
See top response.

You can't trust your team to not be retarded without you protecting them 24/7. It's almost always better to turtle than it is to dive if you're uncoordinated.

Reposting for fun

May/Aprilish

Katrana Prestor/Onyxia -- Specialist/Multiclass/Assassin

Abilities -- human form

Sabotage -- Touch a fort or keep to cause next group of enemy minions to spawn with one health.

Drakefire Amulet -- Trap. Hero touching the amulet gets it stuck to them, granting vision and causing the next five auto-attacks to miss. Ability damage of affected hero reduced by x% for three seconds.

Councilor -- Empower allied minions for a brief time.

Kidnap -- Heroic. Targeted hero is removed from combat for a brief time. If hero's name is Varian, hero is instantly killed with a quarter of the respawn time.

Puppetmaster -- Heroic. Current drakefire amulet target is controlled by the player as if it were their chosen hero for x seconds.

Standard mount.

Trait: Disguised. Lady Prestor cannot be targeted by enemy towers, forts, keeps, or minions. Heroes attacking her break this disguise.

Abilities -- dragon form

Flame Breath -- Cone of fire like every other cone of damage ability in the game

Tail Sweep -- AoE knockback, stuns.

Lay Eggs -- Enemies that wander too close cause eggs to hatch. 3 whelps emerge to attack. Can drop around anywhere like mines. After a minute or so, eggs hatch on their own and move to the nearest lane as Onyxian Warders

Deep Breath -- Heroic. "Onyxia takes a deep breath..." Onyxia sweeps a small area, breathing out a wave of flames. (Think localized Ragnaros flame wave.)

Engulfing Flames -- Heroic. Onyxia flies into the air becoming unstoppable. After a short period, she picks the nearest enemy regardless of distance and fires a fast-moving fireball with tracking.

Mount becomes global flight.

Trait: Disguise broken -- Activate to resume disguise early. Otherwise disguise resumes after a period of time.

there are no "mobas for intellectuals", we're all stupid here

>HotS will never have a story mode campaign

>Nova and Gazlowe will never be removed

Mm. 1-5 is pretty quick, 5-9 isn't too long, especially with a Stim on a Hero you like. 9-10 is, like, 5,000,000 experience.

Every level from 10 to 20 is around the same. Twenty just exists because players probably felt "punished" for continuing to play a Hero after they had already reached 10. Dunno, though.

Also; gold generation is mostly dailies, and the weekly brawl. Hero level 5 or 9 is a little side bonus. You should be able to afford every new Hero (after reduced from 15,000 to 10,000) as they come out, although I'd recommend just finding ones you enjoy first, because you'll always catch up eventually.

>transition
Went looking around and most of what I found doesn't look terribly good, but I can't tell because I haven't really played dota. People here are usually pretty content in answering questions regarding what makes the game different, though

>jaina

Yep, pretty solid. Especially with Heroes capable of locking enemies down (Muradin, Malfurion and ETC). She's a pretty reasonable Hero to get started with, and doesn't really fall off, at least not for a while.

>hots is for intellectuals

genuinely curious as to how they could have possibly arrived at this

There's a shiny sparkly "Objective spawns in x seconds HERE" marker. It's not there for fun. Objectives push harder than you can do, so meet up with your team to get them. There's a few instances this doesn't apply, usually heroes with global abilities or the specialist category, but seriously, help your team out there. It's 3-4 less kills your enemy team will have.

While I'm at that, try to avoid getting killed the most. If you're not sure whether it's safe or not, don't risk it. Just passively sticking to a lane and soaking EXP not only for yourself, but also your team, will help a lot more than being down a man for 30 seconds, giving EXP to the enemy team AND missing out on lane EXP. Feeding will not just help one enemy out, it will hinder your entire team AND help the entire enemy team at the same time. Don't fucking feed.

There's certain power spikes. Level 10, 14, 17 and 20 are the biggest ones, mostly. Avoid teamfighting if your enemy has hit one of these milestons while you haven't, ESPECIALLY 10. They will fuck you up with their ults while you can't do shit in exchange.

There's also roughly two phases. Laning and objectives up to level 10, and then just brutal ganking and teamfights over objectives all day long until one side wins after that. There are pretty much no carries. Don't be afraid to leave your lane for a bit because of an objective or if you reckon the teams gonna get into trouble soon. Unless you're down a Keep (fortress right within your base), lanes are gonna keep even always.

Jungling doesn't exist, there's only merc camps here. A neutral camp with enemies that after defeating will push a lane for you, very hard so if unanswered. Don't just do them nilly-willy, pushing alongside them will do a lot more, or doing them right before an objective, where the enemy can't do anything about them because they're too busy fighting with you. Bosses in particular do a lot of damage if your team can zone the enemy from going all in.

muradin is great

first 2 games i played him i was mvp

How many of us have 20s? Post your 20s.

remember to always take frost wyrmfu and her lvl 20 upgrade as arthas or you're a shit

Adult Murloc hero WHEN

Sorry, but the talent of FREE movement speed and DPS gains is just too good. Unless they have Jaina or KT, always go Advance.

Thoughts on Leoric? Just picked him up.

>Godly self sustain/damage/zoning vs heroes with W
>Great wave clearing and semi-poking in Q
>Excellent escape and chasing mobility in E
>Two very adaptable heroics
>Can significantly reduce respawn time and respawn just about anywhere he wants
>Skins are top shelf if you're into that

Bring me back down to earth because he might be my new favorite.

Yes please.

Maybe next year.

It's called playing the original games. Y'know, Diablo, Starcraft, Warcraft.

>You will never play a TLV-style Murloc swarm with a Murloc Oracle, Tidehunter, and Scavenger
>The Oracle heals, the Tidehunter is an assassin, and the Scavenger is a specialist
>Every talent tier gives you three choices that bolster one of the 3 Murlocs
>You can go tidehunter + oracle for a sustain-focused dps
>You can go pure oracle to be a pure support
>You can go scavenger + oracle for a lane sieger
>You can be an even mix of the three and be mediocre
>If you go pure assassin you're a glass cannon like li-ming
>If you go pure scavenger you're squishy and deal poor damage to heroes but have great lane clear, merc potential, and building damage, and maybe even building protection.

play heroes on the free rotation and buy them if you like them.

just be aware that it might not immediately be obvious what a characters true role is. for instance, you generally don't want to solo support tyrande unless you are going for an extremely aggressive comp, you never want solo support tassadar. characters like sonya and arthas are bruisers so you don't want to be the only warrior on your team with them.

i think the only heroes that you should really stay away from are gazlowe, murky, and cho'gall. every other character has a place, although some might be more niche than others.

one hero i would recommend is valla. she is fun, cheap and quite strong right now, fits all maps and compositions assuming you don't already have an auto attacker.

oh and you can try heroes out in try mode in the store if you haven't found that already.

Is March of the Black King ever fucking good? It seems like the worst heroic ever.
Weak damage, weak utility, easy to dodge, and trash compared to trapping 1-3 enemies in your tomb.

>i think the only heroes that you should really stay away from are gazlowe, murky,
Bullshit.
Gazlowe and Murky can carry games in solo queue. Gazlowe was one of my best starter heroes because he taught me to pursue merc camps and map objectives. Since that's his job.

Its talent to apply drain essence to anyone caught in the march can force groups to fuck off very easily and turn a chase around in your teams favor. Especially with the talent that extends drain range.

adult female pandaren when

yeah, but that's not like crossover with the raven lord or whatever

maybe I should just write some nice fanfics.

sorry, i forgot some people only play bronze level quick memes.

probably not bad on maps where lots of enemies group up around smaller map objectives.

It would be best if you could entomb and then march right into your tomb.

>3-1 on placements so far
This isnt so bad

He's decent and can definitely be worth picking but he gets kited like a motherfucker and he has no hard CC.

Just play him against a competent Li Ming or Falstad; it'll make you want to cry. He's p good against melee heavy teams though.

Gazlowe works just fine until somewhere in Diamond.

imminent 50/50

I'd say the easiest heroes for newbies are the ones with good escapes

Tank: Muradin
Assassin: Li-Ming
Support: Lili
Spec: Sylv or Xul

In fact lili has completely auto target abilities. Li-ming has projectile based spells but you shouldn't miss too much unless you're too retarded, she has the best escape of all assassins. Either way you don't know jack shit until you play all the heroes at least to level 5~9.

Seriously? You were giving advice to a new player and didn't think that maybe a new player would start off in bronze and playing quickmatch? Did you put any thought into your replies before you made them?

Think of how dumb the average Veeky Forums poster is. Then realise half of them are dumber.

Why would you practice getting better at something that you want to get away from? Are you a retard? You don't play a split push murky to learn the game.

Reminder that Gazlowe, Nova and Murky, get worse and worse as your opponents get better and better, and Blizzard gives absolutely zero fucks about them. The only reason Murky is getting reworked is because of how much of a "meme" he is, and nobody will shut the fuck up about him.

Further proof of this is that they barely tossed Gazlowe a bone, mixing his talents up a bit, and Nova's rework completely changing how she plays and giving her yet again one single way to build with no variance, and unlike Nazeebo, they haven't bothered to do anything to change that.

>hi guys just wondering what some okay beginner heroes are
>people post tier lists

Every time.

>li-ming
>easiest

I'm not saying she's Alarak or Kerrigan, but probably not the Hero to start with, especially with how popular she is.

going to work my way up to master after s3 placement games

then only play gaz

>someone hovers over master illidan
>teammate picks illidan faster
>master illidan: okay since you want to be a dick
>picks tassadar
>says its for damage

illidan players everyone

You're not allowed to queue for draft until you have enough heroes to avoid being 100% banned/picked out of any selections.
You're also not allowed to skip out of bronze to higher skill ratings if you're put there.

You have to be fucking trolling. No new player gets to fucking choose their ranking or avoid playing quickmatch.

fug i have to get 14 heroes to level 5

i only have 7

So you're plan is to play shit heroes, playing in a way that you aren't supposed to play, so that you aren't even remotely prepared when you finally are able to queue for real game modes?

And you have no idea why this is absolutely fucking retarded?

>fun
>good
>diablo character
pick only two

>kharazim

Nazeebo and Xul are all three.

Witch Doctor and Necro are also by far my favorite Diablo characters. So I guess ignore me. But fuck you, they're all three.

>So you're plan is to play shit heroes, playing in a way that you aren't supposed to play, so that you aren't even remotely prepared when you finally are able to queue for real game modes?
Show me where I said that.
Go ahead. Quote me where I said that.

All I said was Gazlowe is good for learning to do mercs and objectives because it's his thing and lots of new players come into HotS stuck in the mindset that they have to sit in lane for 20 minutes before fighting.

Then you said every new player should just know how to play at top level and pick meta heroes and play them at that top level from the start as practice for when they can move on to ranked after climbing to level 30 or some shit.

And I told you why that's retarded.

Stop being salty and admit you fucked up.

valla
naz

All of them. Naz is questionable as he's a goofy pick. Diablo only if you're not a shitter.

>Gazlowe and Murky can carry games in solo queue

Here you are endorsing shit heroes that can be played in a shit manner to carry shit players in the lowest echelons of gameplay.

>All I said was Gazlowe is good for learning to do mercs and objectives

That's like saying dps character is good for learning that you have to attack the core because you might not realize it if you're playing support.

>Then you said every new player should just know how to play at top level and pick meta heroes and play them at that top level from the start as practice for when they can move on to ranked after climbing to level 30 or some shit.

I assumed that someone that cares enough to ask for advice and actually plays a real moba might want to get better at the game. I said every hero but three has a place, and I was absolutely correct. In no way shape or form is that telling him to pick only meta heroes. You are a fucking moron and you always will be unless you can learn to think objectively. Stop seeing want you want to see.

>Xul
>Zeebo

I like laning, and clearing minions. Feels good.

>honorable mention to ming because i think she's fun, but don't play her

Raynor is a pretty solid ranged assassin to learn the fundamentals on, even if he does get fucked by Kerrigan and Alarak at reasonable MMRs. Doesn't necessarily mean you should skip right over him onto Valla, who is apparently a bit more meta right now.

>playing auriel before underage panda
>playing zeratul before thrall
>playing any tank before johanna

Fix the young Murloc first. Murky is utter shit now thanks to LiMing, Tracer/Tychus/Monk/insertfastattackerhere and quest/snowball talents existing.
Them outright murdering his OctoGrab didn't help either.

Why did they change his Octo-Grab when he was already struggling, anyways?

>muh consistency
>muh counterplay

They really fucked the little guy over, and didn't give him any sort of compensation.

Even his block got fucking nerfed compared to others, whose block received a buff to 75%.

I can't wait for them to completely gut and butcher Murky with their "rework" - when all they'd need to do is revert the fucking OctoGrab hypernerf and make Murky not count as a hero for talents/abilities/passives.

what heroes should i have for ranked

right now i have

jaina
valla
muradin
johanna
nova
medic
sonya
sgt. hammer
tyrande
uther

>There are people that consider Li Ming a difficult hero to play

How? It is basically Chromie.

I mean it's basically "be in team fights, do damage and stay too far back for butcher to get you"

She's boring.

>comparing li ming to chromie

chromie at least takes some correct timing and positioning, li ming can just snapcast and has a blink

People are too stupid to aim and shoot or pick the best spell shield in the game when they need it, I've seen idiots not taking force shield against kael/chromi/nova/zeratul/instert burst hero and just die 15 times.

What isn't fun about Nazeebo? That shit is hilarious.

He is fucking unstoppable in pub games.

I actually meant to type "Chromie with training wheels" but it didn't go out for some reason.

I find Ming to be a great "we need a mage and I dont usually play mages" hero. I hate ranged DPS but Ming is just so easy to plug into virtually any comp and win with. I don't even enjoy her, but she's a good "I need a screw driver"

I figured that's why the gave her out for free.

Demonology Warlock hero when?

>demo warlock

you mean the spec that blizzard literally said that they don't want players picking?

lol

>someone hovers tass
>oh good now I can pick another half support like monk or tyrande and we'll be good
>OH UR SUPP? OK ILL GO BUTCHER THEN XDDDD

Eh? I said that I liked Xul and Nazeebo.

>the spec they don't want people playing
>another hero that spawns a bunch of little shits

Nah.

Derp, I meant to link the same response you did.

I couldn't figure it out either.

Xul and Naz seem pretty strong, and nobody disputes Li-Ming being good.

I don't understand how people miss with a skillshot that is literally as wide as two Diablos.

I think playing her actually made me worse at Stitches. I got really used to saving hook for exactly the right target at the exact right time, because if I miss 16 sec cooldown, or I hook a tank and actually help them engage.

With Ming I don't even feel like I'm making decisions just "well I guess I'll throw 600 damage at the enemy team every 8 seconds."

Why is nobody playing hero league? fuck

It's the equivalent of the night prior to raids resetting, everybody should be bustling for this garbage

>placements

Bingo.

DED GAEM.

>Dota 2 copy pasted HotS' talents system but managed to make it even more boring
Ecks dee

Not disputing, but queues were only this long for placements.

Dropped to 30-120 seconds after being placed.

>Here you are endorsing shit heroes that can be played in a shit manner to carry shit players in the lowest echelons of gameplay.
Yes. We're talking about beginner play. Where these shit heroes played in shit ways can, in fact, carry while also teaching fundamentals to the player, like the importance of lane rotations, merc camps, objectives, split pushes, harass, kiting, etc.

>That's like saying dps character is good for learning that you have to attack the core because you might not realize it if you're playing support.
False. And I rebutted this before you even said it. I used the example of newbies who think you sit in lane for 20 minutes like in LoL or Dota specifically to counter this point before you made it.

Stop being autistic.

>Stop seeing want you want to see.
You'r projecting.

WHY IS EVERYONE IN PLAT A LITERAL MONG WHO PICKS HEROES HE CANT PLAY

Mm, there are definitely some Heroes that just aren't played terribly well below a certain league/rank.

Alarak, Illidan, Zeratul, Kerrigan and Auriel are the first to come to mind.

plat knows the meta and what characters are good, but aren't mechanically skilled

Can you faggots just shut the fuck up and say something nice about Valla? You don't know shit, your discussions are shit, no one cares.

>valla

Is Valla even cute?

She's my favourite in Diablo 3 at least. Other classes get boring kinda quickly. DH is nice and comfy.

not the one he posted like what even is that

I honestly don't get why "this hero is good but I can't play him, so I'm picking a hero I can play well instead" is so hard to grasp...

>muh meta
>muh tier lists
>muh counterpicks
>muh composition

Like, there are people in Platinum and Diamond who can't even properly attack-move on Valla, let alone Lunara.

The Anub'arak buffs didn't do shit for him, did they?

I'll be at 20k by the time I finish leveling these level 4s this week.
Buy heroes with it or master skins?

>doesn't own johanna
bronze league hero over here
