Why are Mustangs and Camaros so unpopular in drifting compared to Japanese cars and BMW's?

Are they harder to control in a drift or something?

You're comparing two different types of vehicle.

American racing heritage was born of stock car racing (muh bootleggers) and drag racing, and their sport vehicles reflect this heritage. And of course American companies being all fucking about MUH HERITAGE their vehicles reflect this.

Noone gave a fuck about dorifto, so no one made a car for dorifto.

Expensive
A 3k Silvia or skyline is perfect for the job
Even foxes and ls1 maros need a bit of work

With exception to maybe the GT86/BRZ, I don't think any car has ever been "made" for doriftu out of the factory. But pretty much any FR car will do it well out of the box, even old Volvos.

Drifting wasn't a sport in Germany, but that hasn't stopped the BMW 3-series from being one of the most popular drift cars worldwide.

We're talking burgerland drifting right now, guy. There are no 3k Skylines

Why don't we ever see mr2's being drifted?

Don't a lot of them have live rear axles? I can't imagine no rear camber would be very conductive for drifting.

Oh, foxes and ls1 maros still a Damn good choice though

Live rear means they can have the absolute shit flogged out of them

you dont even need rear camber for drifting

most run close to 0 degrees

Can you really not adjust camber on LRA's?

4th gen Camaros have IRS, not sure about turd gens.
Short wheelbase + rear weight bias = very difficult to drift

Look up "snap oversteer." Porsche 911's used to be very bad for this.

But you would think at least a few pro drifters would use mr2 to be special snowflake

>solid axle
>heavy
>sloppy steering
>bad weight distribution
if you have the money to fix the above then you could have a decent drift car. this is why they aren't common, you can pay a lot less money to have a good drift car

because having the engine over the tires you're trying to lose traction on, and very little weight in the front is good for drifting

>solid axle
AE86 has a solid axle and is one of the most popular drift cars of them all
>heavy
Foxbody Mustangs can be brought under 3000lbs with very little stripping. Not a super light car, but hardly unwieldy
>sloppy steering
Can't argue since I've never driven one. Are there aftermarket steering racks?
>weight dist
They're typically within the ballpark of 55:45 which is perfectly fine for drifting. Most FR cars are slightly nose heavy.

>what is snap oversteer

yes but you see youre dealing with a worse platform in every way

why start out with complete shit when a S chassis is cheaper to build for it while being a better starting point

thats why most dont fuck with it

Uh, foxbodies are the best kept secret in drifting dude.

>best kept secret

maybe in 2011

How well do 4th gen Camaros drift?

Yeah, every one I've seen is trashed or 10k

>expendable
Fuck you nigger, stop considering cool cars expendable.
Go drift some ugly pos instead.

fuck off

Mustangs are lame normie cars that are everywhere

Destroying them makes them more valuable. He knows what he's got.

So is every single mass produced car ever built.
Go get a bicycle.

>

They're heavy as shit and rather long. Plus, they're American cars and Americans prefer to go fast in a straight line rather than around a corner.

>s-chassis
>replace every piece of suspension with Z32 parts or aftermarket refab

Foxbody/SN95/NewEdge all have noodle chassis though, so you need subframe connectors to begin even thinking about doing shit with them
Turd Gens need an LS swap because Lt1s are fucking anchors

Most stateside S-chassis need a SR20/CA18DET swap because its still competitive on cost vs reward on homeboosting a KA24

There is a very early cutoff point in building a KA where you realize with all the extra money you put into it you could have had a swap done and just thrown money at much cheaper bolt ons

Also the pony cars need custom shit and cutting, which is a lot more aggravating than just bolting another cars suspension underneath an S-chassis

Too heavy and clunky.

Because american garbage is literally useless for anything that's not going in a straight line.

it's called snap oversteer, not very conducive to a controlled oversteer

They're heavy and sluggish with shit suspension.

heres your 1-3 degrees camber on a live axle

>faster than new NSX with less power, RWD, and a manual

except that half the cars in formula d are stangs

There are millions of the fucking things which are already horribly modded/damaged/huge mileags. Expendable.

He's probably from a country that isn't full of Mexicans who glorify Skylines and s chassis cars i.e. Australia
