Define insane?

Did you forget about the other communist regimes that committed mass killings?

Sure commies commited mass killings, but wiping out all your educated population?

That's along the lines of what Stalin and Mao tried to accomplish.

>inb4 butthurt sovietboos

still they could manage the country
KR made the whole society collapse, it went beyond the concept of failed state

Actually that's literally what America has been doing.

To give a non meme answer because the Khmer Rouge were pretty much all idiotic thugs given guns to go start shit

>drives population out of cities
>forces them to work on rice farms
>no industry outside of farming
>sells all the rice to China
>huge famine in Cambodia

I think the population of Phnom Penh went from 500,000 to 20,000 in a year.

>Stalinism and Maoism
>free schooling and university for everyone, engineers and scientists are the most suited to run things, classical music is promoted
>Pol Pot
>Anyone who wears glasses surely wants to read books, shoot them all.

It's more along the lines of what Boko Haram wants to accomplish.

No other communist regime managed to kill 25% of their population though.

>Mao Zedong: U kno fellow Asian gais, we cant into communism since that necessitates an industrialized society and we're agrarian n shiet. Y cant we, like, FOCUS THE REVOLUTION WITHIN THE AGRARIAN CLASS AND BUILD FROM THERE? Fuck Marx and his progression model.

Paul Potts.
>Hey Mao is correct.
>EVERYONE, RESTART SOCIETY :DDDD KILL EDUCATED PEOPEL WE ALL MUST BE PESANTS.

Basically Pol Pot created a fucked up version of Maoism.

Didn't Veeky Forums determine early on that Pol Pot was literally /r9k/: the Dictator who staged his own Beta Uprising, complete with purges of the "normies"?

>even after taking power he was too shy to appear in public much
Strange feels.

Backed by the CIA and Tito

>Basically Pol Pot created a fucked up version of Maoism.

And Maoism was a fucked up version of Marxism-Leninism

You don't make friends with revisionists

Hoxha go build another bunker and leave us alone.

Mao didn't go around rounding up people just because they are edumacated.

Hell, it was the edumacated doing the rounding up.

'no'

That's what happens when you elevate the peasants instead of the proles

extreme paranoia and distrust fueled it.

Pol Pot seemingly wanted to create a strictly agrarian worker's paradise, with no education, no services or pensions, just simply farmers working in communes who know nothing else but working in communes. He believed that any educated person at almost any capacity was a threat that could undermine the state and sought to curtail it as much as possible or eliminate it.

I can see where Pol was coming from but I still don't understand why such a society would be a goal to achieve.

Also Pol Pot feared, more than anything else, saboteurs from other nations. Survivors of his regime always report being accused of being a Vietnamese or Thai spy, and would execute them based on just the accusation alone rather than even a forced confession.

The last was the territorial ambition. Pol Pot was scared stiff of the Vietnamese because he aimed to take the Mekong Delta for Cambodia, but never got past occupying a few border villages in Vietnam before the war really got started and he was ousted by Vietnam.

Alright. Listen up fuckboy. Pol Pot did nothing wrong. He was ahead of his time, truly the ideological avant-gardé; the ideal of the noble hill people is in fact the return to true progress. And he would have gotten away with it too, if only he had more rice to fuel the DREAM.

This is accurate.

Pol Pot and the other leaders like Son Sen and Nuon Chea were all influenced by communism (specifically Maoism) while at college abroad in France as well as Khmer Nationalism. They wanted an extreme version of Maoism where every member of society was what they called "old people," or people untouched by the evils of westernization and capitalism. The "New people," or the intelligencia, the city dwellers, and anyone who might have been tarnished by contact with western ideals were seen as a threat to both the Khmer cause and the Angkar (what they called their "government"). So because of this there were many many many fatalities. They felt the need to root out these people as they were seen as" saboteurs," and if they didn't confess to their "crimes," they were made to. Horrifically.

The Khmer Rouge were super autistic about gathering confessions. The entire point if their "prisons" was to get people accused of economic or political sabotage to confess to it by any means necessary, hence the brutal torture. It wasn't even really considered a crime to torture a "saboteur" to death unless it was before the interrogator has extracted an acceptable confession. Otherwise the interrogator himself was seen as a saboteur, and imprisoned and tortured until HE admitted it

bait

PAUL POTTS DINNA DO NUTTIN

HE WUZ A GOOD BOY

Basically Pol Pot was a butthurt peasant who somehow intertwined his butthurt with communism

Did LITERALLY nothing wrong.

Stalin killed literally 125% due to all the Ukrainians and Mao killed around 250% of their population by executing brave freedomfighters under Generalissimos Chiang Kai Shrek

Pol Pot wasn't a peasant, he went to college in France

What I'm wondering is why would anyone who was not Pol Pot support him?

>Mao killed around 250% of their population

How the fuck do you kill over double the amount of your population? kel

They kept getting rezzed

kids

I always liked this picture.

This is the greatest bit of irony relating to the Khmer Rouge

>Caldwell was one of the staunchest defenders of the Pol Pot regime. He frequently attempted to downplay reports of mass executions in Cambodia, but was widely attacked for doing so.[5]

>In December 1978 Caldwell was a member—along with Elizabeth Becker and Richard Dudman—of the last group of Western journalists and writers invited to visit Cambodia since the Khmer Rouge had taken power in April 1975. The three visitors were given a highly structured tour of the country. "We traveled in a bubble," wrote Becker. "No one was allowed to speak to me freely." On 22 December, Caldwell had a private audience with Pol Pot, the leader of Cambodia. After the meeting, he came back in a mood described as "euphoric" to the guest house in Phnom Penh where the three were staying. About 11:00 p.m. that night Becker was awakened by the sound of gunfire. She stepped out of her bedroom and saw a heavily armed Cambodian man who pointed a pistol at her. She ran back into her room and heard people moving and more gunshots. An hour later a Cambodian came to her bedroom door and told her that Caldwell was dead.

he forgot to take his glasses off

What about the great purge under Stalin. A decent portion of USSR's government and military staff was executed.

What about the cultural revolution in China. The red guard went around killing anybody who was suspected of not fully supporting the communists and destroying all the nice things China had.

Somebody get jealous about senpai.

Poeple's Republic Of Kampuchea Best Kampuchea

Most of the more energetic supporters were from the rural peasant class, who already had deep-set animosities towards the urbanized (or in their minds westernized) city dwellers, and saw themselves as an oppressed class

Because Pol Po was more of an agrarian nationalist than a communist. "Communism" was a means to an end.

>spotted the commie sympathizer

They went beyond the usual illiteracy into antiliteracy. There was no way they weren't going to be the stupidest regime on Earth.

Now that the dust has settled I think we can all agree that PP did literally nothing wrong.

What was their economic policy endgame?

"Grow roughly enough food to stay alive"

gr8 b8 m8 I r8 8/8

And Leninist Bolshevism created a fucked up version of Marxism.

You don't make friends with unindustrialized non-proles.

If Trotsky had succeeded instead of Stalin, would the Khmer Rouge be as bad?

>Pol Pot seemingly wanted to create a strictly agrarian worker's paradise, with no education, no services or pensions, just simply farmers working in communes who know nothing else but working in communes.
I think the South wants this, except with slaves. Oh wait, it's exactly the same.

Nobody else is comparable

How was Trotsky anywhere near this insane?

>The red guard went around killing anybody who was suspected of not fully supporting the communists

Incorrect

Kind of funny how the current president of China got purged by these crazy fuckers and lived/starved in a cave for 3 years.

Trotsky had glasses
