Tfw have to pay $250 just to learn how to drive stick in Virginia

>tfw have to pay $250 just to learn how to drive stick in Virginia

>he didnt learn manual in regular driving school
>he only pais 250$ for driving school
Tfw german and i paid almost 2000€ for my licence

they don't teach manual in normal driving school here

you need to go to a specialist school of which there are only like 4 in my state

i paid around 6-700 less.
it looks like you failed some test bro

the fuck?

10x1 hour lessons cost £200-ish in the UK which is usually how many you'll need (if your instructor is actually good). £23 for theory test, £63 for practical test. so under £300 in total.

>bragging about overpaying

these aren't general driving lessons, I am a fully licensed driver already.

This is specifically a lesson to learn how to operate a manual transmission car and nothing else

>americans

>$249 per 90 minute session
LAND OF THE FREE

I paid a grand in euromoney for my license and it included like half a dozen theoretical sessions and a dozen practical sessions.

Oh, and the car is provided by the school with fuel and stuff.

I paid a guy 100 dollars to let me fuck around with his manual v6 accord in a parking lot.

the funny thing is the instructors themselves don't even know how to drive stick properly. you are better off learning off a damn videogame if anything.

>needing lessons

holy fucking shit

the gear ratios are numbered from lowest to highest and their locations are denoted on the selector and sometimes around the selector
moving the pedal away from your body moves a portion of the coupling away from another portion. when they get close together they rub, when they're right up against each other they spin in unison
the coupling is between the engine and the wheels (indirect, driveshaft). these rotate at different rates determined by the gear ratios. the speed of the engine must closely match the speed of the wheels determined by the gear ratio when changing gear ratios. you learn the speeds by experience or by making a spreadsheet with engine speeds, gear ratios, and actual speeds for your wheel+tire diameter like a fucking nerd

congrats you know how to drive stick

>paid almost 2000€ for my licence
Cuckmany, mine was about 250

>Making spreadsheets to drive manual
Autism much?

Do you have to go to lessons as a requirement? Does some government worker have to tick you off before you can get a licence to say "yes they did the mandatory manual transmission course"?

It's not a hard thing to do. It's not worth $250, definitely, for 90 minutes. You'll get the feel for it in half an hour at most and then you just practice.

i'm just sick of being seen as a beta nu-male that doesn't know how to drive stick

Why was it so expensive? Here in Australia I only paid ~$200 for my licence.

Okay well you don't need to pay some scam artist $250 to learn to drive stick. $250 is a joke to learn that. You could just practice this in some backstreets or some industrial zone on a Sunday when everything's closed. Get a friend who drives manual to teach you or if you're nofriends put an ad up on craigslist. "$50 if you'll sit in a car with me for an hour and walk me through driving manual."

I fell for the driving school meme. It's a waste. Anything you learn you're gonna learn in the first half an hour at most and then you just need to practice. Sooner or later you just get used to making the motions of gear changes and you don't even think about them any more.

T. Virginian here, I'll teach you for 100. Or a case of yuengling if you are cute. Or a six pack if you are not cute.

what part of VA?

It's even more expensive where I live:
Administrative Fees: $150
First aid lessons: $150
Theoretical test: $50
Road awareness course: $250
20x 45 min lessons(if you're good, the average is around 30), $90 each: $1,800
Practical test: $50

In the end, that's around $2,500 if you're good, $3,000 if you're average and $3,500 if you suck

richmond

>30 euros is the theory
>30 euros is the theory test
>20 euros per hour and you need at least 21

oh shit senpai, i'm in chesterfield

Shitbox industries manual transmission training may be available the week after christmas

would you do $20? i'm a NEET so money's tight

I will do it for exactly zero dollars.

Get a job

i'm trying user

That's just Op going to some special "manual driving" school.

I paid $550 for my driving school, and it was 10 hours of in car driving lessons and 4x3hr theoretical lessons in a classroom. Took like a month and a half with how they spaced it out around your high school days, twice a week or something.

Even the manual training over here is 200 bucks for 3 hours if you already have your license.

You seriously don't have any friends who drive stick that could teach you?

Forza taught me the theory.
My mazda protege taught me the practical.

>You seriously don't have any friends

no

why do you think I browse Veeky Forums?

>going to driving school in general

>find someone who knows to drive manual
>rent manual car and let that person drive it on an empty parking lot
>practice as much as you need
>???
>profit

Not having your grandpa teach you how to drive stick on a ford N series tractor.

Miss my grandpa...

I'm sure the vast majority of people have at least double that amount of lessons. I only got driving on the road on my third lesson and the instructor insisted on going through every possible test route multiple times before she (yeah, there's the problem) let me use her car for the test

"drive stick" is such an annoying phrase. It's like newspeak or something

In norway we pay around $2300 for a car drivers license, which means we get educated properly on what the fuck we're actually doing on the road. We're tested in special facilities for different driving conditions etc, as well as how we hold up during long driving distances for up to 5 hours with a few stops along the way. Theres also a pretty hard theoretical test which you have to pass. In return we have a really low amount of traffic accidents, and especially ones that are fatal or someone gets seriously injured.

No wonder why you see all those videos from NA where you're sitting there wondering if the person behind the wheel has downs syndrome.

?

So it's safe to assume your schedule is mighty flexible, I'm pretty open during the week of the 26th

yall niggas need to email or kik or some shit

alright, do you have anything to keep in touch with?

>Being this retarded.

I learned on my protege, too.

I miss that car.

Email works, or just post another thread in two weeks

Or
>Ask a friend relative to let you drive their manual vehicle around for a couple hours
That should be all you need to learn

>going to driving school
>not living in the land of freedom where you can learn in a parking lot and take the test
>actually living in the rape capital of Europe, germany

I just taught myself for free : ^ )

where?

Alright, I'll probably make a thread around New Years time

>not being taught by your father

No wonder burgers hate manuels

How about you put on some big boy pants and just learn it on your own or with a friend.

Now you'll be seen as a beta nu-male who paid $250 to learn how to drive stick.

>compelling first aid lessons
>making the licensee pay for it
Kind of bullshit desu.

I learned stick when i bought a manual car and had to drive it home 50 clicks.

I got honked at a lot.

Same here bought a 90 vw gti stick and didn't know how to drive it, the owner was worried about me driving it home since I was 80 miles from home I ended up stalling about 4 times then once I got into the freeway it was cool

I wish other countries made getting your license this expensive.

Just think of how it will improve things here in the states. Even if its only $500 to get a license.

basically any european country
In france the base cost is 1k shekels, more if you need extra lessons(protip: you do, unless you have a parent with free time to sit on the car while you practice)

Sounds like Switzerland, except I don't recall any 150 bucks administrative fee...

You don't need a manual license to drive manual in the US, unless I'm mistaken. I got my regular license and then bought a manual car and learned that stuff on my own.

>mfw first worlders actually have to go to school to drive manual

>first world

Its less then 40$ to get a license here

>not being taught by your mother

The fuck, I learned stick on my own in my mom's nissan hardbody. Clutch took a while to figure out and 20 stalls later I mastered it.

I come to Cambodia to you and you teach me for free yes?

I only paid 1200€, some are more expensive than others

Come to Poland, do it for 200€, make it into international and you're set.
Many Pollacks went to Czech Republic to make international licenses because it was cheaper and the tests were easier

It's regional. I did the minimum amount of lessons necessary, didn't fail either of the tests, paid €1800 for BE class. Would've been 1400 for B.

It's a requirement in Germany.

>minimum of 12 theory lessons (45 minutes each).
>written theory test
If you pass that:
>minimum of 5 driving lessons
>minimum of 4 Autobahn driving lessons
>minimum of 3 driving lessons at night (all 45 minutes each)
>practical test including country roads, city driving and Autobahn

You can't always get by with the minimum amount either, if your instructor thinks you're not ready he won't register you for a test yet. I know people who took a total of 20 or more driving lessons.

Depending on where you live, how many lessons you take and how often you fail the test it'll run you about €1200-€2000+

Oh and it's all done in a manual car, you can choose to do it in an automatic but you'll only be allowed to drive automatic until you take another 4 lessons and a test in a manual.

OH and if you want to hitch up a trailer with more than 2 wheels or a maximum load over 750kg that's another 5 lessons, practical test and €400.

Oh and I forgot you have to take a first aid course and eye examination.

I just asked my friend to teach me and he taught me in his mr2 turbo.

It's not a very good car to learn manual in since you pick up bad habits. For instance, I could drop the clutch in an upshift without giving it has in that car so I thought I could do it in my civic si too. Also you could really feel the bite point in that clutch, in my si it's more like a gradient and you really have to push the clutch in all the way

Haha I paid $50. Fuckin Germacucks

>this thread
>learning how to drive is just about operating the steering wheel, and 2 or 3 pedals
>what are road safety rules ?
>what is practice and training in a safe and controlled environment ?
>defending a model where you just buy your license for a few bucks like you buy a sandwich

I'll gladly admit that prices are sometimes going overboard in euro countries and there's always room for adjustments. But I would never let goof a model where anyone who wants a licence has to have proper sanctioned training lessons before being let loose on the roads.
Sure, you may think you're above that and skilled/knowledgable enough to just take the test and succeed ..... but then again, so does the retard who doesn't know what a traffic light is and lucked out/blowjobed the inspector on their test, and I sure don't want them on the same road as me.

pro: you get to go as fast as you want on specific sections of road
con: that might go away because "muh old people cant drive and also have rights"

That's a little different than knowing how to operate such a simple thing

Unless they score you for smooth shifts in case you buy an LS swapped swedish brick and risk breaking the rear loose with every downshift

> in Washington state
> buy manual car
> teach my self in a few days
> wow
> you live in a cuck state, move out

>what are road safety rules ?
Literally child's play, stop at red things, don't hit other drivers, and yield to pedestrians if they gesture angrily enough.

>what is practice and training in a safe and controlled environment ?
So with my dad in an empty parking lot or on back-country roads depending on what part of the country you are in?

>defending a model where you just buy your license for a few bucks like you buy a sandwich
Pretty sure the license cost of the license literally does not matter because you either pay for it at the counter or with taxes. Also you have to take a test, just like everywhere else.

How does it feel that I was driving a manual at 8 and doing errands on public roads at 12?

You're a normal person with no learning or motor disability, good for you ... how does it feel to know retards are not filtered out and allowed to drive 1-2 tons metal boxes on the same roads as yours ?

>Also you have to take a test, just like everywhere else.
please, even in countries where this test isn't a joke, you know perfectly well that they can't do a thorough test of your knowledges and skills in such a short time, and even then you can luck out. And north american countries' driving test are the laughing stock of the civilised world.

>$1600 for my 125cc license
>$2100 for my car license
>$900 for extended car license & tractor
>$1100 for snowmobile license if I had not gotten it for free from workplace

I know your pain

>And north american countries' driving test are the laughing stock of the civilised world.

Yeah and your pathetic economy is the laughingstock of America. Go cry to your nanny-state government, maybe they'll infringe on more freedoms so you can have your special safe-space free from responsibility.

Holy fuck dude.

> $30 for car license
> $15 for my class E so I can drive tow truck
> $5 for motorcycle permit. No cc limit
>I think it's like $10 for the full motorcycle endorsement.

Burgerland

just practice on an old shitbox, nothing you can do can ruin the car unless you're incredibly retarded

Its the result of obligatory lessons & courses, expensive fees and high wage level.

But, those are all why our mortality rate and accident rate in general is a lot lower

Im a fellow yuropoor and i paid less than 1k for my license. Maybe you just suck at it.

Didn't you have a father growing up?

Sure enough, you're right about Switzerland. What I meant by the administrative fee is the cost for issuing the licences, both learner and final license.

>paying to learn standard

is your driving instructor literally paid 1c an hour?

Pay closer attention Hans, it's $250 per 90 minutes.
I don't know how things are done ine Gremany but here in Frenchland, you usually get at least 20h of practice before you can do anything. It usually costs something betwee 900 and 1200€.
For 20 hours.
the OPburger pays $250 for 1h30.
I'll let you do the math.

Based user, I learned to drive on a farmall a
