There's a 2nd hand R1200GS near me going for just £3000. Has about 20,000 miles and a few scratches on the tank and boxes at the back.

The 1200 is 1170cc and pretty tame, it would be a big step, mostly because of the massive weight and large amount of torque, but it should be doable.

Just look which year it is and which problems it might have (avoid pre 2008 completely I believe) before buying, as with all BMWs.

that depends on where you live, all the twisties are up in the hills here so there's no roos or wildlife at all (aside from the escaped mt white goats who like cliffs a bit more than roos).

I've never had a single wildlife scare on the twisties here night or day oddly enough, used to get it a bunch in tassie but not sydney.
