I'm bored of the manual meme. I don't want to shift gears anymore. It's tiresome. I just want to cruise in my 21st century automatic borebox.
I fell for the meme...don't do it!

New autos are superior in every way. Manual is literally a meme.

Burger spotted!

Sorry you live in a shit country where an automatic transmission is a """"luxury"""" option. It's OK. You can keep pretending having an outdated drivetrain makes you superior to make yourself feel better.

I'd ideally daily an automatic and have a manual summer/weekend car. i was stuck in chicago traffic this weekend (I am from a small town where traffic is barely a thing) with my stick shift car and it was hell on my left leg

>manuals more efficient
>manuals easier and cheaper to maintain
>manuals are lighter for that power to weight ratio , but you probably dont care since your left buttock weights more than 40 pounds.
>autos are actually cheaper in europe than manuals in the used car market because autos fuck up beyond 100k

im sorry a moron who cant drive stick

>Practically every point belongs in 1995
What a surprise.

It's fact. The synchromesh shitgearboxes some idiots call "standard" is outdated slowfag garbage.

A motorcycle-style sequential dog-clutch transmission would be a significant upgrade from that crap, and still miles below a good DCT.

>but muh feels
maybe if you could actually drive you wouldn't need to pretend to be mario andretti to have fun

>they are both just fine and it ultimately comes down to personal preference

learn
you'll enjoy the fuck out of it
it's not hard

Cute projection.
Don't need a manual.
>Hassle in city driving
>Less efficient
>Slower
>Typically come with fewer gears
Only meme-ing retards and third world country denizens can't grasp that modern automatics are better in every way.

hey guys just making sure u have seen my posts here. anyway, well bye

Just manualize your next auto

most cars come with a manual mode if they are 2003+

Ideally, gear changes should manual and electro/hydraulic with an auto override (cruise control for cool) and clutch operation should be automatic and electro/hydraulic with a manual override, and there should be no torque converter anywhere in the car.

But I'm a bikefag and i'm just used to sequential flappy-paddle like shifting and not using a clutch

If people prefer a manual, fine. The problem is they're always the fucknuts making sure they tell everyone manual is better when it factually is not
This. It's the best of both worlds. If you just have to be the one selecting gears because you're too good for the computer that does it in a nanosecond, you can. Then when you get in shit traffic pop it back in D.

Electronically controlled shifting changes the actual gears just as fast no matter who is deciding when to change

A computer will decide to shift faster considering its sensors for wheel speed, engine speed, incline, etc, and a human will be the only thing that can decide to shift depending on road conditions and how badly they want to drive less than fuel efficiently/more than fun-ly

This is pretty much what I was saying, just facetiously.

Sometimes I'm amazed americans aren't too lazy to breathe.

>Ironic since you're too lazy to read the thread or too stupid to have reading comprehension

>better fuel economy
>better acceleration
>gearbox nearly indestruktable
>drives much more like a sports car

Why should I want anything else than a manual?

>inb4 muh autotragics got better fuel economy than 30 years ago

Still not as good as a manual with a good driver.

>inb4 muh faster shifting

not while exiting a corner

>manual less efficient than autotragic

Only if you drive like a retard, hypermilers always choose manuals if possible to keep the rpm down, the drivetrain losses low and the weight down.

A computer usualy doesn't know wich gear is best for wich corner under wich ircumstances.

>Better fuel economy
Wrong. Standards usually have less gears than modern slushboxes and DCTs and can't use their engines as efficiently. Unless you're consciously hypermiling standard is the worst choice here.
>better acceleration
Wrong again. As long as you can select your own gears you can stay in the powerband instead of the MPGband to your hears content.
>gearbox nearly indestructable
What's a synchro? What's a clutch? What's your hamfisted shifting grinding everything to shit?
>drives much more like a sports car
Then you want a DCT with paddles on the steering wheel, which comes close to an F1 car in user experience once you stop the computer-controlled shifts.

>muh faster shifting
Yes, even when exiting a corner. Faster than you could manage with dog clutches instead of synchros.

that's what I said faggot

racers don't let MPG calculators shift for them

If you have a manual tercel or something equally shitty I can see what you mean. The marginal amount of "fun" a stick provides at that level might not be worth it.

If you have anything better than that, stick is a lot of fun.

>better fuel economy
Nope.
>better acceleration
Nope.
>gearbox nearly indestructible
Like most modern automatics?
>drives much more like a sports car
Incredibly vague. If you mean being able to select gears, good thing literally every auto worth a shit has a manual shifting mode now, which WILL shift faster since the clutch and shifting are done by a computer.

>Still not as good as a manual with a good driver
Nope. Pulling horseshit out of nowhere.

>Not while exiting a corner
Nope. More horseshit. Don't believe in the computer's ability? Put it in manual mode.

Also you conveniently ignore that manuals come with fewer gears now.

There's zero reason for manuals to exist. Welcome to the 21st century.

you underestimate the retardation of hypermilers

>why yes i am lugging it in fourth up this hill
>i heard it burns 0.00001 fewer gallons per mile

>extreme, retarded outlier
Utterly irrelevant.

Sounds like some shitty hypermiler because chances are 4th is less efficient than a gear that provides a better torque response.

why would I read the opinions of worthless subhumans literally too lazy to shift.

>zero reason for manuals to exist
Not true. We still need them to put in plebmobiles as cheaper options.

>Calls facts that don't fit his narrative """opinions""" so he can ignore them with a clear conscience
Typical dumbfuck

Do you try this hard to convince your boyfriend that anal sex is better than vaginal when he threatens to leave you?

Some people like driving stick because it's fun. You feel like the engine is pretty much directly linked to and turning the wheels. Telling us that F1 cars don't have a stick isn't going to convince anyone that it's not fun.

It also requires an objectively higher level of cognitive power to operate. The minimum IQ required for driving an automatic is significantly less than that required for manual.

Automatics are fine for luxobarges but if I learn that someone is unable to drive stick my respect for that person drops.

Manual provides a more direct application of control over the physical world, which is considered masculine. Being able to exert your will in general is considered masculine.

City traffic isn't even that bad unless you have a performance clutch installed. If your leg hurts from depressing the clutch every 10 seconds you're already 10 hamburgers away from a cardiac event.

>slushboxes have more gears
Maybe, but they have higher drivetrain losses and are more heavy.
>DCT
DCTs with paddle shifterd can be good, but they are shit on most cars since they are slow as fuck and prohibit shifts to low (acceleration not better
If you have a race car like DCT maybe, but not on your average car.

Also dropping 2-3 gears might be usefull on the highway when you want to acellerate fast from ~120km/h.
DCTs can't do that.

>clutch
DCTs have them to...
>synchros
If you drive like a retard they may wear out after 200.000km, if you know how to shift they don't.

>DCT is faster out of the corner
I can shift before i step on the accelerator, a DCT in autotragic mode can only do that after hitting the accelerator.

>racers don'let MPG calculators shift for them
With a manual you can choose between racing and economy as fast as you want.

>Lol y-you're trying hard
Fucking hilarious when you immediately follow it with a rambling novel about irrelevant nonsense trying to justify your obsession with an outdated gearbox.

We're not "trying hard." We're telling you when you're wrong since you Kerri saying wrong things. Don't project your grasping at straws and lack of anything to say on us.

I save about 40% on fuel since i started it...

>Posting from phone fail
*Keep

You said there are zero reasons and I pointed out a few reasons.

I get it though, and honestly it's okay. I understand. It's okay that you can't drive manual, there are youtube videos you can watch. Nowadays you can watch videos on your phone even from behind the wheel. :)

Find your nearest parking lot and master that first gear, buddy. It's a tough cookie at first, but once you have it you'll be confident in your own abilities.

Is Kerri your girlfriend? That's a cute name.

>It also requires an objectively higher level of cognitive power to operate. The minimum IQ required for driving an automatic is significantly less than that required for manual.

My best friend in high school was a nigger. He dropped out freshman year. He failed every class despite actually trying instead of fucking around and smoking weed.

The dude is currently driving an el camino with a stick shift because of his above average intelligence :^)

Still smarter than half of Veeky Forums

For America, anything other than a sports car should be an automatic.

All still true in 2016.

>Manuals are shit, I want two manuals in one box.
This is the level of retard that Veeky Forums has sunk to.

>it's an "americans struggle with basic tasks/ sour grapes" episode

but manual has moar gears and brakes less

>It also requires an objectively higher level of cognitive power to operate. The minimum IQ required for driving an automatic is significantly less than that required for manual.
Lol this is what it all comes down to. Mommy's 19 year old car enthusiasts insist on driving stick because it makes them feel like they're better than everyone else.

I always thought americans were out of breath after a short walk because of obesity, I guess it could be they can't handle both walking and breathing simultaneously.

>amerifats don't understand transmissions: the thread

all of these people sayying autos are better most of them either dont know how to drive them (cant drive them) or they never driven em

Ahahahahaha. I love how these retards were presented with facts they don't like, but can't refute, so they just throw insults in a tantrum.

so angsty they make threads about how much they HATE THIS TRANSMISSION. oh wait.

You get cucked by some fat ass? No wonder you're so mad.

Sorry noodle arm boy but I can jack up a car and lift a wheel unlike your retarded ass.

Auto commuter and weekend manual is goat

>Auto commuter and weekend manual is goat
Wait what? That's my point. Why are you trying to co-opt my argument? Are you so assblasted that you can't even bother defending automatics anymore?

Cvcks these days. Back to the cuckshed with you. Take your automatic hyundai with you.

what a pussy desu

manuals are more efficient (in gear) in 2016
manuals are lighter, simpler, and cheaper to maintain in 2016

>less efficient
>slower
>typically come with fewer gears
you just described automatic

literally all bull shit for at least a decade now. modern autos are FAR more efficient

only when you take multiple gears into account and when there are more than you can get with a manual.

automatics need a lockup to match a manual's efficiency in gear and that just increases the weight advantage.

But it's not you dipshit. Your whole argument was that auto's are worse than Manuel in every way. You're dense.

This shifting on a auto is pretty fun also

Only if it's an automated manual. If it's a slushbox, you have to be intellectually handicapped to enjoy shifting in your shit box.
>inb4 manual valve bodied drag transmission

More efficient at taking off from a standing start... And that's it.

A automatic transmission with a torque converter is basicly a automatised manual gearbox with a torque converter added to it.
Because of the torque converter and hydraulic or electrich actuators to shift you have a heavier and more complex transmission.
The torque converter eats up a part of your engine power, wich gives your car a worse mileage.
Manuls are much more simple from the engeneering perspective than autos, mechanicly more efficient.

If we talk about DCTs and other automatised transmissions, the average driver will get only a small difference in fuel economy and performance.
The better driver usually gets a better performance in a manual gearbox or a DCT in manual mode than with a autotragic since he can chose the gears better than the coputer since he knows what he will do next and wich rev range he wants for that.

Torque Converter Auto
>Comfy shifting (VERY)
>Slower shifting
>Heavy
>More complex
>Power train loss
> Computer dictates when to shift, so economy might be better in the city

Manual
>Can choose what RPM to shift at
>Easier and cheaper to repair
>Light as hell
>Can shift quicker than torque converter auto
>Engaging
>No powertrain loss
>Chosen by hypermilers

DCT
>Fast as shit shifting
>Uncomfortable shifts
>Extremely complex
>No powertrain loss
>Expensive to repair
>Heavy

Choose what you want for a car. Commuter? Torque converter auto. Daily sports car, or budget fun car? Manual. Race car or high performance race car? DCT.

Ending the argument senpai

> Computer dictates when to shift, so economy might be better in the city

Only if you don´t know how to drive efficiently, manuals can be much more efficient than autos in the city if you know how to drive efficient.

Either way manual or DCT are the way to go since a DCT can run in comfy mode if you don´t want to drive a manual and is still more efficient thana auto.

10 years ago was 10 years ago you fucking idiots.
No, I get it. None of you pay attention to anything made past the 90's since most of you are poor eurofags.

In my 2014 car the atomatic gearbox version needs about 10% more than the manual version in real life application.
In real life application you can also gain more efficiency with a manual car since you can rev low and open the throttle wide during acceleration and keep the rpm lower while maintaining speed.

>A automatic transmission with a torque converter is basicly a automatised manual gearbox with a torque converter added to it
Sure, if you have absolutely no fucking idea how either an automatic or manual transmission works. Fucking retard.
Even if you take each respective input out of the equation, they still have nothing in common.
