In one Russia game, I had nearly the same industry score from workers as Germany in 1936 and my industry only really started in ~1880.

I have yet to play WitE, but I'm less interested in the land warfare (prefer naval and air) and even less interested in the eastern theater.

I did get WitW, but it's not very popular and harder to find an opponent for. Plus the turns are each an in-game week when run. I prefer day-long turns.

Depends what you're looking for. If it's a bit more grand strategy I'd say ageod games. For games like these gary grigsby ones here I recommend decisive campaigns.

I have't played it yet, but I've heard good things about Matrix's Strategic Command. It stays high level while retaining a good amount of depth. You won't get lost in the details of day-to-day combat.

As a game that combined a good amount of high-level strategic depth and interesting tactical gameplay, I believe War in thee Pacific is the best. It has land, air, and sea warfare with extensive detail. Although the land combat isn't quite as in-depth as in War in the East, it remains interesting, but the game truly shines through naval and air combat. As Japan, you have the ability especially to make meaningful decisions as to your production and aircraft R&D.

I would recommend a game as the allies against the AI or a human opponent first before trying to take on the far-more-complex Japanese side. WitP is the most versatile of the series.
