Why aren't kids taught basic financial education in high school?

Why aren't kids taught basic financial education in high school?

Something as basic as how to have a budget.

Where do you live? They are taught this these days.

Doesn't guarantee anyone pays attention or gives a fuck, though.

no they don't

by teaching someone how to save, lots of other people lose money
that's what economy is

They arent though, the most my high school had was an AP macroeconomics class taught by some shitty teacher that gave everyone hundreds just for attending

>no they don't

I recall a class where we learned this stuff including how to write a resume, look for a job, et cetera.

>by teaching someone how to save, lots of other people lose money
>that's what economy is

Everyone has access to the internet these days, correct?

Why is it so easy to look up porn, buzzfeed and VICE videos on youtube, but so difficult to google "How to make a resume" "How to create a budget"?

Doesn't Khanacademy and similar have endless free resources on this stuff? Do you really believe it's a conspiracy to keep people uneducated when we're in the age of information where Investopedia exists?

The fact of the matter is that PEOPLE DON'T CARE. You can force people all you want to learn this stuff, they don't give a shit. If they cared - they could google it. Which defeats the entire purpose.

Here, I just googled the words.

"How to create a budget".

Take a look at the first few results, sound any good? Why isn't the Capitalist bourgeois conspiracy censoring these websites?

its not that people don't care, people want to save money and make money

the problem is people want nice things too, they want new jeans, new lamp for the bedroom, new shoes, stereo set,eat at a nice restaurant every week, go to the movies, drink, and basically hang out and socialize.

so there is always a gap between, i want to save money and i want to have things

>its not that people don't care, people want to save money and make money

Oh yes I understand that, I meant in terms of making students learn it in Highschool.

I meant that they DON'T care about that specifically. You can't just "force people to take a class in highschool" and then there you go - issue solved. The issue isn't a lack of information - which exists in abundant quantities.

The US government encourages debt and unnecessary spending.

Because we need this behavior for our consumer society to survive. We are built on debt.

Most asian countries have it in their home economics curriculum.

Graduation requirements for my old high school are:

English - 4 years
Math - 4 years
Science - 3 years
Social Studies - 3 years
Gym - 4 semesters
Health - 2 semesters
Art - 1 semester

Even the electives were garbage. The closest thing they have is Home Repair/Maintenance, but that's just shit like how to mow your lawn and how to fix a leaky toilet.

Home Economics in middle school was just cooking and I think sewing or some bullshit

Budgets are for stupid people who are unable to spend responsibly.

>16 fillings

is she eating pure sugar?

To be fair, modern education barely teach anything

But seriously, how the fuck do you not have anything saved when you have two income streams.

Keep people dumb so they continue to be consumers

America needs debt so people can continue to be slaves to the 1%

>Keep people dumb so they continue to be consumers

Bro the information is everywhere at this point.

You can find all this stuff with a simple google-search. Makes you wonder if maybe these people deserve to be slaves for their stupidity.

holy fuck she needs to brush her teeth

Its beyond me when I was poor as fuck living on $4-500 AUD a fortnight I made an excel spread sheet that counted every cent. Even when I started working full time and was earning bank I gave myself a 200$ weekly allowance for food and entertainment otherwise all money went to my savings account and bills came out from there.

>200$ weekly allowance for food and entertainment
Here's an idiot blowing a bunch of money on stupid shit but thinks as long as he's under his retarded budget it's ok. This is why budgets are dumb.

some people just have bad teeth dna.

I dated a girl that brushed, flossed, used mouthwash, and she didn't eat much sugary food.

She would get like 1 or 2 cavities every year.

I eat a lot of candy and stuff, and I've had like 1 cavity my whole life.

The real question is why are half of this girls teeth falling out of her fucking head?

That kid is just asking to be cucked buy someone with money.

>Here's an idiot blowing a bunch of money on stupid shit

If he's Australian and living in an eastern coastal city, that's unlikely. $200 a week doesn't go very far when you have to deal with the insanely high living costs of Sydney and Melbourne.

More like probably lives in a state that think fluoride in the water is poison and she probably doesn't brush 2 times a day

A large part of our economy and culture in general is built on stupidity, or at the very least lack of the desire to learn.

>by teaching someone how to save, lots of other people lose money
>that's what economy is

Not sure what you mean, but economizing is efficiently allocating scarce resources, which are things, which is wealth. Money is not not wealth. If you think of the economy as money trading hands you'll probably only notice the parts that matter least.

Saving and investing is a critical part of a person's individual strategy to produce more than they consume over their life time, which is what you need for a good economy. Of course teaching people to only save and not invest would be shitty advice.

Not sure how it is now but when I was in school decades ago they taught that stuff in Home-Ec class.

which nobody took apparently.
we also learned it in accounting III, another class nobody took.

>The issue isn't a lack of information - which exists in abundant quantities.

That's true. But a high school class at least forces young adults to encounter the information, and if you want a decent grade, the information will have to be memorized temporarily. Really the only thing they need to retain long term is if they do not do this at some early point in their lives, they will be poor.

I think the problem of why they don't seek the information themselves, why they don't care, is because they don't realize they need it. They think you can get by in life paycheck to paycheck without saving or investing, and investing is only for the elite. And their personal experience would seem to confirm this until they get too old to work and it's too fucking late. They are like a frog in a pot slowly on its way to boiling temperatures.

It's not a magic bullet. We teach algebra and chemistry, how about we teach how not to live under a bridge too?

Because only people who go out of their way to learn these things deserve to have money.

Not everyone can be rich or financially well off

>"The both of us never have more than $200 in our accounts"

Maybe teach a bitch to brush her teeth after sucking it
>she would never make it with kneepads on Veeky Forums

More or less this. Our economy relies utterly on consumption of goods and services. If you aren't buying the latest iButtplug 7 or in the very least a reasonable competitor it all comes crashing down. The failure of the modern era is the ability to transfer real wages to a majority of the populace to fuel this consumption.

> 16 fillings all covered 100%

What the fuck kind of amazing dental insurance does she have? It costs me like $4000 to get 12 fillings a couple of years ago and I need 2 implants now.

Medicaid most likely

Education system breeds worker drones. If u understood money then the Koch brothers and Brownback would have a rough time in Kansas raping our education and taxes.

Gotta take the initiative on your own. It's not easy or fun most of the time. But if u treat it aseems a low stress hobby it's highly benefitial

Sadly this. We have fiat currency and not actually money.

Fiat currently has to move or it dies.

America heading straight into a zimbabwe soon...

>Why is it so easy to look up porn, buzzfeed and VICE videos on youtube
Because they do it daily/often enough to give a fuck and there's money in this.
>but so difficult to google "How to make a resume" "How to create a budget"?
Because people don't give a fuck

This. $230/wk in rent alone for an apartment shared with a paki and a huehue. Melbourne is fun, but fucking expensive

She's a nigger

There was the exact same thread on /pol/ and we learned they blow money on weed, XL slurpies and other luxury items. No empathy here.

>They are taught this these days.
Graduated from HS 5 years ago. We had a choice between either the calculus classes that looked good on college applications, or the financial skills class. Guess which one was pushed the hardest on us?

My girlfriend is 37 works a shitty job ,lives in shared accommodation,is in debt with loans (it's like 1k or something which is nothing to me but she's been paying it off forever),keeps going in her overdraft and pays extra money for her bank account for that overdraft privilege,I tried to get her on track but she wouldn't listen ,then she goes and takes out a new phone contract for 2 years.

You just can't help these people they are destined to be poor.

there was a proposal for basic financial literacy class, but some minor party rejected the notion because it would instill (((neoliberal))) values into today's youth

just gas us

Brush your damn teeth bitch

Because you can Google it and 'save some money' isn't a hard concept.

Kids only want it for an easy A

>by teaching someone how to save, lots of other people lose money
i dont think jews are human.

They can't teach johnny how to read and add. What makes you think they can teach him how to read fine print AND do basic math at the same time?

What the fuck is the deal with this guy

He's the next Gino

they Canadian
