What's the best starter bike cc range(i don''t know if this is the way you guys speak)?

100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400 or 500?

It varies wildly
There are 250s that have the power of some 450s
Plus weight is a huge factor
Usually just research before you buy and know youll outgrow it in a season

200-300 is a good beginners area.

I would argue it depends on what kind of bike you're buying. For sport bikes a lower size is better, shit like that

600-750

But a 250 dirtbike would be faster than a 250 sport bike

Displacement doesn't matter that much. Just avoid liters.

Buy a bike based on it's 0-60, 60-0, presence of shit like ABS and a slipper clutch, torque curve, wheelbase, and riding posture. Also make sure you know how to ride before buying a bike.

In other words, don't buy a straight up sport bike. Standard, yeah, sport-standard (ninja 250-650), yeah, sub-liter sport tourer, yeah, GSXR250, no.

And always fucking test ride for at least 30 minutes

...

reminder that honda a shit

DR-Z400

haven't posted in a couple months, how is everyone doing nobody is kill?

How is that wrong?
XR650 is already 10x better stock for stock

...

...

>You mean engines that make power?
>You mean engines that bmw uses?
Yes, exactly those

Comes a horse into a bar
barkeeper: why the long face?

Just me, on the inside as always.

Ez m8

650 Twin (SV650, ER6) and everything below that isn't i4 sportbike.

Kek. Pic is how riding a honduh feels like

the only flaws of DR650 no mods, stock and only dirt-related

>ground clearance
>weight

that's it, hard enduro mod and it blows the XR650 away in any way

125

on a bike you want a high COG you idiots

lol no

It has significantly less power and more weight than the XR.
The XR responds better to mods
Youre delusional

The only one who wants a cock here is you, faggot

>more weight than the XR
literally said that

>XR responds better to mods
not much difference fully modded
also can include performance mods
it has all been done, you don't know anything about the DR

Sport: Sub-1000 staying off 600 and 1000 R/RR classes.
Standard: Sub-1000
Cruiser: literally anything that isn't too heavy for you to pick up if you drop it like a twat

Of course all this is relative to your own ability to respect your machine and learn it responsibly; I started on a 500cc cruiser and am now on a 1300cc that's also 50% heavier and in hindsight would have been able to handle the bigger bike from day one. I also would have probably died or crippled myself in a very expensive, embarrassing way if I'd started on a 1000cc sportbike, however, so keep your own sensibilities in mind.

I kind of want an SV650 because muh torques, but I don't want to have a meme bike. What do I do?

Hi, I know nothing about bikes.
Parents were staunchly against dirt bikes and motorsports when I was growing up, never got to be around them.
Planning to get a license or permit for motorcycles this summer, and to buy a nice dual-sport for riding around the city and just in general.
The bike I was looking at was the Suzuki DR-400. They're pretty easy to find around where I live and I think it's a pretty cool setup.

Good idea? Bad idea? 400 too much? Suzuki a shit?

Everything's a meme here. Except Harley's; those are just for fags, by fags, nothing memetic about it just hard fa[g]ct.

Suzuki DR-400 is an excellent choice

Delusions run high with suzuki fags around here.

If you like slow, heavy bikes.
Go for it

Are you American?

Get the bandit 400
>cheap as shit
>small i4 revving to infinity and beyond
>unbreakable

Dual sports and supermotos are literal god tier learner bikes. itll do ya good.

>no lean angle
>high as fuck seating position

Frigg off Randy

Yes.

get a drz

>>no lean angle
wrong
>>high as fuck seating position
lol manlet

I mean if you're a manlet then high seat is an issue lol

The reason they're good for learners is that they're light, fun and can take a beating. I didn't give a shit about lean angles when I started on my first bike.

But they're expensive as shit here and I don't need a dirt bike

FZ6
FZ07
FZ1
FZ09
All faster and lighter than sv650 shitbike

So when did the harley guys steal your boyfriend away?

>tfw own both pw and DRZ

Get a DRZ400SM

>tfw the pw is the better bike

>doesnt mention fz8

the forgotten motorcycle

It is for playing around in the yard like a 12 year old retard

Acquire shiver

disregard memes

Get a DRZ400. Don't listen to regretful yamaha owners

Go for it! Drz400 great choice, handful of people here own one after owning many different bikes.

To avoid any regrets or toldyasos
Drz is a meme bike get something newer like (dare i say) a WR250 or a beta, husky or ktm

...

ignore my trip from /out/
ive got a 2007 klr 650 and after a pretty good crash during a log hop (went straight in to a tree, bent my bars broke a mirror, broke a wrist, dented my tank, and cracked my cowling, have since replaced the forks, and bars, am satisfied with one mirror)
im going to be buying an IMS tank and a new cowling, but i know the new cowling wont match my other plastics so i have two ideas
>rip off all the plastics, including the cowling, clean and sand them
>take them to a shop
>candy apple red with a good clear coat
>let the tank be black
oooor
>rip off all the plastics, including the cowling and tank (this time get it in the "natural" colour
>put a strip of tape along each side of the tank vertically
>get everything done in a nice candy apple red, no clear coat yet
>put the tank on the bike
>go to gas station, peel tape, start filling up
>every gallon, put a little black line
>once its full carefully go home
>take everything back to the shop
>clear coat
>now have fuel level indicator
inputs or advice
>pic related, bike after i got new forks

seconded
my regret is starting on a 1983 kawasaki ltd550 instead of buying a crf250 or dr-z400
but now ive got my klr650 and regret not getting a dr650
seat height doesnt matter if youre smart
>getting on
>kickstand down
>left foot on left peg
>use it as a stepping stool
>throw leg over and tip the bike, catch it on your right foot
>kickstand up
>from one foot down start rolling
but skiddums how do i stop?
>put your left foot down when youre down to first and about to stop, only have one foot down
its not hard to ride a tall bike unless you insist on flatfooting constantly, which is stupid
some of the top dirt bike and enduro riders are under 5'6'', but they dont complain about their high seats on their 300-450cc full size dirt bikes
i'd agree, you either have a shitbike, memebike, or fagbike, no getting around it, ever
sometimes you have all 3 at once

>tfw when you had a pw when you were 6

But they're i4s, and I don't want to rev to 15000 to start from a red light

And the FZ6 is said to have an on off kinda throttle

I don't think a solid black tank would look good with red plastics.
option 2.

You should go where you came from

All of those engines are tuned for low end power you pleb. They're sport nakeds/tourers they arent supersports.

The fz07 is 2cyl and the fz09 is 3cyl

>candy Apple red
Ameriboo detected

seth meyers is a faggot

The shitty klr basically gave It away

But he voiced shrek

yeah
it is a POS but its my POS

>dbt use to be ruined by gs500 meme
>Now it's dr meme
Can't we have 1 proper thread?

>proper
start with adding a Z

tfw bent triple clamps

wr 125

wow gj correct.

lol ktm

ouch
im lucky i only bent my forks (to my knowledge, they might be bent, but i cant tell, id need someone else to ride my bike)

>new tripfaggot

honduh

well I've attempted to bend them back and they seem pretty close to straight now. I'm going to finish putting the bike back together tonight.

A used triple tree assembly itself isn't that expensive. It will be a pain in the ass tho because I will have to change the bearing again if I buy a new one.

>muh build quality
>muh reliability

Who else /shop/ here

KTM has the best front brakes on the market

by shop, do you mean, huge faggot? i work on my own bike.

brembo*

>breaks
Ftfy

Do you mean front breaks?

I didn't like the front brakes on my KTM. They were mushy no matter what I did. I swapped on a master cylinder from my DRZ and it worked perfectly.

>SUZUKI
What do you think he meant

I've got a 2003 ZX-6R and as I've learned body positioning, countersteering, etc. my corner speed has started to increase. Is a steering damper necessary or recommended? I haven't found a consensus online on how susceptible to headshakes the 636 is. I've never noticed one but I've never really pushed the limits.

...

Question answered. How the fuck did he recover that?

...

>mfw I see people posting bike threads on Veeky Forums instead of just asking their questions in /dbt/

Becuase dbt is a containment board.

Recommendation needed. So in the spring I'm considering getting an enduro. What's the best bike for under $3k? Just want basically a dirt bike that's road legal. I've been riding for a while so I don't need a baby starter bike.

R1150GS

Not really what I was going for. More along the lines of a straight up dirt bike that can have a license plate

DRZ400E

Have lots of money? Ktm
If not, drz

how does Veeky Forums transport doggo?

Oh shit it's macklemore

No, it's his socially retard cousin.

Wr450

Bent my triple clamps back. The front end seems pretty straight now but I haven't ridden it since to make sure it's 100%.
