Ion is the most well-rounded Titan and can engage from any range. She's only limited by how well you can manage her energy reserves.

I think Tone is the most well rounded. Or Northstar if you are feeling punny.

Ion is just kind of there.

Tone is a one-trick pony (get lock, launch missiles) who refuses to engage in close range if she can help it and generally panics if she loses her stationary shield. Ion is comfortable at any range, whether sniping with her Laser Shot or alpha-striking in close range with her Splitter Rifle, plus her Vortex Shield is carried with her.

The 3 round burst fire helps. I agree that Tone prefers mid range though.

I think Ion is pretty weak at range. The laser doesn't hold up because it can't really bw soammed as far as I know.

I have no clue what you said. I just know that Ion's Laser Shot is good at chunking Titans, especially if it's a crit and shaves at least an entire block of health in an instant. Plus, the laser is small, meaning it can fit through the narrowest of corridors and angles.

I am saying Tone does well at closer ranges because of the 3 round burst option it has.

I am saying the laser doesn't make Ion good at long ranges because you can spam it. It might chunk a third of their health, but unless you can spam it 3 more times rapidly, that is pointless.

Almost. A block of Titan health is 2500.
A critical hit from Ion's Laser Shot is 2100.
Three crit laser shots would leave a Stryder with slightly less than one half of a bar of health left.

It can. Just know that using two Laser Shots in a row will instantly drain all your energy. No energy means no Vortex Shield or tripwire, and no shield means you're defenseless.

Ion, Tone and Northstar have female voices.
Scorch, Ronin and Legion have male voices.

Ion, Tone and Northstar have female AI voices, hence they're referred to as female.
Scorch, Legion and Ronin have male AI voices and are thus male.

Can't ion keep using splitter mode rifle even when no energy?

Yes. So if you're going to be using the Splitter, blow your energy on your abilities first, then use the rifle.

Energy management is strictly Ion's gimmick. When you're inside Ion, there will be an energy bar that runs down the left side of your HUD. All your special abilities (Laser Shot, Splitter Rifle [RMB], Tripwire, Vortex Shield) cost energy to use, which refills over time. Ion has no cooldowns, but each ability costs different amounts of energy; if you run out, you can't use your other abilities. For example, if you hold up your Vortex Shield, it slowly drains energy. When it's completely empty, the shield dissipates, and you need to wait for more energy; you can't use your Laser Shot or Tripwire in the meantime because you just used it all putting your shield up.

The only things that don't cost Energy to use are Ion's Plasma Rifle (her non-zoomed primary), her Laser Core, and her dashes (which are managed separately).

This is why one of Ion's better kits is the "Tripwire is free" kit. No energy cost when dropping the tripwire frees up her energy to do other stuff.

Again, the energy system mitigates the fact that Ion has no cooldowns.

Same way you use Scorch in general: always flank the enemy and box them in so they have no way out. Either they have to walk through your thermite gas traps to get out, or they take an Erupting Burning Finger to the face.

Unlike the other Titans with Abilities on cooldown, Ion's use of abilities are limited by how much energy she has.
The energy regen rate takes about 12 seconds to go from 0 to 1000 energy.

Laser Shot consumes 500 energy and requires 500 energy to be used. It has no cooldown of its own, you'd simply need to wait about six seconds to regenerate enough Energy.

Tripwire consumes 350 energy and requires 350 energy. It also has a 10 second cooldown.
As the name suggests, Zero Energy Tripwire lets you use Tripwire for free, so the only limit is the cooldown.

Vortex Shield is a little iffy because its game logic is tied to the frame rate. At 60FPS, it lasts about eight seconds. If you let your FPS go higher or lower, Vortex ends up draining energy faster or slower respectively.
If you have even a little bit of energy, you can raise Vortex shield for that little bit.

Rifle's Split mode consumes 30 energy per shot, you'd go from 100 to 0 after 33 shots.
Splitter Rifle may consume energy, but it can still function with 0 Energy.
If you have Refraction Lens equipped, the energy drain per shot increases to 35, so you'd hit zero after 27 shots.

So I have taken the advice I got here a few weeks ago and slowly made it through the story on the hardest difficulty, I've since Platinumed the game on PS4 and want to get serious online. Where should I start? I loved Ion in the story and Scorch but I fucking suck as Scorch online and haven't tried any other Titans yet (only played 3 online games). Also have no idea what weapons to use.
The L-Star carried me through the singleplayer but all I hear about is how shit it is in multi, so I have no fucking clue what to do.

Just play a bunch and see what works for you. Keep in mind that you have to use a weapon in order to unlock its mods (extra ammo, speed reload, etc), so just keep at it until you get the mods you want.

Just feel it out. Play around with every weapon until you find some you like, and really even though the L-Star is considered sub-par if you like it and can make it work then go for it. It'll take some time, but keep at it.

Yeah that's why I don't want to go ahead and waste tonnes of time on a shit gun that needs to be shelved after I unlock everything on it and learn what's actually good.

I'm going straight for that grenade launcher as the anti-titan weapon but not sure what to use as primary, I also like burst rifles coming from Destiny but I don't think the Hemlok(?) is actually good either. I do like that electric SMG though, Volt is it?

yeah i finally tried it out myself with cold war last night and it brings gstar cd down from something like 18 seconds to 11 seconds. so far its been worth it vs health regen kit, as long as i go fast and minimize damage i take.
its pretty nice having a gstar almost always ready to pull in pilots

Only reason I used the L-Star so much was because on the hardest singleplayer difficulty the only option was to disintegrate/explode people because they killed me in like 3 hits. I'm not actually sure playing on that difficulty WAS the best advice because it just taught me how to be campy and scared, definitely not how multi player seems to play like.

The Hemlock is the game's only burst rifle, but it has greak killing potential once you master it and can land a full burst on an enemy.
The Volt is arguably the best gun in the game and was the only gun nerfed in the Angel City patch. It's hitscan, is absurdly accurate in almost all circumstances and does very good damage. It's one of /tfg/'s "cancer" weapons because of just how capable it is.

Natively, no. Scorch and Legion, as the two Ogre-class Titans, do not natively have a dash. That said, all Titans can equip the universal Titan kit that gives them an extra dash, so you can equip your Scorch with one dash.

I'm pretty sure Volt is projectile. Not that it really matters considering how fast its bullets move anyways.

Oh I had no idea Volt was so OP. Literally all my opinions come purely from my Singleplayer experience.

I'll just give all the guns I like a whirl, namely Hemlok, Volt, L-Star and that 'scout rifle' gun. Pretty much just trying to carry over what little skill I had in Destiny.

The Volt was nerfed in the Angel City patch to do less Pilot damage, but it's still an amazing gun compared to the competition.

How is he gaining speed from touching the wall when it usually resets you to 31 kph? (15 seconds in)

You speed up slightly when you first touch a wall before your speed levels off during the wallrun. Immediately kicking off during that short acceleration lets you keep that speed, or at least most of it. One of the game's loading tips directly talks about this: gaining speed via short wallruns.

With all the talk of MP DLC, would anyone else like some SP DLC? Respawn has some of the magic of the CoD titles till around 4 going for the single player, and a few side stories or even a campaign showing the battle for Typhon from various fronts would be neat.
