Yeah, I managed to sneak around back and pick off a few of them. Chased a guy around the corner though because I knew he would be reloading. That's when I got filled with lead.

Make sure you're hitting the chest and head. It's very easy to hit the arms instead, which take little damage.

They can hear you move and respond. It is perfectly possible to flank around etc, they just aren't stupid. Make noise running, going through brush, reloading etc and you'll get caught

Couldn't be arsed to find my discs so I downloaded CoP from the repo, but it doesn't work with Call of Chernobyl apparently. Is there something dumb I can do to get around it?

Depends what you read last? My last update was reaching Rookie Village, more has happened since then but no greentext yet.

AA2 isn't a good first run mod. It adds detectors to SoC which has artifacts in random locations. You'll miss out on most of them. The best artifact in the game, Urchin, is in a location where it can't even be detected by the gear you have when you first encounter it.

Play it or AMK Autumn as your second run.

Best vanilla clear sky stalker experience that works great? almost finished with amk aurora going on a spree completing all the games.

After what happened, I felt a little cheated. But I guess Monolith had to have their day, there wasn't really going to be any stopping them in the end.

I kept watching for a while after that, the storm subsided and the sun rose on a body filled Rookie Village. The few Monolith that did survive didn't stay, they had left as soon as the battle ended.

Based on what happened I'm certain there is something in the code to cause this kind of event if you survive in the Zone too long. I've never seen anything like it before.

It was a fun time though, that's for sure. Kind of wishing I had backed up the save.

The AO+SRP merge in the repo is a very good vanilla-ish playthrough. It fixes all the main problems with base CS: bugs, weak guns, bullet sponges, grenade spam, etc.

The biggest deviation is in how it handles stashes: it chose to use the pre-filled stashes option which breaks the economy very very quickly. Sad that user didn't choose to make it an option as in AMK Autumn. But you can play CS more like a shooter with atmosphere rather than survival.

No SRP? No dice. Dynamic HUD really really needs better mask overlays. Did you add STCS weapons to the shoot effects list? The CoP merge was lacking them.
