That wasn't a thing until recently. Mazda has never openly embraced the LGBT community. Subaru meanwhile not only advertised to them, but rewrote their company policies to include benefits for same sex partners, sponsored pride events, partnered with LGBT organizations like Rainbow Card, and donated millions of dollars to HIV/AIDS research so as to help the LGBT community regardless of whether or not they bought a Subaru.
The only other companies to openly do this are Ford and General Motors. Subaru was the first to do it transparently and consistently. They still do it. Making one gay-friendly ad does not mean they're accepted by gays.
