First I tried Scotland and got wrecked by the English. Then I played England and formed Britain while also cutting France in half, with the help of Castille, and getting a PU over them in an event. Got bored of that then and started a new game as Brandenburg this weekend. Going to play this one out because it's quite fun being sandwiched between Poland, Denmark, Austria and France as a Protestant. I'm currently trying to appease the Russians and Ottomans before Austria breaks our tenuous alliance.

Anyway enough blogposting. How would I go about forming the HRE? I feel like it might be fun, if challenging. Do you just have to keep fighting wars to release nations or is expanding outwards and adding provinces a better way to go? In all my games so far ive only ever seen them pass the first reform.

You mean farming Imperial Authority? Generally you need to keep making people release their Unlawful Territories, adding provinces then immediately releasing them as minor states (the smaller the better), etc.

HoI3 is much more of a wargame. Vicky 2 is more all around and stronger on population breakdown / economy.

I don't know. France took forever to surrender when I had the entire Northern half of it aside from that fucking maginot line. It had been cut off for half a week yet the units there were still in supply and single divisions stood defiant against multiple corps.
I just threw the speed up to max for a week until their national unity dropped enough for capitulation.

HoI 3 doesn't require learning, the AI can't play the game at all. You can literally win without building units.
