First for you're not going to make it.

>tfw you're making a high octane TURN BASED game
they'll never see me coming

youtube.com/watch?v=KxGRhd_iWuE

youtube.com/watch?v=bNzYIEY-CcM

find me better video game music

metanoiadev please settle down

How do animation events work in Unity? I have a function that works fine if I set it to be called on a key press or something, but if I set it to be called in an animation event it fucks up.

Taste is subjective. However, I feel this is superior.

I wanna look at some shit game dev code

no, I haven't made anything yet

I'm gonna learn Japanese

>Metanoia
>Turn-based anything

Someone's telling lies on the internet. It's a point and click adventure game, not a TBRPG or whatever.

...

--> P R O G R E S S ADDED JUICE

>Crates can drop hp

>Locked door & key, locked room is hidden

>telling lies

Show me where on the screenshot the high octane turn based whatever touched you

Anyone have that yanderedev (i think) picture with all the strings instead of enums

no remix allowed. only original music, must have shipped on the original cartridge/disc.

Why was the light that none of deserve ?

>an obvious exercise to use the for loop
>make a fucking huge if-else
>it doesnt even go for all numbers, only up to 10

I would give it a 0.

What did he mean by this?

>taste is subjective

Yes, however Chrono Trigger objectively has the best OST. It's a fact.

Yet, if I would really have to post something:

Phrase your fucking quesiton better. Her answer qualifies.

So... what should I do if I want to become a vidya music composer?

I mean, I'm working on kinda songs to showcase what I can do to put on soundcloud, but I mean... if you devs were looking for music for your game, what criterias would you use to pick this guy over this other guy?

Should I first make a few songs for free just to have something to show people, or never ever work for free?

this isn't bad code, it's just really hard to read
though i guess its possible that it really is bad code because to be fair i cant read it

This person wouldn't know about throwing exceptions

what's the best free software for pixel/sprite art and animation?

Too many game composers have nothing but chiptune on their profiles.

If that's all you want to make then fine, but don't assure people you can make other stuff and expect them to believe you

MS paint

wow i love grandma
what language is that tho? is it made up?

Microsoft Paint

Just going off the fact that Nier, to date, still has taken home the most awards from its soundtrack that I'm aware of I think it's got the 'critically best' OST. I dunno how we'd measure objectiveness on the matter of subjective taste though.

why would anyone do this to themselves

pcgamer.com/behind-the-music-interview-with-super-meat-boy-composer-danny-baranowsky/

Aseprite if you know how to compile software

There's a bunch of made up languages in Nier, yeah. It's all gibberish except for the very rare actually english track.

Part of the game's themes is lost civilizations, and so lost languages. So we get tracks that have vocals for languages that are meant to sound like languages that exist in the world -- but which we can't understand.

8 second turns son no better way to get the andrenaline pumping

Just you wait

Thats seriously my favorite reaction image and it sucks its hard to use.

Here's how I do trains in my game

reminds me of pyramid head

hey jw how is it going

Line 1300

github.com/CRYTEK-CRYENGINE/CRYENGINE/blob/release/Code/CryEngine/CryPhysics/livingentity.cpp#L1300

>\n
fucking disgusting

Actually, better put, one of the game's major themes is miscommunication and the inability to understand other people's points of view.

thank god i'm not an engine dev

step function is 800 lines long..

created the first special attack for the game

actually MS Paint

I feel like this is somehow profound.

>Xenko STILL not listed under engines in OP

baka desu

youtube.com/watch?v=q0x4Kw_y4fg

MS Paint

Alternatively MS Paint with layers, aka Paint.net

This is sick as all hell.

COMFY GAME IDEAS

GO!!

this is like someone writing Java with C++ syntax

A sailing management game where you navigate the world discovering new frontiers

A game that makes you captain cook basically

The take away from that article is "be a part of the San Francisco indie circlejerk".

A game where you just get off school for winter vacation and have to manage your comfort level while playing games, and maximize your time while wrapped up all snug as a bug in a rug

So is the sound effect I'm supposed to be imagining "ORAORAORAORAORAORAORA" or is it "ATATATATATATATA"?

damn son, \looks exciting and unique.

you did this son? you made this?

Looks more like the second because he does a lot of rearing back to do the "WUTAAH" big punch.

>python 2.7 doesn't have enums
that's what I get for using a beginner language to try and gamedev

how much performance is lost doing string lookups as opposed to enums? If you're doing a couple thousand string lookups is the performance difference important?

>using a game engine to make a "game"
Ahahaha how is that mod going?

slowly getting there.

Stealing this

Profile it yourself.

How's that language you're using which is just a way to let babbies avoid having to code in assembly?

>python for game programming
don't do it.

>the state of Python

Hey lets just skip to the butterflies alright?

Python isn't designed with performance as a primary concern in mind.

>tfw learnt blender
>tfw every AAA company wants maya experience
looks like im an indy dev now

artstation.com/jobs/jmgo

You give me too much credit, this idea is way too basic for using it to consider it stealing

Good luck though

thanks guyz

why not both

ya

Job doesn't require maya specific knowledge. Just requires you to have the ability to do the job - which means you'd just have to demonstrate that you can make tools for the modeling software you're using right now.

Maya experience's not a hard requirement, as outlined below.

Just like programming languages, once you learn 3D modelling as a concept, switching between software doesn't take much time

Why don't you just, you know, use integers instead of strings?

Should I buy Hexels or Aseprite?

(Hexels: A E S T H E T I C S
Aseprite: Functionality)

Hexels are a meme. Better give your money to a good cause, which is Aseprite.

Hexels looks EXTREMELY limited in application. I understand why it's tempting, but I really do think it'd be a waste of money. Aesprite I don't know anything about.

>paying for an MS paint skin

Just download GIMP (Green Is My Pepper)

ill be sure to write that on my resume ;)

>Get bored of main project
>Make shitty shooter prototype in a day
>It's already more fun to work on than main project
>Have to get to content creation, refactoring, and polish
>Bored
I think making shitty prototypes is just more fun than working on something for real because I'm lazy.

MSPaint can't do 80% of what Aseprite can.

Honestly this book is pretty disappointing. It's way too high level in some parts where you want more in depth stuff, and then it goes super in depth and even gives code samples for shit like how to swap endianness or read from a high resolution clock.

When im in the interview ill be sure to let them know that their job opening doesnt require maya experience ;)

Have you ever interviewed for a job before..?

Yup, it's a well tread behavior pattern at this point. Making a prototype, going "welp, I've proven the concept, now comes all the work and fine tuning", and moving on to the next prototype. That's why the meme of "oh he's working on a side project his main project is dead" exists and is more often than not correct.

>I'm just going to walk in assuming I know everything about the job from the job posting, including how important some parts of it are compared to other parts

You haven't landed many jobs have you?

yeh and they almost never hire people if they arent comfortable with the tools and workflow of their studio
