It's just sometimes if I stop to pick shit up I get lapses in vaal spark and have to self cast some. If I don't pick up at all I can go fast and kill everything without stopping and then run back to pick shit up. It seemed more efficient, but I really have no clue

Pick less or more efficiently then, I learned to forego loot after playing flicker strike.
Backtracking always felt like a huge waste of time to me, but do what you feel best.
