Why does Europe not buy American cars? Not even sports cars

they're generally a lot more expensive in europe in comparison to other cars than they are in the usa, and most have to be imported, which means that parts and labor are expensive since no one knows how to work on them.

you can be damn sure that if the mustang gt was priced relative to other cars the same way it is in the usa, they would sell pretty well in europe, but that isn't the case.

The attractiveness for American cars is their cheap power and value for money. Because of the fact that the price is upped by thousands of euros or more on say, a ford mustang, means that they are no longer cheaper than the competition and therefore objectively inferior when compared to say a bmw m3 or something similar.

As for ordinary cars, luxury cars, and utility vehicles, I'm sorry to say this. but Europe does it better and like with the sports cars, american imports don't have a value based advantage and aren't designed for the european market.

The market is big enough already plus American cars have pretty bad build quality problems. Chevy Suburbans were exported briefly but sold poorly since all the interior trim parts didn't quite align right and local offerings were cheaper and more reliable. It might be more of a GM problem and an American built problem but the damage is done.

American cars are just too unpractical for people who want a car for practical reason. Especially the ones that aren't sport cars, they cannot compete with small locally-build japanese, german, french or even fucking romanian cars.
But that is also why there is and has always been a market for unpractical things like the muscle cars, the landbarges and the fuckhuge 4x4. Because if you don't care how practical your car is and want it because it's fast, fun, beautiful or any other reason, then an american car that qualifies is as valid as any other. It will just be a bigger expense but if you can pay for it, why the shit not.
That being said though, it looks like somehow, the trend for big SUVs and using 4x4 as roundabouts has created a market for Dodge, at least here in France. It's sort of an alternative to the Land Rovers. I'm not really sure why, might have something to do with pricing or with the Land Rover getting an image as soccer-mom cars now and dudes wanting to appear more manly in comparison, I dunno.

We buy Fords. Mondeo, Focus, Fiesta. Don't really think of them as American though.

On top of that there is the new ecoboost engine and a 2.3 pays WAY less taxes then the old V6 and obviously the 5.0 V8.

Having the 2.3 option also allowd dealerships to get sales out of the 5.0s in display. Were before if they had one on display they either sold the V8 or sold nothing they now can redirect people interested in a cheaper alternative to the 2.3.
