No they didn't, starting with the 8th gen.
The 8th gen Japanese Civic was much more closely related to the American Civic. The body and suspension are completely interchangeable.

The European Civic, like the FN2, were built in England, the rear suspension was unique to that market to make it cheaper to produce in Europe, and the body and styling was completely unique to the European model
