Just how bad would old muscle cars be on twisty European roads? Are there any simple mods that would improve the handling?

t. europoorean who would love to own one

Nothing that being a skilled driver cant fix, although i doubt that's an option for you.

wow, salty

In stock form, a vintage muscle car won't be as much fun as a Miata trough the bends, but hey, muscle car, so you'll probably have a smile on your face anyways.

Back in the day though, people knew how to modidy them to work, even on racetracks. Nowadays, if you want a muscle car with great handling, go look up Pro Touring and all it entails. Styling-wise, it's shit, but the idea of modernising a muscle car to be fun on twisty roads is fundamentally good.

wow, rude...

It's not worth it here anyway.

Take a trip to the USA and rent one

Size is more important than slightly better or worse handling in my opinion. Driving ain't fun if you constantly have to check whether you're in lane or not because your car is so fucking wide. Just get a Mustang or Falcon or Nova or Dart or Duster or something.

It'll be fine. It's not like they're on ice or anything it's just that they are unrewarding to push into a corner. Drive relaxed and keep the liberal use of the loud pedal to straight ahead and you're golden.

mucle cars usually have enough torks/hp to rip it at low rev while launched, so getting a bit of controlled oversteer would defo make you able to take the turn faster.

fpbp

>plymouth gtx
>wide
found the euro

I've seen some luxury Caddy from the '80s irl and compared to Opel Insignia there wasn't any difference. I even dare to say that Insignia was bigger because how bloated modern cars are today.

Yes, but as I said it's unrewarding to do so. Think of it like work and play and trying to hustle old muscle cars through a corner is more like work so you'd just rather not do it.

Americans have tight, twisty, bumpy back roads too you know.
Muscle cars aren't best suited to them but you can get by.

well they drive like shit the US so I imagine it will be awful in Europe

youtube.com/watch?v=DVF0_f6fdsA
You can see on the Galaxie (first red car) that it still has its stock rusty leaf springs.

Also just watch shows & movies.
Smokey and the Bandit and Dukes of Hazzard are pretty much real life proof that these bench racers don't know shit about how muscle cars behave.

Cars with a heavy ass and bias tires are drift machines.

>Yes, but as I said it's unrewarding to do so.
Frankly, that's just an opinion.
OP won't know if he likes it until he does it.

so the fact that they cant handle means they handle

k

also lol if you think that Galaxie is stock

It's hard to get a FWD-jockey to understand the temperament of a large wheelbase car with a lot of horsepower and a flat torque curve.
But continue to ignore all evidence so you can feel better about owning a Shitvic.

this guy knows whats up

>also lol if you think that Galaxie is stock
Obviously it's not stock but you're blind af if you can't see the leaf springs.

they drive like shit

keep denying facts due to your feelings

nope.
Lmao post shitvic i wanna see the rice pouring out of your exhaust.

leaf springs mean nothing
theyre not stock

yeap
lmao post barge I wanna see the burger grease pouring out your exhaust

>leaf springs mean nothing
It means it's still based on a crude setup

The fact of the matter is these cars were built at a time when a good chunk of back roads were unpaved, the spongy suspension setups evidence enough.

I asked first.
I know the pain of seeing people with cool, better cars but then i got a job and bought one.
Those grapes sure are sour huh?

youtube.com/watch?v=Rs2KOWkydtU
Now watch a 40 year old stock (besides the tires) challenger roast an SRT-8

>>leaf springs mean nothing
>It means it's still based on a crude setup
this is you running out of arguments

Nope.
I'll run out of arguments when someone proves Dukes of Hazzard was 100% CGI.

Corvette still uses leaf springs
that Galaxie is stiff af too

nothing stock about it stop moving goalposts

leaf springs arent inherently bad its all about the setup

stock muscle cars are shit

that 340 isnt stock either at the very least it has a race optimized tune

there was no impressive handling in Dukes of Hazzard

>that Galaxie is stiff af too
Yes, it was pretty slow on the corners, that wheelbase isn't doing it any favors either.

>nothing stock about it stop moving goalposts
All i said was it still has the stock leaf springs, nothing more.

>that 340 isnt stock either at the very least it has a race optimized tune
Race optimized "tune" was the six pack, which could be ordered on any car back in the day. That car is factory.
The thing is though, it doesn't weigh 4000 pounds.

>there was no impressive handling in Dukes of Hazzard

Waiting for your video where you've done better.

Good enough to hold a stage record at Monte Carlo from 1964 to 1984 when it was finally eclipsed by a Group B quattro

youtube.com/watch?v=0SmwoZXkbcE

Man, Falcon is sexual.

except it probably doesnt have stock leaf springs lamo

>Race optimized "tune" was the six pack, which could be ordered on any car back in the day.

wrong
and
no you daft nigger not the parts the tune do you not even know the basics of modifying a car

most muscle shits were shit untuned

>Waiting for your video where you've done better.

irrelevant to the topic

wow learn to argue instead of just looking stupid
and lose to Mini Coopers and never win any event

>wrong
Nope.

If you bought a 340 six pack you got an engine designed for racing.

>no you daft nigger not the parts the tune do you not even know the basics of modifying a car

Oh i'm sorry, show me the crystal ball that shows you the ported heads.
I'll be here all night.

>irrelevant to the topic
So basically, you can't drive better then professional stunt men. Thanks for clarifying.

Yes
An unbalanced car that wants to spin out at any application of throttle, that can't stop for shit, and can't enter a corner with speed for shit DRIVES LIKE SHIT

Fun to drive does not mean good handling
They handle like a fucking dog
I don't think you've driven any kind of car at all yet you call other people bus riders Lmao

>he thinks parts = state of tune

AYY LMAO

get back on the bench fucktard

>An unbalanced car that wants to spin out at any application of throttle
So do like >so getting a bit of controlled oversteer would defo make you able to take the turn faster.

>They handle like a fucking dog
Not in my experience.

>doesn't know how ordering a car in the 60's worked
>continues to echo salty Veeky Forums-memes
We get it, you're butthurt because you can't have a nice car but that's no reason to drag everyone else down.

Still waiting for evidence about this omega-race car tune

You can't alter the "state of tune" without changing parts. The "tune" (which is a different thing) refers to AFR and ignition curve. A race optimised "tune" without changing state of tune won't make much difference. It will be pretty similar to a road "tune".
i don't know if I should be correcting you or the other guy, I just wanted to clarify those two things.

haha this guy is legit retarded or just a troll

because you cant adjust carbs and timing without buying new parts

protip those old muscle cars werent very optimized from the factory

for all you know it could be dialed in on race gas

>haha this guy is legit retarded or just a troll
GG thanks for conceding.

>because you cant adjust carbs and timing without buying new parts
You're not doing much to a six pack retard, if you want more power out of a six pack engine, you buy a different carb.

>protip those old muscle cars werent very optimized from the factory
Keep digging your shitty hole deeper.
It was obvious you don't understand how cars were delivered to their customers but you continue to prove you don't understand the era as a whole.

>for all you know it could be dialed in on race gas
Until it says otherwise you have no reason to believe so.
of course, since you don't know any better i guess i'll be the one to tell you that the 340 engine was built from the ground up to go fast.

It's cool that i'm also the only one posting a shred of evidence ITT.

lol

trying so hard to look like you know something

Wow lmao you describe yourself pretty well.
Still waiting for you to post literally any proof btw.

I know it's a lot to ask for from a meme-spouting benchracer.

Want me to post the video of a charger getting RAPED by a fwd Honda minivan?

>unrewarding to oversteer a car through a corner

Is this Veeky Forums? Are you sure youre in the right place?

Ill post proof when you post it

>not in my experience
What experience? You are delusional dude
I know how old cars drive. You clearly don't
They handle like a dog.

If you wanted to modify timing and AFR in this way you would generally use different parts. The amount of window you have on standard parts probably wouldn't be enough. So different tubes/jets/bob weights/springs etc. Still just minor stuff

Want me to care?
Everyone knows a honda pilot can out-drag some of the larger muscle cars of the period.

Already did, scroll up.

>What experience?
My experience.

>They handle like a dog.
Stop being a timid faggot, the original owners drove these faggots in the rain and snow with shitty tires.

yes but its still the stock carbs
and you dont need parts to adjust the distributor curve for timing

I see no proof

The Honda minivan beat it in autox LMAO
Which means a pigfat automagic fwd Honda minivan handles better than muscle cars kek!!

Muscle cars drive like shit. Period.
This doesn't mean they aren't fun to drive.
You have a very very very skewed idea of what good handling is. Just bevause a car can shred tires with ease doesn't make it good handling. Rather it's an incredibly UNDESIERABLE characteristic!!! I recommend you get learned instead of spouting literal shit and looking like a desperate fool

>I see no proof
If you choose to be blind there's nothing i can really help you with then.

>The Honda minivan beat it in autox LMAO

not surprising, automatic cars were always faster than their manual counterparts.

>You have a very very very skewed idea of what good handling is.
Let me tell you something, if it can make a turn without full lock and slowing down it handles fine.
Even Dad's 62 Impala without power steering managed a turn better than my shiton tC.

You don't realize how adequate they handle until you have to drive a FWD econobox the next day.
Now go back and read this whole thread.
I want you to quote me where i said a muscle car's handling surpassed a modern RWD car.
You won't find it because i never said it, you're free to look ofc.

Every time a muscle car thread pops up all these benchracers start foaming at the mouth in preparation to type out superior memes.

>Just bevause a car can shred tires with ease doesn't make it good handling. Rather it's an incredibly UNDESIERABLE characteristic!!!
This is the exact reason these cars didn't come with 500-600 hp from the factory.
You think it's hard to make a 700 hp classic V8?
LMAO!!!!!!!!1 A naturally aspirated 500 hp 6 liter V8 is child's play these days. Everyone has done one.
but you can't do it to a production car meant for the street with tiny ass tires, it would be a death trap and even then, most were a death trap anyway.

> I recommend you get learned instead of spouting literal shit and looking like a desperate fool
I can't tell you how important it is for you to follow your own advice.
This is why nobody likes you and you have no friends.

to add on to this me and my buddies killed a Chevelle up in the mountains in a RAV 4

it didnt even do that well on the straights

old muscle cars are typically dogs that handle like pigs

Most people who are driving these cars on the street are too afraid to thrash them anyway.
I was stuck behind a 1971 Mustang one night going 5 under the speed limit and couldn't keep a straight line for shit.

No problems if you're obeying the speed limit. Any spirited driving will require some skill of course but it's nothing these car can't do.

youtube.com/watch?v=retkdMZRgkY

ITT: Euro's think their 50hp Twingo's would drop a muscle car on the turns.

Even a modern pickup truck would destroy the average euro clownbox.

Wrong, muscle cars can't turn i don't care if you post proof wrong not stock honda minivan wrong

its funny because no one has any proof that supports them being able to handle well

theyre crap

This.
Yuroshits are delusional.

I'd loooove to see a Twingo keep up to these.

youtube.com/watch?v=Q6WNjunmFGc

Next time at least bother opening the image.

The ability to handle a car like that depends more on driver skill then hardware and E-nannies and you absolutely will never develop that skillset by driving a econoshitbox.

handling is a meme, you just have to git gud.

would be easy

youtube.com/watch?v=p6pCEY2QLpo

yawn

proves nothing what a surprise

muscle is still shit

nope

shit chassis
shit brakes
shit suspension
=
shit handling

just because you get to the point you like the taste of shit doesnt mean its good

>yawn
>proves nothing what a surprise
>muscle is still shit
Wow man you sound just like this guy
Samecunt?

nope

why cant you just prove your point

Jeremy Clarkson said it best

"ALL muscle cars are crap!"

>Jeremy Clarkson Jerks off to pictures of himself in a Jaguar

>Having to check when you are in your lane

Have you no spatial awareness?

>why cant you just prove your point
Why bother when i can stick my fingers in my ears and cry wrong all day long.

You literally think that bevause you don't need to do a three point turn to navigate a corner thay muscle cars dont handle like a dog?

You are a fucking retard and everything you say is stupid
Holy shit

>New Challenger running 14's
Somehing has to be wrong with that car. They should run at least low 13's.
My fucking LS1 Camaro did 12's stock, in 1999.

Also, how did they get so many runs in at PBIR?

yeah thats definitely your mo

except you spew garbage the whole time too

>You literally think that bevause you don't need to do a three point turn to navigate a corner thay muscle cars dont handle like a dog?
Compared to a shitvic which needs to do a 3 point turn to navigate that corner i'd say it's doing an excellent job of making muscle cars look like roadsters.

>Somehing has to be wrong with that car. They should run at least low 13's.
They weigh literally 4000 pounds.

>My fucking LS1 Camaro did 12's stock, in 1999.
Your 99 Camaro doesn't weigh 4000 pounds.
At some point you just need to reduce weight.

nigga ima bout to call u teacher cause u projecting like an algebra class.

>cries wrong all day
>Denies evidence
>keeps crying
>muh minivan
you're basically a textbook case of jealousy.
A university psych class will be calling you soon for practice.

>until you have to go drive a fwd econobox the next day
If I drove a chevelle or oldsmobile 442, then had to drive a renault megane the next day, I would know for a fact that muscle cars handle like fucking dog shit
I'd miss roasting the corners and sliding through corners but they still handle like fucking shit!!! Omg you are one dense cunt

Why would the civic need to do a three point turn?
Stupid fucker

>I would know for a fact that muscle cars handle like fucking dog shit
Except you didn't.

It's funny how on Veeky Forums RWD is the superior platform for handling until the topic of muscle cars comes up and then all of a sudden FWD is masterrace for taking a corner.
I guess you can't expect much from /n/.

>fwd
I dunno

cool

not only are you a whiner you cant even keep up with who you are arguing with

guess thats why you like muscle

neither of you can keep up so you relate

>not only are you a whiner you cant even keep up with who you are arguing with
lel a (you) is a (you)

>not only are you a whiner you cant even keep up with who you are arguing with

guess thats why you like muscle

neither of you can keep up so you relate

Okay hold on, when you say
>not only (x)
and then you only list 1 one thing and move to a different thought...well i mean since you can barely master English it's not surprising your sour grapes are American cars.

Fwd and rwd have nothing to do with this
I am speaking from experience of owning classics for years. They handle like shit. They are fucking fun to drive but they handle like shit. It's undeniable
Civics on the other hand handle great but a boring as fuck to drive

Every post you continue to show you have zero driving experience
Seriously
One dumb fuck you are

its funny because the FWD Toronado outhandled every rwd competitor at the time

stop being such a meming fucktard and youd stop believing such generalizations

lol damage control

>Fwd and rwd have nothing to do with this
Bullshit, anonymous is a contrarian no matter what.

>I am speaking from experience of owning classics for years.
Same.

> but they handle like shit.
Grow some balls and throw it around a corner.

>Civics on the other hand handle great but a boring as fuck to drive

No shit, FWD cars also have the turning radius of a small planet.

>Every post you continue to show you have zero driving experience

Nice try busrider.

>its funny because the FWD Toronado outhandled every rwd competitor at the time

It's funny because a FWD Eldorado is still a boat and a FWD Sonett 3 could run laps around a Toronado.

>stop being such a meming fucktard
wow lol, you first.

>grow some balls and throw it around a corner
I do.. this doesn't change the fact they handle like shit and require to be manhandled to navigate a corner

Do you even know what handling is? Seriously

>civics have shit turning circles
Stop
Fucking
Posting
Omg

>this whole post

>I do.. this doesn't change the fact they handle like shit and require to be manhandled to navigate a corner
puss

>Do you even know what handling is? Seriously
Yes it's something you can't do i guess.

>Stop
Fucking
Posting
Omg

As soon as you stop taking the bus and buy a car friend.

Thanks for the (you)
The truth is i've given up actually arguing a few hours ago, there's no point when faggos like you don't even drive a car.

I'm still waiting for you to post yours btw.
Your lack of proof has me concerned as to whether you actually own one.

>Europeans in charge of flat and perfect handling

Fucking dump trucks handle flatter and better.

youtube.com/watch?v=y7K7m7lJHrc

I think it's clear our mentally challenged little friend can no longer keep up, just like his precious muscle car trying to chase a fwd automagic minivan through a course where handling is the most important factor of performance

>He thinks road holding is handling
Top kek retard

Miata is praised as one of beat handling cars of all time but they want to capsize when going around a corner faster than 30mph

>I think it's clear our mentally challenged little friend can no longer keep up
I'll slow down for you if you need me to.
Sometimes i forget how fast muscle cars can be lmao.

>twisty euro roads
>most are long and straight enough to land a plane on

What the fuck why are europeans constantly lying?

>mfw seemingly no power lines or poles

completely doable in good conditions

hell they can land and take off small fighter jets

>No shit, FWD cars also have the turning radius of a small planet.
It was at this point I realized I was being trolled.

That was the point
The autobahn isn't just a highway
It's a series of emergency airfields

I might as well when people use the word "handling" as if it means anything.

It's too general of a term to explain how a car performs, and every car is different.
Veeky Forums is just /n/ who bought a clapped out Saturn to drive to their job at Walmart.

get decently sized sway bars, poly bushings, and performance summer tires. shelby drop is a demon tweak for fords. If it's good enough for 60s Le Mans racing its good enough for amateur togue cruising.

mfw I own a falcon and someone else knows/likes them

Handling gas nothing to do with how a car performs
Its how a car reacts to driver inputs, the feedback it communicates etc

Muscle cars dont handle well
They handle like shit
