Is this the car that marked Volvo's surrender of their luxury aspirations to become just a premium brand like Audi?

What is S90/V90?

Fuck off,

This thread already died yesterday and rightfully so.

Not really - the 200 series were not exactly luxury' and they were just a 100 series with a new front

The 700 Series was the 200 series with a facelift, the 900 was a 700 with a facelift

the 300 series was a DAF, the 400 was the 300 with a facelift

The Early Volvo's were nice - but never as plush as a Rolls or a American land yatch.

a premium FWD car
The 760/960/S90 were luxury cars, specially the Royal versions, and even more specially the Royal Level III Hermés
my question wasn't answered

According to your logic I guess an A6 is just a "premium FWD car" too instead of the mid-size luxury car it is.

Not quite.

the 700 series has a chopped back (side-by-side comparison shows that easily).

the 700 also has a bendix regina ignition system as an option

700 also has comfier seats and stuff

im thinking about getting a 2007 s60 AWD with a manual for about $6k, one owner, 110k miles. From what i've researched the 07 models are pretty fucking reliable. Redpill me

the 780 coupe cost 45K in the late 80s and had every electronic feature possible, beach burl wood accents and hand stitched Italian leather seats

>FWD-based AWD
I'd get a Mercedes S600 instead
westernmass.craigslist.org/cto/5961654057.html

how reliable are 22 year old mercedes v12s?

Ask a Benz forum I guess.
That said, I don't think there's anything wrong with them except for the wiring harness

>Is this the car that marked Volvo's surrender of their luxury aspirations to become just a premium brand like Audi?

>Premium brand
>Audi

Now this is shitposting inb4 muhh quattro, fuck off with your VW parts bin special

This. The -40 models were basic "car of the people" 4-bangers, while the -60 models were the luxury option, had 6 cylinder engines and all the extras possible. They're still pretty good for a car of the people and better than vws.

How is an overpriced VW parts bin special not a premium car? It's certainly not luxury...

>le audi isn't luxury maymay
you faggots need to fuck off back to plebbit with your dank maymays

WARNING BTFO FWD A4 OWNER

...

ayy saved

found the assmad audi fangirl

found the poorfag furrynigger who talks shit about cars he can't afford

can't afford to buy, or can't afford to maintain?

Anyone can get 8 yr financing these days so obtaining one of these POS's isn't that hard.. Now maintaining one after 2 weeks. That takes some cash

Can't afford to own, as a whole

What luxury aspirations? Volvo only ever had sturdy aspirations.

see >The 760/960/S90 were luxury cars, specially the Royal versions, and even more specially the Royal Level III Hermés

>What is the 960
>What is the V90
>What is the S60
m8 are you serious

That might have been the start of it, but they completely gave up on luxury when they stopped making 6 cylinder models to have only 4 (and 3!!!!) cylinder engines in their whole lineup

>audi

7 series doesn't have a "chopped back" it's a different body entirely. However, drivetrain-wise, it's virtually the same as the 240's of the same era. Also the Regina ignition system wasn't really an option, moreso that Volvo got a bunch of them for cheap and used them alongside the Bosch LH2.4 systems to save a couple bucks.

Isn't the Regina ignition a piece of shit everyone complains about?

the new XC90s are really nice and can make a legit claim to being luxury, including glitched to fuck electronics

>4 cylinders
>FWD based
>luxury
They're premium at best, like Audi. You can't compare them to a X5 or a M klasse

T8 model has a pair of electric motors that power the rear wheels, making it just like the X5 xDrive40e. The next gen M class will probably be the same. Everyone is going to small-displacement twincharged 4cyl because of European regulations, with electric motors driving the rear wheels on the top models. In the next decade or so, everyone's going to go all-electric. ICE engines are on their way out for most applications.

Nobody in the luxobarge market gives a damn about cylinders or drivetrain layout anyway. It's all about interior design, comfort, electronic gizmos, and looking money.

>Everyone is going to small-displacement twincharged 4cyl because of European regulations, with electric motors driving the rear wheels on the top models.
maybe on econoboxes, I don't see MB or BMW quitting on large engines with at least 6 cyls any time soon, no matter the taxes. Taxes are a problem for those who can't afford them, not for the people buying top luxury. Same with Range Rover.

Taxes are a problem even for people who can afford them if they're kikes. The good thing is kikes don't usually buy Benzes. Too much association with the nazis.

...

>and then he said, get this, "audi is a luxury brand"
>he actually said it

but he didn't actually say it, he said "audi isn't luxury" is a meme

>tfw 960

why does literally everything cost $600 to repair.

Because you keep buying genuine Volvo instead of OE parts

>implying it isn't

>FWD
>luxury

>buying OE instead of aftermarket
lmao

>my car costs more than oil, gas, and tyres to own

Do you have a Renault Sandero?

Citroën Xsara Cuckasso
Literally only ever changed wear parts like brakes and belts
Even the clutch still works fine at 255k km of driving like a retarded african

Based France. I still don't know why there's this meme that French cars aren't reliable.

Audi is luxury by ameribetic standards though, remember that according to them more chrome equals more luxury

>4 cylinders twincharged and an electric motor producing 400HP and 472lb-ft together while still getting 50+ MPG city
>AWD
>luxury

Fixed it for you

Have you seen the new XC90 T8? Even just the power train is awesome, twincharged 4 cylinder with an elctric motor.
Since Volvo was sold by Ford to China and they can do what they want now their cars have really returned to actually being good cars.

>FWD-based AWD
FTFY

>T8
>doesn't have 8 cylinders

>luxury
>is actually fwd based

The Mercedes v12 was forced through production to compete with bmw. I would stay away

Nice meme

IDK, but I'll tell you that 70+ year old V12 benzos are still going strong

Yeah parts are far less available and it's not possible to map for turbo without a ton of hassle etc

>T5 and T6 no longer designate turbo + cylinder count

THANKS GEELY

CÜCKED AGAIN
tbqh it's probably the revenge of the Swedish

THANKS OBAMA

Well, everything electrical fails every other day, so there's that.
Electronics are shit, but the moving parts work fine.

I almost meme'd my dad into buying a 2.1TD 605, but the mechanic scared him with horror stories about injectors worth 1k going to shit and then the replacements going to shit again.

>injectors worth 1k
For clarification, 1k each

Still cheaper than repairing a BMW

what a cancerous thread

fucking newfags

>calling other people newfags
spotted the nufag

It might not be luxury but it's certainly better looking than many luxury cars
hnnnnngggg

The electronics do need some work, I would also not own the car out of warranty. I had to replace a part of the computer controlling the car and it was 6k.

B is for Bullshit

only newfags spend their time accusing others of newfaggotry

This was the part, at the dealership the price was show it was around 6k, with labor and what not.

>at the dealership

It's a brand new car, why wouldn't I take it there if it's under warranty?

So the dealership paid for the part because it was under warranty?
Once it expires you can get it serviced elsewhere for a fraction of the price.

Obviously I was just saying with the new volvos I wouldn't own it without a warranty, it's pretty much a giant computer.

>it's pretty much a giant computer
a mainframe, so to speak?

We need him and the t-rex cop

shittt I forgot about dino cop

...

Volvo was a generalist brand with luxury offerings, it was never a "luxury brand", don't kid yourself. Much like Mercedes-Benz.

Volvo was the car for the people, a reliable car that would be easy to fix by the average man if something did break.

Sorta the same idea as commie cars but without the poverty and cabbages.

>easy to fix by the average man
Kek, I have a 90s Volvo and only specialists are willing to touch it

A volvo 850 was my first car, shared with my brother. For a 94 it was pretty good. Leather seats, auto off headlights, remote doors.

>fwd

did you have the FUCKHUEG radio with the CD changer in the trunk? it's pretty awesome

No, I was 16, it wasn't my car, and I didn't care about cars.

That's because most mechanics are glorified lube monkies. Up until fairly recently Volvos are easy as fuck to work on compared to many other cars, particularly eurowagens. Of course now they're total clusterfucks because Volvo have given up on being Volvo.

One of the cool things about the older ones is that every control in the car can be very easily operated while wearing thick winter gloves. That design philosophy has been flushed down the iShitter.

>One of the cool things about the older ones is that every control in the car can be very easily operated while wearing thick winter gloves. That design philosophy has been flushed down the iShitter.
I hadn't noticed it but it's true. Perhaps it's also the reason for the 850 having the window controls on the center console.

this still going on?

i got this '86 760 turbo intercooler this weekend (bought it two months ago but it was in winter storage) although it's in need of some serious tlc it's still a luxxury car

my dd is a box standard 1.6 440 tho so i might be a bit biased

Sunroof in an '86 car, tell tale sign that it's upscale

Got this baby for 9.5k, did I do good Veeky Forums? They go for as much as 12k here in my country

When they stopped selling rwd cars. Volvo s90/960 back in the late 90's was the last true volvos
t.Swede

back ta reddit the post mate. Get out of here with that trash

Spotted the nu male beta bitch manlet cuck

Wouldn't it be when they started selling FWD cars? Now that I think of it, the 850 I posted isn't even the true beginning of it, the 440/460 is. The 850 was worse because it was made to replace the 940/960 though. The first FWD is actually the 480 but it looks cool so it gets a pass :^)

The 400 series were a mistake, just like the 300 series. They are all so ugly, the 480 is somehow kinda cool tho. They should have made the 480 rwd with more hp.

>The 400 series were a mistake
agreed
>just like the 300 series
those are cool in my book even if odd looking, but the 200 series is even odder
>They are all so ugly
I like how facelifted 400 series look
>the 480 is somehow kinda cool tho
agreed, makes me hard
>They should have made the 480 rwd with more hp.
couldn't agree more

>just like the 300 series
The 300 series is at least still RWD, though the drivetrains won't stand up to any hooning whatsoever.
Still, the FR transaxle layout is pretty neat, just like the early FR Porsches. Who knows, maybe it's possible to get an Audi transmission in there with a turbo inline 5 sourced from either Volvo or Audi to create some ungodly hoonmobile.
