What makes a V8 better than a V6?
What makes a V8 better than a V6?
uh 8 is bigger than 6
Nothing
Because they aren't
More power
Better sound
Only slightly less mpg
harmonic balance
/thread
Power if we're talking twenty years ago.
No replacement for displacement
>torque
>sound
>power
basically everything you need if you're a car enthusiast
v6 is for faggots who cant afford a v8
too bad gm can't compete with a TT V6
Bigger is better
Engine balance.
Every other answer is nonsense.
>displacement
Because a 3.0l V8 displaces more than a 4.2l V6
>sound
All about exhaust, most v engines sound the same open header
>power, torque
All about what you do with what you have. A 283 V8 has neither more torque, nor more power than an Accord's V6.
Having a V8 badge increases the driver's sex appeal
Engine balance. Any other answer is a Meme that varies base upon which motors you choose.
A v6 needs balancing shafts and extra weights, which rob power and efficiency. It's the same reason V12 and I6 are God tier.
A turbo 4 can do everything a NA V6 can do.
A DOHC V6 is physically larger than a LS V8.
V8's are cheaper and easier to get power out of.
There's really no reason to use V6's any more except for maybe minivans and old people sedans.
>what makes a full engine better than 3/4 of an engine
everything.
>t. fudd
4 stroke twice in v8.
4 stroke only 1.5 in v6
i dunno, the GNX was pretty fast for it's time.
V6 sounds like v8
>using your shitty newfag name and trip for this
Veeky Forums is fucking awful now.
No
gm fangirls sperging everywhere has ruined this board, lol
>this post will bend asses
>now
but that's cuz VTECCCCCC
>gm fangirls
>implying tripfags are limited to gm fans
I could only hope that was true.
Anyways, I'll be fucking off into the wild blue yonder again. Just thought the board might have gotten a little better, but it's actually worse and full of namefags blogging.
Ty for your time.
literally buttblasted over an id
phenomenal
On a (flatplane) V8, the crankshaft does not experience an imbalanced downwards bending force for every 180* of rotation.
On a V6, it does.
Theoretically, if a V8 and V6 have the same total mass of moving parts, the V8 can rev higher than the V6 without shaking itself to death.
Basically, crossplane V8s are dumb and flatplane V8s are breddy gud.
L6 and V12 are better than both, though.
i permanently triggered many people on this board. it's not going to get better for a long long time.
V6s don't deserve the hate they get. They worse than an alternative at almost everything, but they're better than what you'd probably have if they didn't exist, and it's all down to packaging.
A V6 can be big enough and provide enough power and torque to replace a V8. It's small enough to be mounted transversely in a FWD setup. The compact profile means it can accommodate extra stuff in the engine bay, like turbos, that otherwise wouldn't be able to fit. Sure, it's not as smooth and doesn't sound as nice as other configurations, but it is the best compromise.
Because a manufacturer like Ford can develop one V6 and put it in everything from sedans to crossovers to Mustangs to F150s, they can spend three times developing and refining and manufacturing that engine than they would have on all the other options it replaces.
That means more often, we see new designs and improvements that would otherwise be very long lived, very old designs. We see high tech machining processes that otherwise would be a something built as cheap as possible. We see a V6 where you'd otherwise have an I4, in many cases, which results in a considerable performance bump.
No, a N/A V6 in a sports car isn't as nice as a N/A V8, but that's not really the alternative. The alternative is an I4 that's too small and just lets the whole thing down. The V6 in your Accord was never going to be anything better than a V6.
Sure it gets a little bit repetitive when manufactures slap the same V6 in every car they make, sometimes inline and sometimes transverse, but because of the ubiquity of that engine they're cheap, the parts are cheap, and the performance honestly is not bad.
Seriously. In 2012 a Toyota Sienna, which is a stand in for a boring vehicle with a boring engine, as standard as it gets, made 187 hp from a 2.7l I4. And now, it comes standard with a 3.5l direct injected V6 making 293 hp and an 8 speed auto.
Seriously, boring cars now make almost 300 hp!
Glass packs and cherry bombs are the v8 equivalent of ricer fart cans.
Prove me wrong.
or until we find you and kill you
>my stalkers are sperging again
To give that some context, 10 years ago 300 hp is what you got out of a Mustang GT. That was a big number! Now it's what you get out of a boring minivan. That is incredible. And the thing that makes Toyota (and everyone else is right there with them) put all that effort into an engine that goes in a fucking minivan is that that same engine goes in everything, and does everything.
No, the V6 is not the perfect engine. It has inherent flaws, but the reason we live with them is because it's actually pretty good at everything. It's the go anywhere, do anything engine. And they're cheap!
All hail the V6. The best engine for the real world. The automotive world is so, so much better for its existence.
You can tone down shitposting for a while, in case you didn't figure it out, I cropped and filtered the gun pic a few days ago. Nobody is actually coming to kill you yet. You have plenty of time.
>v6 are slightly less shit than they used to be, yay!
>being this delusional
No one will ever kill me.
V8 is better than a V6 because the V6 isn't an I6, and the only thing better than a V8 is an I6.
