Peugeot 205 1.1

Planning on getting one of these as a first car

Insurance is gonna fuck me in the ass for the first year
£1800 for a 1.1 or £2390 for a 1.4

Is it worth settling for the 1.1 and waiting a year or more or should I just bite the bullet and get a 1.4 I can modify and keep?

pls respond

no u

ouch ;(

damn op u gettin raped in euroland i have the worst possible driving record and i pay less than 100 meridollas a month to drive a v8 maro

im not too knowledgeable of these cars, but atleast make sure to get a car that's atleast fun to drive.

get a 205 gti

a real gti, vw mk1.

I got a 205 XS with 1.4 engine - single-point injection. This was 3 years ago when GTIs were not as a rare and expensive. 1.1 will be driveable, but honestly get a 1.4. However, I regret not getting a GTI for daily driving. I live in Europe, but owning a 1.9 would cost me about 150 EUR in terms of insurance. Probably the same fuel economy, part prices, but way better performance. And 205 GTI is recognized even by many non-car people.

When it comes to ordinary 205: no matter what clothes you wear, how expensive your smartphone/laptop or watch is or what other cars you own, there are great chances people will perceive you as a poor man which might be a problem in few cases. Frankly, I got used to it and not gonna sell my 205

>tfw barely 400 yurobucks fpr a V12 landyacht
>tfw get raped by fuel prices anyway

Maybe look into getting a more modern car. Not saying brand new, but older cars are less safe and easy to steal, plus how many 205s have been trashed by younger drivers.

I'm lucky to live in a low insurance part of the British Isles but I got a quote for an old shitbox micra of £1100 but then £600 for a 2001 fiesta.

I know, it's horrible

I've got absolutely no chance of insuring a gti

The 205 XS 1.4 is the 205 I want but it's the costlier option
I'm probably going to have to just pay the higher premium
I don't really care about the perception people have, my clothes are styled a certain way, I have a nice motorcycle and a decent phone but it's all about how much fun I'm having lol
Also I'm 18, so it's kind of expected to have a car like this at that age

I'm really wanting a 205, cost for the car itself is another concern too

get a 206 or something instead and wait a year or two before getting a 205. or try classic/specialist insurance. don't just rely on comparison sites, phone direct.

also tell them you garage the car at night

I know a guy that became rich mining stuff on the 70s and 80s, yet he still looked and dressed like a hobo, drove a rustbucket
One time he walked into a fancy restaurant after parking his crapmobile in front of the door, and the dude who greets customers tried to shoo him away so he yelled until the owner appeared, bought the place and fired him the next day

He's got his own airplane and still walks around town in dirty shorts and flip flops

Good news boys

Found a quote for £2100 with a 1.4

Just move across the channel to france lad, i'll host ya until you get a job

Even in poor condition, 205 GTI are pretty expensive now. They're also deathtraps for novice drivers so your advice equates to 'OP, try to kill yourself, if you survive make sure you go bankrupt.'

>car gets totalled from hail damage
>insurance doesn't pay

>£1800 for a 1.1 or £2390 for a 1.4

Are you actually fucking kidding me? Do they replace it with a Veyron if you crash it?

Probably best to drive an uncool modern granny shitbox as a nipper in the UK. Get a 1.0 2010 Honda Jazz OP.

>add your mum and your nan onto the policy as named drivers
>say you will be driving in peak times
>say you will have had the car for 2 months already
>say your parent owns the car and is the registered keeper

Run the car through a comparison website and tell me what quotes come up when you do the above. Just interested if it saves you any money.

Also, dont expect to ever be able to do an engine swap, insurance will never let you. so you will be stuck with whatever you get until you are at least 21.

If you cant get the one you want, as much as it sucks, you might just have to say fuck it and get a cheap POS for the first year to save you some sheckels and get you a year of NCB, and maybe just buy a slightly nicer 205 and store it for a year, and fix it up, etc, then drive it when you can afford to insure it. Also, if you dont mind looking at something slightly newer, maybe take a look at a Saxo VTR/S, looks kind of similar, but will be way faster, and probably safer (not that much though)

IDK man, just get whatever makes you happy, dont bother fucking about with shit you dont want just cause you feel you have to, just try not to get jewed too hard doing it.

>save 500 by lying
>the car is only worth 500 so even if the 0.001% chance of death by hail was 100% you'd be even

In my experiance this actually bumps quotes up by a few hundred for some reason (guess cause nice cars are kept in arages, which the pikeys go for, leaving the shitbox on the drive alone)

wierd, my experience (experimenting on comparison sites) was the opposite.
also saying you're cohabiting (not married or single) reduced prices too.

Old cars are more expensive to insure
My 2001 1.4 Golf was 2.2k meanwhile something newer (mk5 1.4 golf) costs like 1.5k
