The last time GM made an engine with the RPO code LT5, they themselves didn't make it. The original LT5 was also a DOHC 32 valve 5.7L 350 Chevy small block. The cylinder heads were designed by Lotus, and the engine itself was built my Mercury Racing.

Sure you can hate GM, Chevy, and America, but you can't honestly dislike the genuinely great engineering of the small block family. No other engine so accessibly and easily allows the same level of performance. Good engineering is just obvious and it's really hard to deny that GM has had a great history of building top notch engines.

I don't know how you can discredit the LS engines for having pushrods. They make more power than comparable engines and are super light and compact. The fact that they weigh less or the same as dohc 4 cylinders, while able to fit in the same space and make 2-3x the power, is all the information that matters.

I'm not OP, but from where Im from (Portugal) if the car is older than 25 years old it doesn't pay taxes. For the cars that pay taxes you can pay like 50€/year if it's a 3.0 diesel but if it's a 3.0 petrol the tax is something like 400€/year, that's one of the reasons people mostly use diesels here

Actually that was a turbo 2.2L I4, and it made 210 hp. By the last generation the turbo four made 300 hp. The V8 was detuned from 500 hp to 350 hp to preserve the shitty glass transmission.

The DOHC is probably coming into play out of necessity. They've proven that the LS and other Small Block V8 series engines can make ridiculous power with add-ons, but in order to keep engine costs down AND get more power out of a factory car, it makes sense to move to developing DOHC.

That, and let's not forget why the C7 Corvette is the way it is. GM is trying to shake off the "old man's sports car" and "blue collar dream" persona of the Corvette line.

They've also gotten really serious about competing with other companies like Porsche. They still have a long way to go but all of this helps explain why the C8 will probably be mid engine and why the LT5 is going to be so different.

They're trying to make a better car, and I have pretty good faith in their ability to do so.

Get a cheap motorcycle and hit those mountain passes stupid burgers will never ever see.
