Should I cop this Volvo 850? I don't think I've ever seen a manual Volvo until this one. Are they particularly rare? Not to say it would be valuable in the future, I'd use it as a daily. Regardless, this guy wants hundreds below blue book.

Go for it. Looks like a pretty good deal. The 5speed 850's are not particularly rare, but are not particularly common

>NA
not all that rare
>"minor" front end collision
>odometer broke
watch the fuck out

>FWD
Would not recommend

Oh fuck off. I don't care. Daily drivers don't need to be rwd.

Literally no reason to own a Volvo other than cheap RWD

funny, because your dumb ass should probably be driving a FWD since you can't even handle a shitbox volvo

stfu furfaggot
DD it until it dies then part out transmission and those OEM turbo wheels, should net you at least $1k
turbo models are more fun and the wagons are more useful
also don't expect good MPGs

>being this retarded
please watch this

now KYS

Or, you know, you can't beat the reliability and safety for the price.

If you show up and offer him less due to the odo and paint/collision evidence you'll walk away with a solid reliable DD.

The odo history scares me though, assume the worst and offer based on that unless he has sufficient evidence of when it failed and how long.

this, also it's a pretty easy fix unless the speedo is broken as well

>leaving any Volvo stock ever

>doesn't deny it's a hipstermobile
kek
and unless you rebuilt the entire top and bottom end then you're only making about 160 bhp with a turbo
similar to the bhp of an NA 850

:^)

>those comments
Lmao

>Definitely a 240 you can see his mustache.
my sides

don't worry about them being FWD. drive an 850 and an RWD 240 back-to-back and you'll pick the 850. it's better.

but from a reliability standpoint, it's not really that great. non-turbo cars aren't that much better than turbos and they're all old. they'll go forever and look as good as new 25 years on, but they nickel-and-dime you if you're picky, and the interiors don't hold up. i fix anything that breaks on my 5spd turbo 99 S70, and it's a lot of fixing.

if you dgaf about little rattles, squeaks, etc, it could be all right. to be honest i think if i didn't fix most of the stuff i fix, the car would be fine. but if little things bother you, don't buy an old Volvo.

either way, 1800 seems maybe a tad high for this particular car. hold out for a better one or get the price down.

The car doesn't even have a stock axle in it, I swapped it out for a shortened Ford 8.8 with LSD
Ayyyyyyyy nice
>nuvolvo 850 better than a classic 240
I don't even...

L O W A B I L I T Y

How is the parts availability? Am i going to have to get shit online for $150 every time something breaks?

OP here. You're asking the real questions for me.

Seriously though, thanks for your help my niggers, I think I'm gonna check it out and offer $1400-$1600 depending on what I find. Premium gas fill ups are gonna suck, but if it means I'm gonna be safer in my first manual car than I would be in a cheaper Civic that crumbles like aluminum foil, I'm down.

rockauto.com and specialty sites like IPD and FCP groton will keep you in new parts
and they're at that age where normies are ready to scrap them over a blown headgasket or turbo
so there are examples in junkyards, and parts from s/v70s will sometimes fit or be upgrades
this also keeps parts costs down vs the 900 or 700 series
>protip: I'm sorry, but Portland OR is volvo mecca
>best junkyards for p80 and p2 chassis
>best parts/ tuning house (IPD)
>giant Volvo dealership
>I may take my autumn vacation there for this reason

>will i have to get shit online for $150 every time something breaks?
my local parts stores carry ridiculously marked up 850 parts
and the rock only takes 3-5 days for me

>based robert does not lie

it will run 87, it legally had to
it will get worse MPG unless you are doing low RPM cruising
I run 91 for DD in my turbo and when I'm taking a long trip i'll use 87
>it means I'm gonna be safer

confirmed

>swedish notes:
*holy shit the manual gearbox is loud
*you need a gasmask b/c 850s have no cabin filter
-protip: they sell the housings for them aftermarket or you can scavenge one off a s/v70
*stock audio system is based
-but needs an anti-theft code entered when battery is unhooked
*turbo has journal bearings, slurps your oil
*models before '96 have different locks that can suck
-wiggle it
*the windshield loves to crack to the lower edges, especially if it is chipped
-strut tower braces can prevent this
*idk babies or something
-they don't even talk about the integrated rear bench fold down booster seat, so disappoint
*something about seatbelts
*protips on how to break into your volvo
-protip: don't keep valuables in your car
-no, really a swede with a hammer and screwdriver and pliers will take ur car
>the big swede list of cons:
*"guttural transmission"
-see video
*"clatter in the front"
-so true, check those motor/tranny mounts and struts
-as well as your sway bar and linkage

*"cracks in window"
-don't put cold water on a hot window
-get chips/cracks repaired FAST
>neat swede trick
have an early volvo 850 with the center hub cap and don't know if it's turbo or not?
look at the lug pattern
four lugs: NA
five lugs: turbo
doesn't apply after 96' i believe
>bonus material: 850 vs v70 review

Which is best 850 or 940?

depends on what you want, they both have pros and cons

Best touge car

940 unless you are shingo shoji
t. shingu clone

I believe the car has been reinforced. No car can survive that many crashes, right? Also no crumple zones, it's like a solid brick.

i'll concede they modified this one, like taking out the radiator and putting in a roll cage and mesh windscreen
>reinforcing a unibody
ok bud
so that's why it looks completely normal underneath when it rolls
>no crumple zones
see

i've got a 95 850 w/ turbo and a fucked automatic sitting in my garage

what should i do with it

I drive a '98 S70 T5 manual.
Buy that car, you won't be disappointed. Parts are plentiful and cheap.

Wat a shit is wrong with my 240? Starts like this, hesitates when in gear, and engine dies if you jab gas. Starts normally with fuel disabled.

dropbox.com/s/ysjagc51ju0dwso/2017-03-16 22.49.17.mp4?dl=0

im not downloading a 250mb file but sounds like your transmission or clutch may be fucked

i don't fucking know m9, i rice computers, not cars

just view the stream, no need to download.

Trans was just swapped, made no difference. Is AW70. When fuel is disabled it cranks normally.

Stupid fucking weaboo, useless.

Sounds like ignition problems if its not that your fuel pump could be going out i had similar problems on my fox

I'm thinking ignition.

Volvo expert guy on forum said that spark is occurring during compression stroke, because of low voltage the ECU is getting confused.

Any ideas?

What's worse though, a furfag or a weeb?

Both are trash

ive never heard of anything like that but if thats how it is with volvos you need to go through your electrical system alternator going bad or bad grounds

>HI, MY NAME IS ROBERT! THIS VIDEO IS DESIGNED TO GIVE YOU STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON COMPLETING THE TASK AT HAND

My car is faster/better/cooler than yours :^)

don't even make fun of RobertDIY he was trained as a carpenter so he can fix your 850 aight?
youtube.com/watch?v=zAkZKBiJh6E
>some of these things may come easier to me than you

repair it
manual swap
buy 240 with blown motor and install T5
part it out

how do you sell a car on CL? It seems time consuming and nerve-wracking as fuck
I just bought it and don't want it, only put 200 miles on it.
Is there any way for me to make my money back?
