for anyone who might have missed it, since i posted this at like 6 am in a dying thread:

okay, without further ado, here's the speedometer mod:

this is a step down from the particle editing (from hex editing down to very simple scripting), but still took some more work than usual to get working. there is so little useful documentation for using squirrel in source, everything is for lua, and i ended up not even being able to get it to work quite how i wanted.
in a nutshell, this will activate and slightly modify a speedometer that respawn snuck into the live fire update. originally it would use metric or imperial depending on whether or not you were you playing the game in english, but that's stupid. instead, it will default to imperial and you can switch to metric by setting "+password "metric"" as a launch option in origin or setting the appropriate setting to "metric" in your client config. this is an annoying workaround being unable to make a new convar in the vscript, respawn seems to have killed the appropriate function, but it works out since the password convar is completely unused and dummied out.
i CANNOT change the way the color gradient works, stop it from fading out, add other units, etc.; the UI script that runs the actual speedometer is inside the RPAKs that cannot currently be opened. so please don't ask.

and, while i'm at it here is a fix to the crosshairs mod to fix the leadwall and cold war's crosshairs:

i can't really tell if this fixes the issue with meadows since i haven't encountered it, so please let me know if it does or doesn't if you get a chance

the one on boomtown is not me playing great. about double jumping, sometimes its necessary with the cold war, depending on enemy distance, so that you dont blow yourself up. i dont think i needed to do it in the boomtown clip, but it has saved my life a few times.

the stim clip is fine until you reverse your direction to kill the guy and set it up to lose all speed as you hit the ground, you didnt look like you were going to slide hop out of it either

nah definitely wasnt gonna slidehop, even though i should have. again an old clip but im pretty sure a scorch was behind me, so i figured i was dead. i guess i should get into the habit of doing it either way.

I didn't realise how fucking good Penatrative Shot is on LTS. I'm hard pressed to pick between it and Viper Thrusters. Its a hard choice to give up speed.

as long as you don't plan to use the core at all, you can use penetrative shot. the core is useless without viper thrusters though

I agree. Core seems to be fucking me about lately, it'll erase two bars then just stop damaging, on target all the time.

It could be me but it seems like the latter half of it the rockets get vastly less accurate and start to sidewind more.
Eitherway stick with vipers cause and take an extra dash and you'll be an ambush king.

This is generally what I run for Attrition. Complex or LTS with chokes I'm more inclined to use Pierce Shot.

I just stick with that in all modes cause then i just zip between covers or lead them down chokes faster than they can chase me leaving behind tethers and clusters while unloading and staying out of cover.
You'd be surprised how man places a northstar can sit that no other titan can and vipers let you get there.

half of the things you describe are due to the fact that your speed determines your melee range
the other half are due to the low-tickrate servers, which is something that does need fixing

no, that's a pretty common occurrence in general
it doesn't matter how good your internet is when you're only sending data out at 20hz to begin with

that is definitely not a thing. pilot melee has a fixed lunge range of about 8 feet and 30 degrees of your view. the main issue with melee is that the tickrate is so low that melee hits tend to not get communicated to the server before you're already dead, and on top of that because the vision check is a cone from the player it's less reliable at close ranges and for some reasons to seem to rarely work at all if you're not in mid-air.

That last kill was on Vaughny, I don't know how good he is though because his vids are cherrypicked as fuck
