Why dont car companies design products with the machanic in mind?
I would pay extra for a car that could be maintained with simple tools.

Because they make more money off people bringing their cars to the dealer than just selling the cars

When you build an entire business model on not making any money, you have to resort to retarded tactics to make up for that.

fixing cars means that people don't have to buy a new car sooner

Yes but they would sell more cars to start with

No they wouldn't. 99% of people on the road don't care about anything under the hood and haven't ever looked under it themselves. They have people to pay to do that for them.

People who actually work on cars don't buy new vehicles.

Well then that makes me angry.
How can we change this?

If it's easier for people to maintain their shit at home, they're not going to the stealership to have their money stolen

Ban women from driving.

We don't, we can't just force interests on people.

well single moms anyway

Honestly we need to worry more about them having the vote.
We would be exploring the galaxy by now.

Easier to work on means harder to manufacture most of the time. Also, car companies do not maintain vehicles, franchised dealerships do, so car companies have little incentive to make it easy to work on aside from keeping warranty costs low, but an hour or two extra on a repair every so often is trivial.

Car companies don't make money from service, because 99% of car companies don't service cars

>pitch your idea to a group of investors
>find some eggheads to help you design it
>get money
>find some metalworkers or whatever to build a prototype
>demonstrate it
>get more money
>start building in small, exclusive, hand-made batches until you can afford to tool up and start mass producing
>watch as all the big league companies copy you with their own stupid-simple designs made to be user repairable
and add a "hope it gains traction" to every step
I'd really love to see something like that too, but it'll likely never happen since the market barrier is just too damn high

build your own car

Your mom makes her own cars

>everything is 10mm
>can't find the fucking socket

>Why dont car companies design products with the machanic in mind?

Who BUYS the cars? The mechanic or the consumer? If the mechanic bought all the cars, then of course the car company makes cars for the mechanic.

Get a 3/8 fucking pleb

Because that costs too much to manufacture, And most people re-lease or sell their cars before anything goes wrong. Cars are almost the same as cell phones at this point.

Go buy a $200k commercial truck if you want something easy to service and built to last.

That straight truck aint no 200k

Some do, Toyota especially.
The German engineers are sadists though.
