What used to be bad with it was awful railroading bullshit almost every step of the way and a lack of variety in weapons/armor

Now it's just bad variety in weapons/armor. I get that it's "historically accurate" and it does a lot of other cool shit to make up for it, but it still sucks.

VC is actually pretty good now, coming from someone who thinks that vikings are overblown meme tier and that early medieval bri'ain is the most boring imaginable setting in the entirety of europe

The only things it lacks is unit diversity
