IIRC the Germans found that the Lavochkin radials had a lot of issues with pilot workload, especially compared to the Fw 190. They ran trials with a captured La-5 alongside an Fw 190 and found things like going to full power required like 7 different switches to be hit in exactly the right order for the La-5, while the BMW 801 on the Fw 190 allowed you to just push the throttle forward.
