Is Frostbyte a bad engine, or are Bioware bad developers?
I haven't played the other Frostbyte games, so I can't tell about the first proposition, but animations used to be tighter in past games.

Frostbite is a fantastic engine if you know what you're doing with it, look at the animation, graphics, and performance of Battlefield 1 and Battlefront. While Battlefront especially is rather bad gameplay wise they excelled in these aspects more than a majority of vidya out there.
Bioware doesn't really know what they're doing with Frostbite and it shows.

I think you can customize both characters regardless of who you end up picking, just like in Fallout 4. Your father is confirmed to resemble both of you, actually also very similar to Fallout 4 with Shaun/"Father"

I think that's where they got the idea from. This thing became popular, Dishonored 2 also had it this way that both selectable characters are "in the story" anyway, though in both cases they ended up dead or as DiD.

I hope it isn't like Dishonored 2 where the character you don't pick is a vegetable for the entirety of the game

Dishonored did this so you can be a real dick and keep them trapped in stone but Bioware won't kill off Sara/Scott because they probably think having them alive at the same time is the coolest shit

beginning of their game the sibling you don't pick has their pod thrown around the room when the grav turns off and is damaged, keeping them out of the action and on the Hyperion/Nexus until the Kett have enough of your shit

apparently you CANNOT modify anything related to your team. no alternative costumes or even weapons. I'm not sure about this next point, but apparently you cannot tell them to use a specific power, only "prime" or "detonate" or a more general attack. it feels like a core aspect of gameplay has been removed or reduced to the point of redundancy.

Insanity is a nice challenge where enemies die at a decent rate and hit fairly hard forcing you to make good use of cover and you and your squads ability, anything else just consists of you shooting 3 bullets at everything and instakilling it.

So, just hiding behind a barrel for more than normal time, because the enemies have more health in other words, bullet sponge?

there've already been articles making specific mention of just how bullet-spongey enemies are on even the lowest difficulty levels.
