Oh well.

After the NL update in November, I got curious if the usual 20%-25% chance for a camper to show up has been increased or decreased.
I started doing resets whenever I had 9 villagers. Sometimes I'd keep daily tabs if a camper showed up or not.
I know most of you already have your dream villagers or use cards to acquire them easily. I did this research out of curiosity.

Here are the results so far. I'll still keep track of this data to refine the accuracy of the % chance for a villager to show up:

I took a total of 105 campsite checks thus far. It's not enough to estimate the exact chance, but it should give a rough estimate with a margin of error ~5%.

Pic related, it's the notepad I keep track of all this. I listed in sets of 10 checks (marked with roman numbers) where each set has its own % chance attached. Then I wrote for each month the final chance for a villager to show up. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong with any of those numbers.

Currently the chance for a villager to show up in your campsite is 25/105, or 5/21 (23.8%).
The chance that I speculate to be is 1/4 (25%). The true exact chance is between 20% and 25% (because random number generators aren't perfect).

In conclusion, nothing seems to have changed since the update.

Unrelated to what I mentioned above, I'm looking for the following items:
>Kitchen Sink, Kitchen Corner. Refrigerator
>3DSs from RVs except Mabel and HHD (unfortunately I don't have many tickets to use)
Can offer bells, bushes, trees and items I may have in my catalog. For the 3DSs can offer in addition some fortune cookie tickets, unfortunately nothing above #50.

Quick question, is it worth getting the 3ds just for this game at this current time? Always had an interest in the series but only recently started to consider getting it.

It really depends on if you like AC or not. Since you've never played it, I'd recommend emulating with AC:Gamecube or Wild World to see if it appeals to you. If you like it, maybe it's worth it.
They are both easy to emulate. City Folk may leave a bad taste in your mouth if you try that first.

let me put it this way: I pirated my 3ds to play it and ended up spending around $150 in amiibo cards and don't feel bad at all. comfyness+replayability are good on my book.

I've been watching the games on youtube, streams, etc. Have tried emulating City Folk, which I did enjoy, and currently have Wild World on my phone and I am having fun with it, just despise the controls due to the small screen. So, overall, I belive it's my type of game, my main concern is if they stop supporting the 3ds now that the switch is out.

I don't think you need to worry about that. If anything they would end WiiU internet support before 3DS. While the Switch is also a psuedo-handheld, the 3DS has an absolutely enormous consumer base, and Nintendo would be pretty damn silly to try to end support for its financial safetynet right now. Especially if the alternative is expensive, has few games currently, and has paid internet.
Plus as said, New Leaf got a giant update a few months ago so dropped support is unlikely.

they're compatible with a wii u game, but theres two of those minigames included in new leaf, also support the cards. It's a typical Nintendo collectible toy scam but i like to collect them so i guess i fell for that one.

-they help with an in game currency for new furniture pieces
-also they can be used in happy home designer, another AC game, but that's if you got that one too.
