Daydream Warrior has already hit 1 million views. To my knowledge, this makes it the first Aqours song that is not an Animated Single Preview to past the 1 million view count mark on Youtube (Saint Snow's Self-Control accomplished the same feat earlier), and makes Daydream Warrior the single most viewed Aqours songs outside of the three Singles. This feat was accomplished in just over three months. What is more remarkable is that Daydream Warrior is a BD song that has not featured within the anime.
As of the date of posting, these are the highest viewed songs in the Love Live Sunshine discography on Youtube:
Kimi no Kokoro wa Kagayaiteru kai? - 3.77 Million Views
Aquarium - 3.49 Million Views
Happy Party Train - 1.236 Million Views
Self Control - 1.08 Million Views
Daydream Warrior - 1.001 Million Views
View Count can be a good indicator of a song's popularity, even though some songs got nuked. For BD songs, all of them do not have PV which is a huge boaster for view count, nor does the release time matter that much. So we can more or less rank the popularity. (Indeed, based on this measurement, DW is the most popular BD songs)
And what does that tell?
>Does it mean EDM is actually pretty popular, even more popular than a traditional Idol song?
>If it is true, will Lantis notice that phenomenon (which also includes GK style songs)?
>If it does notice, will it do any adjustment on music style because of that?
Of course we cannot know for sure: many factors involve in. (Composition of view counts, importance of BD song, market tradition, etc.)
And as an ordinary fan, the only real thing I can do is to trust Lantis as an (efficient, ambitious, skillful) Music company and comment none on the grand strategy.
However, I would still like to make a guess: EDM, so as other non-traditional idol songs, could be the future.
