This is a new thread

Sure, why not?

>People drag their knees without even using all of their tyres, it is like the only reason they do it is specifically to "drag knee" its not even helping them corner faster...
Yeah I know but I just want that really exciting feeling of literally contacting the ground at high speed. I've done it on a supermoto and it's fun whether it is helpful or not.

And I'm not contorting myself to dip my knee below the pegs just to drag knee or anything. I think my form is OK but haven't had a third person opinion or perspective to judge. I've just been trying to pick up the pace little by little until I can touch my knee down. It just hurts to know I'm not fast enough to do so.

try going around even a slight bend at 150+km/h instead of trying to drag knee below 80kmh, you pretty much have to around fast corners,

who /adv/ here?

GP riders touch their knee down way before they get to the edge of the tire, I was listening to something last night that was basically "on a modern tires if your knee is just touching down it means you can still lean further"

...

that picture shows riders at the start of a fast turn where they will be leaning much further within less than a second.
I am talking about people sticking their knee out like in pic

Your point is moot.

Hola
How's the fireblade

Thinking about buying an xr250r to turn into a purely desert bike that will be used in eastern oregon. Probably going to slap an acerbis monster tank on it and do some other select mods. This one looks nice but it's a '97 and its fucking $3200. Should I go for the kill and lowball him? If I get no response I'll probably find myself an older one.
roseburg.craigslist.org/mcy/6140901251.html

Here bby

Not necessarily older actually, probably just different.
Also I know bike pictured looks newer than a 97, apparently he did some weird shit and put a seat, plastics and replaced the old busted fuel tank with one from a 2000 i believe. Seems like a waste of money but maybe that's why he priced it so high lmao

an xr250 is going to be a gutless piece of shit as a desert bike.
even a 400 is going to struggle in the sand, you want an xr650r at least or suffer the high maintenance of a crf450, sand is just hard on bikes.

You would likely be stuck in 4th gear with a top speed of around 60kmh in sand on an ex250, not trying to be mean or put the bikes down or anything they are great little bush hacks just useless in a desert.

>Implying this pigfat touring bike can do anything off-road
Pshhhh

You guys think this hose is alright?

No, it looks completely fucked.
Probably going to have to sell it and buy a new bike.

But seriously its torn on the left side you can even see it in that picture, it needs to be replaced.

Holy fucking shit, I just popped my cherry and finally drove on a public road. I made it entire block to the gas station on the corner, filled up, and got back to my place without dying or fucking up in truly spectacular fashion (shifted into neutral once, but recovered). That was the most terrifying experience of my life.

/blog

Why you so mad though

>implying a pigfat touring bike can't go off-road
Pshhhh

street rossi trying to drag knee when street rossi doesn't even know how to ride a bike annoys me.

Gives us all a bad name.

>Implying anything can't go off-road
Pshhhh

But for real this trail was cool, I'm getting a dr650 tomorrow so I can come back and do the rest of it on a capable bike

No
And dude clean that shit up wtf do you even take care of it?

I generally try to avoid getting too hektik around the really wide, fast corners due to fear of losing everything I have if a cop catches me doing 90+mph and the fear of really fucking myself up if I crash.
I've been riding a road frequently with a 55mph speed limit but most of the corners have a recommended speed of 20-35mph. I usually hit them at 50-75mph.

In my autistic quest I mounted the camera facing myself to see how I was doing. It's hard to tell how far away I am from this camera angle. At least you can see I'm not jamming it down as low as possible like right?

To be honest if it isnt pissing down rain you can take a road bike most places you can take a dirt bike, pic related

Yeah I know what you mean, but the Oregon high desert isn't really very sandy. It's a lot of rolling "plains" with sage brush pretty much everywhere. My little brother rides a TRX90X 4 wheeler (he doesn't like 2 wheels, bless his soul) and on that thing you can be wide open all the time and go pretty fast even with my lard ass on it. I don't need a 400 anyway as I currently ride an xr200r out in the desert and have a couple other poop looking beaters for more inland riding and I just want something with not shit suspension. I've been looking at crf230f's but they only hold 1.9 gallons in the tank and with an xr you can get up to like 7 or something insane.

It was pissing down rain
I couldn't keep the rear tire under me lol, we have very small particle clay here instead of dust, so it's super slick

Say that to my face and see what happens

i ride a modified 300exc that only weighs 105kg with a full tank of fuel while pushing out near 60bhp and even that struggles in sand unless you rev the ever living shit out of it just for perspective.
sand is just a cunt, you really need that bottom end power because you need to be in a higher gear to begin with.

650's are really nice for sand riding, even the dr650 is a nice bike for cruising around the deserts because it just has dem bottom end torques and really with sand riding weight is not an issue, if anything weight only makes the bike more stable.

Yay

I can understand excitement but terrifying? Dont be pussi mang

my owner's manual says use kawasaki 10w-40 4stroke oil

can i just use any 10w-40 oil off the shelf?

>baby's first oil change

Sup, son.

where i live is mainly white sand so you can get through that on the road bike no worries even when it is wet, it is only the red clay that is a problem that shit is like well wet clay...
even the dirt bike struggles on that shit.

I think knee dragging comes naturally. Just keep riding your bike and the more comfortable you get with it, the faster you'll take corners and eventually drag knee

Sure

Just make sure its made for motorcycles otherwise yea go for it

I use motul 10w-40 (different types for different bikes of course) but people on dbt will probably tell you spending $100/gallon on oil is a waste of money.

I don't need 4 stroke oil?

Try getting comfortable in the upright position first, get comfortable with scraping your pegs around a corner WITHOUT leaning in with the bike, these will obviously be on slow speed corners and only around corners you know your limits on but after finding that limit while completely upright leaning further into the corner while going faster will become much more natural.

This is exactly how people like schaaf became decent riders.

as long as its motorcycle oil

What if you're on an R6 and the pegs are decently high up?

>R: 43
>P: 19
Samefags

?
do you know what 2 stroke oil is?
because it is literally gear box oil and then the oil you use for fuel is kinda the most expensive oil available...

who

the pegs aren't so high up that you are losing traction on the tyre, they will scrape before you drop the bike unless the road conditions are poor in which case you should have gone to a track instead of pushing limits in unknown conditions.

I just bought this should I return it or use it in my ninja?

Jesus youre retarded

youtube.com/watch?v=_Yr5dJVz-To

Naw that's totally fine
No u

Are you literally retarded?
this is a general on Veeky Forums not a porn dump on /b/ fuck off.

does it say for use with motorcycles?

the reason being is that car oil has lots of friction modifiers that make the oil extra slippery, but because of that motorcycles with wet clutches cant use it, because your clutch is bathed in the oil and if the oil is too slippery your clutch wont work

Where does one begin when considering to gimp out and tune their bike engine???

whats the biggest meme street bike?

Castrol gtx oil is fine assuming it is not a high powered/high revving sports bike.

It is actually probably one of the best oil choices for your typical motorcycle engine. (low revving being under 10,000RPM red line)

Do y'all just bite hooks you see floating around?

r3

Dont listen to these idiots. Your clutch will not work properly with car oils.
You can either use motorcycle oil, or MOST bikes are fine with a diesel oil of the correct weight (like rotella). but then again some arent. Mine did not like it at all.

Who

Honestly i don't know what is more effective, ignoring it or biting the bait and making them think they actually pissed someone off but neither really helps anything.

The one you're riding.
>and anything KKK touches.

no it doesn't say for motorcycles.
its just basic 10w-40 oil
its for a ninja 300 i just bought a day ago
I can easily return it and get pure motorcycle oil no prob.

gs500 cb500 really anything under 600cc

You mean anything under 1000cc?

should be fine. not like its a high revving enging, i know i wouldnt bother putting something like pic related in it that shits expensive.

check to make sure it doesn't have the high efficiency friction modifiers, they are what makes your clutch slip

I'm not sure I'd know the difference. I'm a 35yo cis white male accountant who has never done anything more exciting than changing to a new brand of toilet paper.

I have one specific concern... Before I went on my grand adventure, I did some brake testing since I had to reset the adjusters. The lever movements are in spec. The rear brake locks up tight as a drum (and leaves nice skids that I hope I don't have to explain to the bldr manager). But I'm not sure if the front wheel was locking up or not, as it left no skid. The brakes felt fine on the road. Is this anything I should be concerned with, or is it possibly just because of the new tires? If so, how long should I let them break in before I get concerned?

>1000cc
kek listne faggot anything over 900cc just gets 2 fat 2 go fast its called germany faggot read up

thanks for all the replies, but im just gonna go get this tomorrow and not have to worry about anything

you should not be locking the rear wheel when braking m8, that is asking for a highside.

if you want good oil get the one in pic thats pretty much the best all rounder available on the market.

motul in general is just good oil.

>riding along minding my own business
>some college kids in a beat up jeep are throwing hand signs at me
>oh they want me to wheelie
>well I guess I can do that
>front end up
>they swerve the fucking jeep at me, trying to scare me
>follow them for about 20 minutes
>dude in the driver seat is still smiling
>everyone else looks scared
I don't think they were all in on that
>dude finally pulls over in a gas station
>pull up behind him and get off the bike
>douche peels away and hits a garbage can on his way out.
Was ready to throw hands but I think this guy will get himself killed on his own soon enough
But I had to sit in the gas station for a minute trying to figure out what the fuck is wrong with that kid.

scraping pegs on a CB500 is a lot different from scraping pegs without feelers on a supersport

It was intentional, I've always been under the impression that if you're brake system couldn't lock up the wheel, something was wrong.

Buying a new bike in the next few months and i'm torn between an FZ-09 or an 821 Hypermotard. i can't find any decent comparison videos online. Please help!

do you want to ride or wrench?

>ride
yamaha

>wrench
ducati

well i am telling you your brakes are more than capable of locking up the wheels and doing so is going to make you crash.

>Troy Corser teaches how to sit on a bike
>literally the opposite of every performance riding book or article I've read
I feel like nobody actually knows what they're doing

If you can't lock the rear brake something is very wrong. Like, you have no rear brake very wrong.

yeah if you squeezed the lever all the way in and nothing happened that's not a good sign.
You really don't want to lock up your front wheel though. Doing so will make you fall.

Post your cool/expensive motorcycle that you paid cash money for

Congrats user that looks pretty nice

That sounds messi
Pic related, paid cash. Didnt buy new and expensive because im actually good with my money thanks

Not gonna lie, the non-boxer GS (twin and single) still gives me wood.

even my car is worth more than that shit heap and my car is literally just a trailer with wheels for transporting my dirt bikes.

>abs
Are you the 5' tall guy?

>jelly that my ninja is faster than his trailer
Whew
