So just curious, did any other actual shut-ins who played P5 find Futaba's whole character arc to be kind of condescending? The whole idea that they had to reintegrate her into society and shit was really obnoxious. They treated her like some kind of mental patient or something. At the start I had a dialogue choice to say "she's fine like she is" and everyone was all "no way man" and we went ahead and started trying to change her.

No. You just need the required stats. Level 2 knowledge, dex and guts for rank 1. Level 3 for rank 2, level 4 for rank 3
