It's been a while since I've play ck2 but you can only raid provinces that are next to yours as a tribal nation, and unless you are norse or berber you cannot use boats to raid.

Not him, but colonization in general with the +3 dev for colonized provinces during the age of exploration is pretty neat.
Makes me wanna play a colonial game, thinking about colonizing eastern america as portugal, get their two splendor things for colonization.
Then when the age of exploration is over I'd play as the colonial nation and later on form the usa.

Maybe cheeze it real bad and have france blob over Louisiana first and then form the USA for the 1000 ducat purchase event.
