And yet an LS is the objectively superior option. Not only is it easier to maintain, it also has endless possibilities for building it to whatever power level you want, or however far your budget allows.
It's also lighter than the stock iron boat anchor and sounds infinitely better.

It's called time and money. Building an engine puts the car out of the driving equation for MONTHS and often takes the help of a machine shop. A swap can be done in an afternoon if you know what you're doing and are recreating someone else's work.

What kinda ls do you think? I know they're numbered, but not sure what the numbers mean aside from the newer vs older. I'd aim for 300hp, car weighs roughly 3k lbs atm, AC comp removed and it's at nearly a 50/50 distribution ratio

Depends on the car and the ls engine, but it means bigger tires, bigger brakes, and a different suspension at the very least, possibly new steering rack, axle and gutting the wheel arches to fit the bigger tires and still turn, potentially a full cage and a stereo that is loud enough to drown that fucker out with catbacks if you make a monster. There is more power, and then there is more power than the car was ever meant to handle. YMMV

an LS1 makes ~325hp stock and would be the cheapest, unless you could find a 4.8 from a wrecked pickup or something (~280ish IIRC, can easily go higher with basic bolt-ons)

the 2JZGTE can be found cheaper and will make 4-500hp from an exhaust an boost controller and can take 700whp bone stock without issue as long as its tuned properly
