CD is everywhere, 1 and 2 are mobile only cause there was an exclusivity deal with Nintendo that would be contradicted otherwise. 3&K has legal troubles with the music, so it's a no go, but there was a proof of concept.

Forgot to mention what else make them so special, they are HD remakes from the ground up with 16:9 or whatever support. They use the Retro Engine to recreate the physics of the old days, and it's thought to be accurate.

Yeah I just checked out Sonic Nexus too, it's amazing, and I heard they're working for Mania now, so that's awesome.
I like what Sonic could be. It's annoying that this is never really realized, but there's enough there to keep me holding out in some vain delusional hope that they'll get it right some day.

Mostly the physics. The main problem is that they think of classic Sonic as how it looks or sounds instead of how it feels to play it.

Why are so many devs bad at in engine animations?
This. It's the main reason why I think Lost World is one of the worst games in the series. They think they can just slap green strips and brown checkers on whatever they please and call it "classic" while at the same time spitting in the face of what actually put Sonic on the map in the first place: his pinball-like physics.

What the fuck is stopping Sega from making a full 3D Boost Formula Sonic game? All the ones so far have had certain gimmicks in the way.
Sega are willing to take huge gambles like Lost World and Boom, but a game featuring a polished and beloved gameplay style without a crutch? Get the fuck out of here.

Lost World was itself an attempt to move away from the boost formula and we saw how that worked.
The core problem is that the people in charge of Sonic Team are all incompetent. Nothing's going to be solved until that's fixed.
Pretty much. The problem is their design philosophy. They added things to move away from the boost formula in LW but designed the levels like they were making a boost game. Only with more shitty gimmicks sprinkled on top.
