Seeing your supposedly-fiendish foes slowly slide around the terrain, and off the map entirely, could be fun for a laugh at first.
But then you realize the scripting of the encounter is broken beyond repair, and your disciples are perpetually locked in endless battle against nonexistent enemies. Whoops.

Still have zero idea what causes it, but I've only ever ran happened across the incident after progressing through a considerable portion of the Main Story quest leading up to that point in one sitting.

I think it has to do with how many enemies you kill before talking to Bunah. I had that happen after running in to help Bunyang and only realizing after I'd forgotten to talk to Bunah.

What is "breakthrough material" and "offering"? For example, I have Stalker Sword and Bamboo Guard Sword I got from the quests that are breakthrough or offering. Do I need them later on to unlock my endgame weapon or something, or can I just salvage them? I read something about feeding breakthrough weapons to your Ivory something to make them stronger (endgame weapon).

Offerings just give weapons and accessories (depending on offering type) progress on their exp bars. Breakthrough Materials are items needed to turn a weapon or accessory into a completely new form of it. Leveling up vs Evolving

They removed most of that from the early game and evolution materials are provided through the story when you actually get the ivorymoon weapon. You don't need to hold on to low level stuff.

You dont use them to upgrade anymore
Just salvage whatever doesn't give you the most AP while leveling.
