I think you'll still enjoy the different gameplay mechanic, the music, levels and special zones though.

To be fair, the story isn't all that kiddie outside of Sonic continually yabbering about teamwork. My frustration lies more in the poor writing in other aspects (Rouge picking a fight with the extremely passive Chaotix just to be a dick, and then oh wow who would have guessed it was Metal Sonic), but not too bad otherwise.

So as we hit the halfway mark between 700 and 800, I couldn't help but be annoyed with how depressing and negative things have been in the general. I went back to thread 700 in the archives to try to figure out what made that thread so memorable and fun.
And then I realized: that thread was a meme thread. It was Eggman/Robotnik General. We were just having fun praising the doctor and meming about the master plan.
Then it hit me. We need to make 800 character-oriented again.

I don't know what it is, but something about the Special Stage music in Sonic 1 always sounded incredibly melancholy to me. It just sounds like something you'd hear at a funeral, or some kind of old, broken down carousel. I really love it.
